Hope you've had as good a year as I've had :)

While it was a hard year for some in general, in terms of music this year was very interesting indeed. There were some surprising things on the way and others, not so surprising, going on. I found it easy to predict Lady GaGa's success, for example. Pop music needed someone new or at least reinventing old pop "virtues". ;) But then I didn't think I'd ever like her as much as I do now (thanks to The Fame Monster).
The biggest surprise for me was Bat for Lashes. I'd heard about Natasha and her band before but always thought they wouldn't bring anything new to my musical world. How wrong I was... And now Two Suns is one of my favorite albums this year. Sometimes change comes fast.
There were lots of new interesting things in general. It's all in my summary below. I hope your musical year 2009 was as good as mine. :)

Song of the year

Fast Horse by Tori. By far the most important song for me this year. Really mirrored some personal feelings and always was some kind of support for me.

9: Dragonette - Stupid Grin
I only 'discovered' Dragonette this year and I am sooo glad I did. Pop perfection. This and Pick Up The Phone are the highlights for me from the new album but this song edges it just for the point at 2.45 where the bridge kicks in and it makes me wanna put my hands up in the air EVERY time.

8: Florence + The Machine - Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)
This track was most peoples introduction to Florence Welch, and what an introduction it is. The lyrics are awesome, and the chorus is immense (even if she doesn't quite pull it off live...)

7: The Gossip - Heavy Cross
Despite this song reaching a meagre 40 in the charts it is without a doubt my favourite song they have ever done. Simply for: I TRUST YAAAAAAOOOOOOOOO.
Amazing. Beth's voice is incredible, and underrated.

6: Lady GaGa - Poker Face
Pure pop. Catchy as hell, from the mah mah mah mah, to the "Russian roulette is not the same without a gun" this song is the pinnaccle of 2009 pop. (Well that is, until she trumps herself later in the year...)

5: Rihanna - Hard (feat. Jeezy)

4: Little Boots - Remedy
I could not stop singing this when I first bought the album in May/June (?)
I know it's RedOne, and that means Little Boots is 'selling out', but when its this good, who cares?

3: La Roux - In For The Kill
The high vocals have started to grate as the year has gone on, but there is no denying that this song made impact. It showed Radio 1 who was really in control and came screams n all to the top of the charts (as well as the end of year bestsellers list.) A kick up the arse for pop if ever it needed it.

2: Florence + The Machine - Dog Days Are Over
It is easy to forget how good this song actually is what with it being released in January this year. However, doing so would be extremely stupid. The way the song builds to its climax is breathtaking, and apart from the number 1 in this countdown of course, there is no better song to shout along to this year. Stunning.
