The Other 35
Out 25 2008, 3h02 por Gone_Wishing
16. Is there a song by 25 that makes you sad?
My Brightest Diamond
MBD is an unusual artist, I think. The emotions aren't subtle, but they're not incisive like a lot of artist's work. It's a wholly beautiful thing to experience, really - and to answer the question, I think
We Were Sparkling is a rather sad song, but it's delivered in such a way as to be more uplifting than depressing... Interestingly enough, it was the first song I heard of hers - actually recommnded by Last.fm with the free download! Thank God I paid attention!
17. What is the first song you ever heard by 23?
Massive Attack
I'm pretty sure that it was
Unfinished Sympathy, but I never paid real attention to them until I heard
Teardrop - more fool me!
18. What's your favorite lyric by 11?
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
That's a really tough one - I'm never able to decide on "favourites", and this is no exception... For the sake of the quiz, however, I'll choose a few lines from
Into My Arms:
I don't believe in an interventionist God
But I know, darling, that you do
But if I did I would kneel down and ask Him
Not to intervene when it came to you
Not to touch a hair on your head
To leave you as you are
And if He felt He had to direct you
Then direct you into my arms
19. Who is a favorite member of 1?
Errrr.... Tori Amos!
20. Is there a song by 14 that makes you happy?
Ben Harper
Diamonds on the Inside would be the best contender, I suppose. =)
21. What is a good memory involving 27?
Dirty Vegas
Hmmm.... :/ Not a great deal of memories associated with that band. Umm, hearing the acoustic version of
Days Go By for the first time...?
22. What is your favorite song by 16?
Ack! I don't have a #16! Umm, let's just say that it's Depeche Mode and
Enjoy the Silence. ^_^
23. What is the first song you ever heard by 47?
Wolfmother
That would be
Mind's Eye. They had a lot of (unnecessary) hype surrounding them when they came on to the scene, but I still likes 'em. :) (Pity they disbanded after the one album - would have been good to see how they developed).
24. What is your favorite album by 18?
For all intents and purposes, #18 is Angus & Julia Stone, and although I have the two EP's Heart Full of Wine and Chocolates & Cigarettes, they've thus far released just the one full-length album - A Book Like This. So...that'd be my favourite. ;)
25. What is your favorite song by 21?
Jeff Buckley
Bleh - favourites! Lots, but for the sake of compliance, I adore
Forget Her
26. What is the first song you ever heard by 26?
Neneh Cherry
Woah - now that takes me back a few years... That would be
Buffalo Stance - and I didn't even like it at the time!
27. What is your favorite album by 3?
The Tea Party
Seriously not fair - TTP are, in my humble opinion, one of the greatest bands. Ever. It's impossible for me to choose a favourite album, I can only highly recommend the first three albums - Splendor Solis, The Edges of Twilight and Transmission to any and all interested in getting an idea of the awesome scope of this much underrated (and, unfortunately, defunct) band.
28. What is you favorite song by 2?
Tool
Ok, you can seriously get stuffed with the 'favourite' thing now - it's just not possible...
Sober
The Pot
Eulogy
Parabola
and ever other damn song is pure gold! XD
29. What was the first song you ever heard by 32?
Led Zeppelin
What the...? How can I be expected to remember that!? Led Zep were a favourite of my mother's, so I grew up listening to them... What the hey - I'm just going to say Dazed and Confused. :P
30. What is you favorite song by 8?
The Cure
pfft. Again, not possible to choose a favourite. >_>
Let's just go with
Lovesong
31. How many times have you seen 17 live?
Fiona Apple
Sadly, not even once.
32. Is there a song by 44 that makes you happy?
#44 has two artists - Sarah Blasko and Friendly.
Of the two, Friendly's I Love You But... has a pretty nifty hook... :) (The only lyrics to that song are: "I love you, but if you treat me like shit, you can just fuck off.") XD
33. How did you get into 12?
Gotye
Quite simply, I heard the song
Heart's A Mess and fell in love.
34. What is the worst song by 45?
Woot! Reprieve - I don't have a #45. :P
35. What was the first song you ever heard by 34?
#34 is an incorrect tag for Angus & Julia Stone. First song by them would have been
The Beast
36. What is the first song you ever heard by 48?
Pete Murray
That was So Beautiful
37. How many times have you seen 42 live?
Goldfrapp
Never.... :/
38. What is you favorite song by 36?
Denali
A fairly recent discovery, I'm still discovering their full catalogue of songs. I'm totally in love with
Relief
39. What was the first song you ever heard by 28?
Aimee Mann
Pavlov's Bell
40. What is you favorite album by 7?
Portishead
I have only just recently gotten my hands on their latest album Third, which I am liking a lot. The other two, Dummy and Portishead are pure brilliance, but the self-titled album probably sneaks ahead, just.
41. Is there a song by 31 that makes you happy?
Faultline
Ummm.........
I guess the closest is
Your Love Means Everything Part 2
42. What is your favorite album by 41?
This Mortal Coil
I just have the one - It'll End in Tears - which I bought mostly for their version of Song to the Siren
43. What is your favorite song by 24?
Orgy
Platinum reigns supreme, but I really dig their version of New Order's Blue Monday as well.
44. What is a good memory you have involving 46?
Hehe...
New Order
Dancing to Blue Monday at my city's only Goth nightclub - now closed.
45. What is your favorite song by 35?
The Doors
>_>
I guess I'll just go with The Crystal Ship
46. Is there a song by 9 that makes you happy?
Damien Rice
Boy - Damien Rice and happy is rather a contradiction in terms! The vast majority of his songs reflect on the dissolution of relationships... I suppose, if I had to pick any of them, I'd go for The Blower's Daughter - but even that is quite melancholy, especially considering the last line.
47. What is your favorite album by 4?
Deftones
This is actually a fairly easy one! White Pony is all kinds of awesome.
48. Who is a favorite member of 37?
System of a Down
Err... I don't really pay attention all that much to what the bands and artist's do beyond the music... The only reason I know the singer's name is because he released a solo album, so I'll just choose him for the hell of it... Serj Tenkian. (I don't even know if that's the correct spelling, actually. :/)
49. What is the first song you ever heard by 43?
Bat For Lashes
What's A Girl To Do - great song, coupled with a great film clip.
50. What is your favorite song by 20?
Beastie Boys
Nifty - I get to finish with another easy one.... XD
Sabotage

Summer 06: The summer I lost myself and traveled within the music. Deep in to the beats, escaping reality and coasting on colorful wavelengths. High and low, hand in hand with the rhythm. What I didn't know then is now with me every day. I am within the notes, where it's all too familiar.
Some of these songs are some of my favorites. -

1. How did you get into 29?
The same way I get into a lot of music I listen to actually. It was by either reading Magnet or Under The Radar, reading a review of Writer's Block, thinking it sounded good, downloading it, and falling in love with it.
2. What was the first song you ever heard by 22?
Mushaboom
3. How many albums by 13 do you own?
Four- 1 full album and 3 EP's.
4. What is your favorite song by 15?
Hard question! Probably Calm Americans though. That song gives me the chills every time I hear it.
5. What is your favorite song by 5?
Stockholm Syndrome. I listened to this song over and over and over after Joe and I broke up. For some reason it made me feel so much better.
6. Is there a song by 6 that makes you happy?
A.M. 180 because it always reminds me of the grocery store scene in 28 Days Later!
7. What is your favorite song by 10?
Scattered Pearls even though it's not technically sung by Owen. Though his version on Daytrotter was adorable!
8. What is a good memory you have involving 30?
I could say that putting
You File on the very first mix I ever made was my best Denali memory, but honestly, when I hear them sometimes I can't help but remembering playing
The Instinct for Ross and him hating it. But now he likes them!
9. Is there a song by 19 that makes you happy?
Set Yourself on Fire, but the Montag remix of it.
10. How many times have you seen 25 live?
None, sadly. Came close to seeing him last winter though!

Heartbeats because I was curious about them after hearing José González's version of it. I have ended up liking The Knife's version a lot more.

The Warning, definitely. Though Made In The Dark has my favorite track on it.
13. Who is a favorite member of 1?
Andrew Kenny, of course.
14. Have you ever seen 14 live?
I would like to since they're playing in Ithaca next Sunday!

Being called "Oregon Girl" by Will. Couldn't have asked a better question about this band.
16. What is your favorite song by 16?
I'll Believe in Anything
17. What is your favorite album by 18?
Lightness. I wasn't crazy about this album at first, but I slowly became obsessed with it. Now it's one of my absolute favorites.
18. What is your favorite song by 21?
Apple for Evan, closely followed by Southern Comfort, because it's beyond awesome when Carl shreds the banjolin!
19. What is the first song you ever heard by 26?
I can't definitively say, because I first heard it on a satellite radio station somewhere in New Jersey, and I don't remember the track. However, when I got home and got their album, the first track I listened to was
This Heart is a Stone.
20. What is your favorite album by 2?
Definitely Let's Get out of This Country, though Biggest Bluest Hi-Fi comes in at a really close second.
21. What is you favorite song by 3?
Very difficult question. I'd have to say
Skin Is, My. One of the sexiest songs I've ever heard.
22. What is you favorite song by 8?
I Am John even though this was one of my least favorite songs of his for a long time.
23. How many times have you seen 17 live?
None, but I would absolutely love to. Even though I can't understand much of what they say because I'm not fluent in French.
24. What is the worst song by 12?
Most of the latest album does not appeal to me. But my least favorite song is probably
Back to the Life.

Our Hell. Still gets to me.

Brother because it includes a "woo!" and a "yeah!", both of which are usually the mark of a great tune.
29. What is your favorite album by 4?

13, but that's mostly EP's and singles. I have four full albums from them. -
