Uma banda de um black metal altamente filosófico e experimental vinda da França, o Deathspell Omega hesitou em interpretar de verdade o papel tradicional de uma banda de rock (nesse caso, uma banda de metal), nunca revelando sua exata formação, ou promovendo seu trabalho através de um website oficial. O grupo lançou seu material pelo selo Norma Evangelium Diaboli, e discutia seu trabalho em entrevistas em um tom sério e ideológico — de modo quase acadêmico. O Deathspell Omega lançou seus primeiros dois álbuns, “Infernal Battles” e “Inquisitors of Satan”, em 2000 e 2002 respectivamente. Mas seria em seu próximo lançamento que os daria mais atenção, tanto comercialmente quanto pela crítica. O que viria a ser o primeiro de uma trilogia, “Si Monumentum Requires, Circumspice” (traduzido livremente do latim: Se Você Procura O Monumento D’Ele, Olhe Em Volta) era uma mudança em relação ao início da banda, tanto na estrutura quanto na produção. Em 2007, o grupo lançou o próximo capítulo da trilogia, “Fas - Ite, Maledicti, in Ignem Aeternum” (traduzido livremente: Lei Divina - Parta De Mim, Amaldiçoado, Em Chamas Eternas), que foi mais aclamado, incluindo a nomeação como álbum do ano pela revista de metal do Reino Unido, Terrorizer. Os membros conhecidos Hasjari, Mikko Aspa e khAos também lançaram vários álbuns split com outros artistas, como o Clandestine Blaze, o Moonblood e o Malicious Secrets.

it's totally stupid to write the u in Si Momentvum.....as a v 1.v is just a latin u 2.latin only had capital letters so you shouldn't write v but V, v didn't exist 3.song titles like odium nostrum are spelled just with u of course the deathspell guys show that they know latin by using correct spelling on their backcover, but the listeners id3-tags totally suck!!!
