Dead Pilot Records
Claus Haxholm is one of those multi-talented electronic musicians who has more aliases than the number of artists on an average independent record label. When he makes music under the moniker The Doom Riot, he delivers a smooth kind of drone that stretches slowly over long tracks. Dominated by the likes of Sunn O))) and its mastermind Stephen O'Malley, the genre has been losing momentum for a few years as originality is harder to come by. Then again, how is one supposed to sound original when faced with the minimalist, stagnant nature of drone music? Slow Estate Dreams might be the beginning of an answer to that question.
Haxholm took a very personal approach to making this record, breaking a few rules on the way. …

Somber Atlantic Records
downtempo and shoegaze are genres that are known for the emotion they convey. While most of the material emanating from the former carries a positive, almost erotic feeling, the latter is often riddled with depression and isolation. The combination of such sensations creates a feeling that many long for – a bittersweet wistfulness; a calm, somehow comforting nostalgia. John Argetsinger, the artist behind The Scarecrow Frequency, describes this sensibility through his words, pictures, and music. Somber Atlantic, his first effort, is a journey within his state of mind.
Somber Atlantic is composed of 13 short tracks, and although there is no actual link between them, it is an album to be played as a whole, as the brevity of each song conflicts with the long lasting nature of the emotions Argetsinger channels through his music…

Jan 12 2006, 19h24 por eltonitoI was just clicking on some of my top artists to see where I fit in as a "fan." What I found was a glaring hole in the "similar artists" system.
It turns out that I am the number one fan of Plexi, a defunct LA band that would best be described as studio polished, effect-laden alternative rock. They fell through the cracks because no one knew how to market them. They were too weird to be popular, sounded too polished to be alternative and looked goth as hell. Sound-wise, they might be comparable to ....And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead.
Here are their top 5 "similar artists":
Flat Duo Jets
Something is wrong with that. New Brutalism is a loose "maybe", but the next four aren't remotely similar. Impala is more or less a surf band. Dexter Romweber is in the Flat Duo Jets, who are a rockabilly band. Satan's Cheerleaders are a lo-fi surf/psychobilly band. …
