  • Friday nght - awsome

    Dez 19 2005, 11h02 por BlindPanic

Okay so on friday about 6 me and a group of people hopped onto a minibus to go see the Pogues at newcaslte arena!
It was fantastic, i've been looking forward to seeing the Dropkick Murphys since Leeds festival, as they were good then but didn't play a lot of the songs i wanted to hear. But my did they redeem themselves - totally fantastic, and then the Pogues!!!!
To be fair a lot of beer had been involved by the time they were on but they ruled! Really enjoyed myself.
I then went home went to a club fell asleep on one of the sofas there, and my 'friends' proceeded to balance pints on my and take photos, but that's another story...

  • All I Want for Christmas

    Dez 19 2005, 3h59 por taeryn

With any luck, I'll have these on christmas, or shortly thereafter.

    Flogging Molly
    - "Swagger"
    - "Drunken Lullabies"
I've needed these for a long time, but I can't seem to find them cheap anywhere.

    The Electrics
    - "Old, New, Borrowed, and Green"

    Dropkick Murphys
    - "Boys on the Docks"
    Would complete the discography.

    The Pogues
    - "Rum, Sodomy and the Lash"
Another impossible-to-find-dirt-cheap album. Almost to the point of paying retail for it :-P.

    Anti-Flag
    - "Die For Your Government"
    - "Their System Doesn't Work for You"

    Kinship
    - "Boneshaker"
I know this can be had for around $15 US plus shipping, but that's beyond my college-student budget. *sigh*

    Rancid
    - "...And Out Came the Wolves"
Classic album, that for some reason, I still don't own.

    Black 47
    - "Fire of Freedom"
    - "Green Suede Shoes"

    The Tossers
    - "Long Dim Road"

    Real McKenzies
    - "10,000 Shots"
    - self-titled
The s/t is evidently mega-rare these days (amazon sellers have it for $35!?!?). If I were to get both of these, it'd complete the discography.

    That'll do for a start.

  • 15,000 tracks

    Dez 6 2005, 11h59 por txg399

Today will mark the 15,000th track logged to my audioscrobbler account, covering the last 15 months of my musical habits.

Does it truely represent my tastes?
The top 6 artists (Oasis,The Mars Volta, Mastodon, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Blur and Metallica) in my list are without a doubt my favourite 6 artists, although I'm not sure about the order or that they will be this close this time next year - remeber that RHCP have a new album out in April which will undeniably give them a strong lead in my charts. Mastodon also have a new album out in the next 6 months. However, Oasis and Blur are not going to be releasing anything before 2007 at the earliest.

The Top 50 has also been skewed by who is touring. Before I go to a gig I listen to lots of the artist I am about to see, which would explain why out of the Top 20 in my list there are only 2 bands (plus Joy Division and The Beatles who don't count for obvious reasons) who I haven't seen in the last 12 months. Nightwish, The Dropkick Murphys would be unlikely to be in the Top 20 if it weren't for being skewed by a gig.

Misty's Big Adventure are another noteable anomaly. Whilst I love them, and their live performance is a sheer delight to be a part of, their recorded material doesn't warrent such a large number of plays. The reason for their extremely high number of plays is a joyfull splurge I went on after first seeing them in March having not heard of them before.

On the whole Last.FM has provided me with a pretty accurate log of my tastes. Of course, the key delight of this program is the discoveries I have made through reading the forums and seeign artist connections. Most noteable are Deathcab For Cutie, The Arcade Fire, Coheed and Cambria and Nile.

  • New KDE and 'rok! And some music, too, and rambling.

    Dez 3 2005, 11h35 por nikosai

Whee, just finished installing KDE 3.5 and 'rok 1.3.6. Both of them are amazing! All the new gizmos and improvements... anyway, I've extended my collection somewhat over the last few days... still a few albums I'd like to digitise, and I have to actually bother to set up my tags on this thing properly (I started on it, but I've only a handful so far).

I think I need to look at getting myself an iPod at some point, probably once there's some money freed up after tour next year (and having my violin repaired.. it sounds much, much better now). It'd be nice to be able to listen to my music without the 'noise' that comes from my CD player...

I found a heap of Dropkick Murphys stuff laying about, and I've been listening to that.. it is really a lot like Flogging Molly, but much, much more punk. I like it... it's just a bit loud for me sometimes (you can have it down at 5% volume and still hear it clearly some of the time).

I also picked up the Les Miserables 10th anniversary recording the other day, and its been well worth having. I'm awfully fond of TocarAt The End Of The Day and a few others... great old songs.
