And guys, Masaru (and a few other members of Falcom jdk BAND) worked with Kenji Ito to arrange a classic rock style arrange album of Romancing SaGa music, if anyone's interested. There's the first one, Re:Birth II, released in August 2012, and the second, Re:Birth II -Sen-, released just back in February this year. -Sen-, if not both of them, are available on iTunes. I've got the first one, and it's great, and I've listened to some of the second, it's even better, so check it out if you haven't already.

BTW random info about guitars and tunings; Masaru's 8-string is an Ibanez 2288 Prestige, it costs over $2000 (shit) and he uses a Fender 62' Stratocaster for leads and anything in E Standard, Eb Standard, or Drop D, and I believe he used Drop C# once before. He uses standard tuning for his 8-string, which is F# I believe. In Man'enjushaka and Zauberer he used the 8 for the rhythm tracks but Strawberry Crisis is played with the Fender in E Standard probably. He used E Standard in Mondo and Eb Standard in Offering, but Oriental Dark Flight and Eye of the Needles are in Drop A, I think. Le Grimoire de Reve is all Drop D (Heartfelt Fancy could possibly be in Drop C#, I can't tell).

In other words, you wouldn't know what to expect. I get the feeling, since that Demetori does a lot of power metal-oriented arranges, if they made an original album it would probably be more focused on progressive metal styles, but you never know. Well, it's obvious that even if they choose to do original material, it's gonna be good regardless.

His original work could sound exactly like any of the Touhou arranges; the only difference would be that the melodies would be created by him, not ZUN. But he could just write guitar show-off music that emphasises guitar solos over melody lines. Furthermore, since Demetori has done several different genres of rock and metal in the past, he might go anywhere from heroic power metal to progressive jazz rock, or even something like djent, since that's the most popular metal right now. They probably won't do any sort of techno considering that Tadashi plays the drums, but there are various options.

It depends on what style they choose to do. Say, if Masaru decided to write original material, he could possibly do some melody style that sounds like Touhou, but isn't. In other words, he would be taking a lot of influence from the Touhou melody style, but instead of arranging the songs, he would write his own melody that sounds similar. It would be like he was basing his songs on Touhou music. But he could also create more guitar-oriented instrumentals that include actual licks and solos instead of the Touhou-styled melody lines.

I was wishing Demetori had more listeners and scrobbles. The arranges are sometimes technical marvels rivaling even Children Of Bodom in skill, speed and raw power. Case examples: Innocent Treasures, Eye of the Needles, View of River Styx... Far from generic stuff!

I disagree. Better to reign as the kings of Touhou metal than to be just another band in the extremely oversaturated field of original metal. While Demetori is great on a technical level, I don't think their music would be nearly as fun to listen to without the videogame infusion.

CROW'SCLAW are constantly shifting between original and Touhou, and Pinetree's shifted there and back. As for arranges, Thousand Leaves have arranged several Touhou tracks more than once (hell, they arranged some tracks 3 times) so I'm not sure about that. Although I think Demetori are just too good to stay as a Touhou arrange band (they had an original song for CROWZFEST, didn't they?) so I want to see them do an original album, yeah. They might just form a new project for original songs a la Thousand Eyes.

I would want them to try their hand at original music, but when doujin artists make the jump from arranges to original material they often don't turn back. I'd like for them to move on when they feel like there's nothing left for them to arrange.

I'm kinda hoping Demetori will try doing some full instrumental original metal for their next album instead of just Touhou. Who agrees?

I was very impressed with le Grimoire De reve, felt like Il Mondo but greatly enhanced. Note; There's this funny thing that always happens with Japanese artists, they often copy riffs from western metal songs. Listen to Periphery; Scarlett and you'll find that the opening riff sounds quite similar to the opening riff in Casket of Star ~ Vessel of Stars. And seriously, people need to stop hating on ZAUBERER. Maybe some of the riffs are similar to Man'enjushaka, but the style is way different. I felt Man'enjushaka was very progressive and laid-back, and the guitars were more muddied and monstrous, while ZAUBERER had more of an agressive style and the guitars were more crunchy and heavy. Overall, it was pretty awesome to me, and Desire Drive is one of my favourite Demetori arrangements.
