In 2000, I heard Ariel for the first time on a DJ-less playlist of an AM station getting ready to sign off for good; never to hear it on the radio again. Never knew who the artist was, but the song stuck with me for many years even after only hearing it once. In 2005, found out it was Dean Friendman. In 2010, finally got a decent turntable and I was able to buy a brand new, still sealed, copy of Dean Friedman's self-titled vinyl record. In 2015, it is still one of my favorite records.

Dean Friedman talks to Bruce Pollock about the bittersweet success that came with his 1977 smash, "Ariel." Friedman also discusses his second big hit, which came 30 years later...in the form of a McDonald's commercial. - http://www.songfacts.com/blog/playingmysong/dean_friedman_-_ariel_/

Saw him on the Isle of Wight. He was great, even though he broke the pedal on the piano! He even apologised on behalf of the US for wrecking the global economy and turned Well Well Said the Rocking Chair into an ode to the credit crunch. Very entertaining guy.

Saw him last night at The Met in Bury - extremely good performer , highlight was ending with Lucky Stars and having the audience sing the girlie part !!!

You can hear a brief chat (3 mins or so) between Dean Friedman and our Dubster chaps while they were at Wickerman Festival - its about 2 hours into their show but why not listen to the whole lot ... or even better all of the shows. They loop all month. However, most of what we play might not be what a Friedman fan listens to. Who know - you might like it. Just found Dean's 'Songs For Grownups' album in my late father's CD collection and gave it a listen. I like! Yet another artist to pass from my dad to me. :)

I'm 20 and none of my friends like ol' Deano either. Thankfully my parents who got me into him love it so we always go along to his shows when he hits the UK! It's a great laugh if you can ever get to one, they're almost... informal, especially the last one I saw at the RNCM in Manchester!

I just discovered Dean. I'm loving it. None of my friends get me though, I'm seventeen. Must be a generation thing.
