I remember writing some time ago about an album cover that was particularly apt. These are the flipside. Not horrible, necessarily, not laughable, nor even bad, just wrong in some way for the music contained within.
Molly Hatchet - Molly Hatchet
The artwork by Frank Frazetta is a sword and sorcery classic, but somebody forgot to tell Danny Joe Brown and the rest of them about the equivalencies between fantasy art and metal.
This would have been great as a Cirith Ungol cover, or for some other band with a name jacked from Tolkien, like Gorgoroth, or Amon Amarth. But for a Southern rock band whose best song is called "Gator Country?"
Not so much.
Boston - Don't Look Back
Abr 7 2009, 17h51 por yeoldstinkeyeThis list is still in the works people. It is in no way finished and more Bands will be added from many different countries from the late 60's and early to mid 70's.
http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o214/yeoldstinkeye/1968ChevyVan.jpgJPT Scare Band- Sleeping Sickness JPT Scare Band has been blazing psychedelic trails for quite some time now. Over the years and decades they have managed to progress from totally unknown to painfully obscure. In spite of all that… they are still together, with the original lineup intact. Still making meaningful music in the 21st century, this veteran group of jammers is also proud of their vast legacy of classic twisted insanity recorded back in olden analogue times.
Black Sabbath- Black Sabbath Black Sabbath is an English heavy metal band from Birmingham, originally comprising Ozzy Osbourne (vocals), Tony Iommi (guitar), Geezer Butler (bass), and Bill Ward (drums). In the early ’70s they were the first to pair heavily distorted, sonically dissonant blues-rock.
Jan 6 2009, 13h36 por Milkshake8Long Beach, Calif. -- Scientists have dramatically revised the Mass of The Milky Way, saying our home galaxy is half again as heavy as previously thought.
the milky way is now on par with the nearby Andromeda Galaxy in terms of heft. The Milky Way spins a lot faster than was thought, too.
Astronomers arrived at the new mass by using the National Science Foundation's Very Long Baseline Array (vlba) radio telescope to make detailed images of the galaxy's structure, measuring distances and motions of different areas of the Milky Way.
These high-precision measurements, presented here today at the 213th meeting of the American Astronomical Society, indicate that the galaxy's speed at the position of our solar system (at a distance of 28,000 light-years from the galactic center) is about 600,000 mph (970,000 kph) to 100,000 mph (160,000 kph) faster than previously thought.

Revelling in tension, despair, and dread, Doom Metal prizes atmosphere more than many of Metals other primary subgenres. Doom uses plodding tempos, repeated chords, and thick, distorted, down-tuned guitars to attempt to envelope the listener in a wash of desperate foreboding that can commonly last to the ten minute mark and beyond. Instruments generally keep to the standard guitar, bass, and drums, but it is not unusual to add keyboard passages and backdrops.
Doom vocals can be in any of the predominant Metal styles, but all share a determined attempt to invoke emotional hopelessness and mental anguish. This is further amplified by the lyrical themes of grief, depression, fear, resentment, and suffering that are hallmarks of the style.
The roots of Doom Metal are considered to have been planted in the early 70s work of Black Sabbath. In the early and mid-80s, European artists like Witchfinder General and Candlemass adopted the Doom sound as a full fledged genre unto itself…

In last month's discussion of proto metal with last month's One-Hit Wonder from Sir Lord Baltimore and the next day's selection from Dust, I brought up Blue Cheer, which got me to thinking about that band this time around. Hailing from San Francisco and playing raucous, loud blues rock, they're another of the worthy pioneers of heavy metal. They're one of the bands that will not go away forever. After splitting up in the early 70s, they were active for a good while at the end of the 80s and early 90s, and active again since the middle part of this decade. There have been several players moving through a revolving door at guitar and the drums over the years, working always with Dickie Peterson on bass and vocals.
