NEW ALBUM FROM THE DIAMOND FAMILY ARCHIVE

The long awaited new Woodland Recordings album by Laurence Collyer'sThe Diamond Family Archive is done and dusted and will be on sale online tomorrow.

'The Wanderer' (WR024) is a collection of 12 classic songs by the likes of Dire Straits, John Lee Hooker, Eddie Cochran, Sam Cooke, Billy Joel, and more. It's a good list, they're all there...

    01. Down At The Landing People - John Lee Hooker (3.36)
    02. Dark Lonely Street - Eddie Cochran (2.37)
    03. A Change Is Gonna Come - Sam Cooke (5.34)
    04. Runaround Sue - Ernie Maresca and Dion DiMucci (3.20)
    05. The Wanderer - Ernie Maresca and Dion DiMucci (3.02)
    06. Telegram Sam - Marc Bolan (3.46)
    07. She's Always A Woman - Billy Joel (5.41)
    08. Good Morning Little Schoolgirl - Sonny Boy Williamson (3.36)
    09. Take It Easy - Jackson Browne and Glenn Frey, recorded by The Eagles (4.04)
    10. Romeo And Juliet - Mark Knopfler (4.42)
    11. Lord Franklin - Traditional, lyrics possibly by Jane Griffin (Lady Franklin) (4.44)
    12. Spirit In The Sky - Norman Greenbaum (4.15)

Laurence recorded these songs solo over the last year - for the most part they mark a departure from his previous releases and performances in that they are acoustic, simple renditions of other people's songs. Long-loved songs were picked, lyrics printed out and new music written for each.

You can hear 'Romeo and Juliet' on our Myspace page now here:

Our release neatly coincides with his latest work 'Greetings From Puggyland'. Details for this and Tobi's other things can be found here:

Thu 21 May – Ariel Pink, Gangalai & Gourabai

TocarThe People I'm Not, TocarHigher and Higher, Doggone (Shegone) et même TocarHardcore Pops Are Fun sont de cette veine.

SETLIST: Flashback - Trepanated Earth - Trespian City - Higher & Higher - Beefbud - Can't Hear My Eyes - Baby Comes Around - Shegone Doggone - Fot Kate I Wait - People I'm Not - Among Dreams - Hardcore Pops Are Fun - Phantasthma - B.L.B.S :-: encore 1: Jack Off - Are You Gonna Look After My Boys? - encore 2: Rama Ya.

  • Eclectic Score

Take your top 20 artists. For each of these artists, collect the top 5 similar artists. The resulting number of unique artists is your eclectic score. If the score is small (extreme = 5) your musical preferences are very limited, and if it is large (larger than 80, extreme = 100), then you have an eclectic musical preference. • Lube or Custard? Misleading Titles 101

    Abr 6 2009, 0h19 por arrell

This meme and journal entry will most likely be deleted after a period.

Hmm, I'll go with artists from my last three months. Australian spelling edition.

    1. How did you get into 29?
    Patsy Cline
Most likely after hearing Willy Nelson's (who composed the song) cover of TocarCrazy on the soundtrack to Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. However, I'm semi-certain that I was aware of Cline's reputation prior to that occurrence.

    2. What was the first song you ever heard by 22?
    Nightwish
First track off Oceanborn, TocarStargazers. Album was recommended to me by WylieIsBalls, so cheers to him. It's a great album, solid all around, had not heard anything like it before (closest probably being early Children of Bodom).

    3. How many albums by 13 do you own?
    The Smiths
Let's say two. The Smiths and Meat Is Murder.

    4. What is your favourite song by 5?
    Rancid
Time Bomb. I remember first seeing it on Rage (an Australian music video show), and thinking: "Well, there's an interesting band and song".

    5. What is your favourite song by 15?
    Immortal
Mmm, tough. Probably Withstand the Fall of Time, so epic, such a great opening.

    6. Is there a song by 6 that makes you happy?
    My Chemical Romance
Anything with a strong, catchy melody makes me happy. Strongest at the moment is This Is How I Disappear.

    7. What is your favourite song by 10?
    Sergei Rachmaninoff
Not particularly familiar with Rachmaninoff's catalogue. From what I've heard, Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor, Op. 18: I. Moderato is great, and popular across the board.

    8. What is a good memory you have involving 30?
    Tracy Chapman
Back when I was listening to Gold 104.3 FM ("Good Times and Great Classic Hits") a lot, Chapman's Fast Car would be played every three hours. Just absorbing the experience and investing myself into the song were sweet moments. In particular, I marvelled at the simple contrast between verse and chorus, where the drum beat would kick in and you could headbang for a while.

    9. Is there a song by 19 that makes you happy?
    Nasum
I approach Shift in whole. Heck, the songs are all one to two minutes long, so that's probably the case for most people. They're all furious and brutal, I love it.

    10. How many times have you seen 26 live?
    Rickie Lee Jones
    Zip. Would love to though.

    11. What is the first song you ever heard by 23?
    The Beach Boys
Most likely TocarGood Vibrations or TocarWouldn't It Be Nice or TocarSurfin' U.S.A.

    12. What is your favourite album by 11?
    Antony and the Johnsons
Have only heard I Am a Bird Now, and it is awesome.

    13. Who is your favourite member of 1?
    Buddy Holly
    Not Buddy Holly.

    14. Have you ever seen 14 live?
    Tears for Fears
Nope. Certainly wouldn't mind doing so.

    15. What is a good memory involving 27?
    Judy Garland
Watched 'The Wizard of Oz' a gazillion times as a youngster. I think I might still have it on video... Watched 'Meet Me in St. Louis' a short while ago, and that was very fun viewing. Garland was gorgeous in that.

    16. What is your favourite song by 16?
    Hank Williams
Gah, all his songs sound the same, and still they're all pretty great.

    17. What is your favourite album by 18?
    All That Remains
Have only heard The Fall of Ideals. Makes for awesome listening.

    18. What is your favourite song by 21?
    Secret Chiefs 3
    Probably TocarWhite As They Come.

    19. What is the first song you ever heard by 25?
    Tenacious D
TocarTribute. Got to #4 on the singles charts here. I was certainly caught up in the frenzy, having bought the single.

    20. What is your favourite album by 2?
    The Four Seasons
Don't have one. Got myself a compilation of their singles.

    21. What is you favourite song by 3?
    Mercyful Fate
TocarEvil. Easy choice. "I was born on the cemetery... "

    22. What is you favourite song by 8?
    Satyricon
Now, Diabolical off Now, Diabolical. Love the simple textures and structures.

    23. How many times have you seen 17 live?
    Eddie Cochran
Gah, this meme is targeted at people who listen to recent music.

    24. What is the worst song by 12?
    Ghostface Killah
Mmm... I'll just say that I struggled with Ironman.

    25. What was the first song you ever heard by 28?
    Culture Club
Either TocarKarma Chameleon or TocarDo You Really Want To Hurt Me.

    26. What is you favourite album by 7?
    As I Lay Dying
Have only heard An Ocean Between Us. Awesome.

    27. What is your favourite song by 24?
    Bernard Herrmann
TocarMain title of Taxi Driver fosho. Sends tingles down my spine. Trivia: I can't find my Taxi Driver DVD. One would have assumed that it'd be in its case, but no.

    28. Is there a song by 9 that makes you happy?
    Death
Lack of Comprehension. So many things about it make me feel good, enough to make me touch myself.

    29. What is your favourite album by 4?
    Céline Dion
Again and again, I've only heard the one album from her, D'elles. Again and again, it is very, very good.

    30. How many albums by 20 do you own?
    Scissor Sisters
    Two, Scissor Sisters and Ta-dah.

Fark, these questions were so dull. I really should have inspected them closer beforehand.

If the above was a totally worthless experience to you, here are some of my favourite youtube videos.
