  • Crónica Arch Enemy + Abigail Williams + Angelus Apatrida (01.12.2009)

    Dez 7 2009, 15h45 por _kam1kaze_

    Mar 1 Dic – Tyrants of Evil Tour

    Crónica disponible, con fotos, en rafabasa.com:

    Ante un gran número de gente que esperaba la actuación de los albaceteños como atractivo principal de la noche, algo que se notaba y mucho, salían los ANGELUS a las 20.30 de la tarde ante gran parte de lo que a posteriori sería la asistencia final y con la fuerza y agresividad que solo ellos abriendo con "Vomitive" pueden destilar, un inicio perfecto, con buen sonido, que abria la lata de lo que fue un soberano conciertazo, posiblemente de los mejores que yo les he visto, para celebrar además que era el primero de su era Century Media, algo por lo que nos dieron las gracias desde el comienzo explicitamente y también con lo que mejor saben hacer, tocar thrash.

    Ví a un "Polako" pletórico, tanto de voz como a nivel instrumental, así como a David y a Jose muy activos y haciendo headbanging' constantemente y a un Víctor Valera incisivo y perforante como siempre tras los bombos, una máquina engrasadísima para matar que no defrauda lo más mínimo y que se marcaron toda una lección de actitud sobre las tablas pasándose incluso un poco de su tiempo establecido, algo que tampoco parecía importar mucho a los chicos de Abigail Williams, que con unos 20/25 minutillos tuvieron más que suficiente. Su set además me gustó bastante por combinar muy bien temas de ambos discos, más incisivos, caso de la citada e inicial "Vomitive", "Corruption" o "Give Em' War", o temas igualmente agresivos pero con ese toque meládico y más actual que Guillermo supo darle en las voces, caso de un "In The Heart Of Nations" que me encantó o una "Versus The World" ya al final que le dio un toque extra con respecto a su versión en disco, un tema que gana mucho en directo. Para terminar, comentar que como en Lorca, descargaron un nuevo tema que pertenecerá a su nuevo disco, "Clockwork", y que lleva por título "Of Men And Tyrants" (o eso me pareció entenderle a Guillermo...), y que sonó brutal, rápida, acelerada y contundente, un muy buen aperitivo de lo que nos espera el año que viene.

    Unos Angelus Apatridacon muchisimas ganas de demostrar que nada es casualidad fue lo que vimos en la Heineken una vez más, una banda que lleva mucho tiempo mereciéndose más y que ojalá que ahora sea su momento, pues nadie lo merece más que ellos...

    Setlist Angelus Apatrida:

    * Vomitive
    * In The Heart Of Nations
    * Fuck You
    * Corruption
    * Of Men And Tyrants (nuevo tema)
    * Give Em' War
    * Energy
    * Versus The World
    * Thrash Attack

    Después, y tras un buen rato de montar su backline y muchas pruebas que al final sirvieron para más bien poco, tomaban el escenario los chicos de Abigail Williams, para ofrecernos un concierto muy muy corto que era exactamente lo que me esperaba, lo que en este caso no es nada positivo. Ellos tienen tan solo un disco de estudio en larga duración, el "In The Shadow Of A Thousand Suns", un gran disco de black metal sinfónico que no tiene mucho de 'core', como ellos mismos se denominan también (quizás en el primer EP...), y que es una referencia obligada para todos aquellos nostálgicos de los mejores Dimmu Borgir, y que claro, al ser un trabajo muy pero que muy ornamentado y con multitud de sampleado, efectos, etc, la representación en directo se hace difícil, por no decir imposible, y fue lo que les pasó a ellos, que se quedaron por el camino.

    Ellos se mantuvieron bastante fríos todo el tiempo, y no sonaron nada bien, sobre todo al principio, donde los teclados (samplers) no se escuchaban nada, lo que significa cargarse sus temas, donde estas partes son diría las más importantes. Luego la cosa mejoró aunque no demasiado, y al final estuvieron sobre el escenario unos 25 minutos en los que apenas si se dirigieron al público y en los que no dejaron más que indiferencia, una pena, pues en estudio es un grupo realmente interesante...

    Jorge del Amo

    Con motivo de la regrabación de viejas glorias de Arch Enemy con las voces de Angela Gossow en "The Root Of All Evil" teníamos la oportunidad de ver en la capital al icono de death metal sueco. No solo eso, si no que además, al ser una noche entre semana y sin problemas de horarios con la sala, íbamos a tener una noche más que intensa de PURE FUCKIN METAL (haciendo uso del logo de Arch Enemy).

    La noche la abrirían los patrios Angelus Apatrida con un nuevo contrato con Century Media bajo el brazo (merecido reconocimiento el que ha hecho la multinacional con la banda española, les deseo lo mejor) y dando caña de la buena con su más que interesante thrash. Luego les seguirían los americanos Abigail Williams que navegan en varias aguas pero cuya seña de identidad no deja de ser la brutalidad y fuerza.

    Quiero destacar un hecho peculiar. Hasta dos veces, apareció sobre el escenario un encargado del concierto, para hacernos llegar una peticion especial de Angela Gossow "por favor, ruega que no fuméis porque afecta a su voz y amenaza con que si no se cumple esa norma, no harín acto de presencia". Obviamente, las mofas, ironías y burlas inundan la sala de un país que por cultura le cuesta concebir el hecho de no fumar en lugares públicos cerrados. Más tarde retomaré este tema, ya que, a mi modo de ver, afectó la actuación.

    A las 22:45 hizo acto de presencia el cuarteto sueco (Michael, Chris, Sharlee y Daniel) mientras que el ángel de muerte se reservaba su primera aparición para el primer alarido de rabia de "Blood On Your Hands". Van a muerte desde el inicio, y muertos nos dejaran al final. Os lo aseguro. Sobrecogedora y sobrehumana la voz de Angela, me sorprendió verla tan pequeñita y frágil y tan brutalmente bestial, pura rabia y fuerza, creo que Arch Enemy y su front-woman, no son solo una cara bonita, es una de las mejores voces del género. Sin apenas dejarnos respiro siguen con la magistral "Revolutions Begins" y con tan sólo dos temas, podemos observar, que los hermanos Amott, actualmente, son una de las parejas más letales con las seis cuerdas, símbolo e icono de lo que deben ser unos crudos y afilados riffs del metal agresivo. Geniales. Brutales. Compenetrados. Letales.

    Le siguió "Ravenous" y "Rise Of The Tyrant" la sala, a esta alturas, está patas arriba, el foso es una locura y el ambiente va creciendo por momentos, aquello, no tardará en estallar. El sonido es perfecto, las guitarras nítidas, la batería sublime sin esconder guitarras y el bajo retumbante. Todo perfecto. Angela mortal de necesidad, sus gruñidos se camuflan y cobran protagonismo a gusto de interpretación.

    Las primeras palabras de la banda vienen con Angela para introducir "My Apocalypse" y posteriormente "Demonic Science", pero poco más nos diría la sueca. Sinceramente, unas de las cosas buenas de la banda, es que van total y absolutamente a degüello, no dejan respirar mucho entre tema y tema y las guitarras y batería no dan pausa al comienzo de los temas, característica general de la banda diciendo "esto es lo que vais a tener desde el comienzo PURE FUCKIN METAL".

    Como decía, la sala tenía que reventar en algún momento y lo hizo con "Dead Eyes See No Future" y tras ella, llega el momento de descanso para la garganta de Angela que debe rendir al 200% en cada concierto. Es el turno del solo de batería de Daniel Erlandsson, que se salió durante toda la actuación y el pobre fue el único que no descanso en ningún solo. Retomaron fuerzas con "I Will Live Again" y "Buring Me Angel", los temas antiguos parecen gozar de buen recibimiento, supongo que "The Root Of All Evil" tendrá gran parte de culpa, pero, siento, que todos esos partidarios de Johan Liiva se quedaron más que satisfechos con la actuación de la brutal Angela. Se marcaron otro de los grandes momentos de la noche con "Tacking Back My Soul" de su "Doomsday Machine" con unos registros rasgadísimos de Angela, pero de nuevo toca pausa y bajón con los solos de Chris y Michael, que, en su línea, son magistrales. Entre las notas de Michael asoma "Intermezzo Liberte" y al comienzo, Chris, hace un solo muy del estilo Gilbert. Tengo la vaga sensación de que Angela no puede más y algo me hace pensar que le queda poco a la cita metalera, se esconde demasiado para recuperarse y parece que su brutalidad va decreciendo. Sinceramente, desconozco si tengo razón o no, pero me da que el humo del tabaco con el que tanto rogó respeto Angela, la está haciendo forzar y agotarse antes de lo estipulado. Personalmente, no soy fumador y me parece una falta de respeto por varias razones, nos lo pide la cantante de la banda y si lo respetamos mejor para todos ya que ella rendirá mejor; y segundo, porque, lo queramos o no, hay una ley y en varios puntos de las sala hay carteles donde pone explícitamente que está prohibido fumar. Opinión personal de un servidor, lo siento.

    Antes de retirarse aún tenemos la suerte de gozar con "Dead Bury Their Dead" y "We Will Rise" reliquias de su pasado y grandes cañonazos a la sesera sonora. El paupérrimo bis se limita a "Nemesis". Algo me dice que tenían algo más pensado ya que su actuación estipulada en 90 minutos se vio recortada unos 15 minutos.

    Dejando de lado polémicas, duración o set list, creo que sin duda, acudimos a una de las veladas más brutales en lo que se refiere a metal en su vertiente más agresiva, concisa y rabiosa, con, a mi parecer, la mejor banda del momento en lo que se refiere a este género en su vertiente mas brutal. Ahora mismo, decir Arch Enemy es sinónimo de gritar PURE FUCKIN METAL.

  • I have a dream

    Nov 29 2009, 3h22 por The_Night_Head

    I have a dream that one day metal elitists will take their heads out their arses, and realise taste is purely subjective, such that "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all genres are created equal."

    I have a dream that one day on the grim frostbitten hills of Norway, the black metalheads and the gangsta rappers will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.

    I have a dream that one day even Gothenburg, a place sweltering with shitty melodeath, and rife with generic sellouts, will be transformed into an oasis of progressive soul nurturing music.

    I have a dream where bands will not be judged by how 'catchy their riffs are' but by how well they accomplish what they set out to do.
