Formed in 2001 by Kurt Marschke (vocals/guitar) and Philip Skarich (bass/vocals), this US roots rock band was originally based in the duo’s home-town of Detroit, Michigan. They were joined by a revolving cast list of studio and touring musicians in the first two years of the band’s existence, including Pete Ballard (pedal steel/dobro), Phil Dürr (guitar), Eric Hoegemeyer (tambourine), Ross Westerbur (keyboards), Aric Karpinski (keyboards), and William King (drums). Their self-titled debut album was heavily reminiscent of Exile On Main Street-era Rolling Stones, with its swaggering mixture of country, folk and rock ‘n’ roll and prominent backing vocals from Masha Marjieh.

One word: Phenomenal. Absolutely the best rock and roll that I've heard in the last ten years or so (and there are quite a few good ones around, if you haven't noticed). Start with a sound anchored in Beggar's Banquet through Exile on Main Street era Rolling Stones and build it from there with classic Americana.
