so my last journal entry was in aug 06, aka the summer before university.
so clearly, some of my music selections have changed, and some hasnt!
still the same:
Westlife for one. the slow sappy stuff with no swearing, and G rated lyrics. its good to know that there's still secular music out there that isnt full of profanity. plus Shane's got amazing vocals. cant go wrong there!
plenty of other late 90s and early 00s music is still on my playlist. its what i 'grew up' with so i dont think i'll ever get tired of it, even if many of hte bands have broken up already. such as
S Club 7,
Blue,
Atomic Kitten,
5ive,
McFly (well, they're still around and i like their new stuff too!),
Backstreet Boys,
98 Degrees.
christian stuff, i still listen to
Hillsong and
Hillsong United but not as much. i guess Hillsong United was more geared towards youth, as in high schoolers? so i prefer Hillsong stuff now. haha... and i've always listened to
Chris Tomlin and still do!
'new' music (well, to my library at least):
When
Home first came out, thats the only song i liked. but ive learnt to appreciate the whole rat pack era and stuff thats a tad bit more jazzy so
Michael Buble's one of my favourites now. and you cant forget about
Jason Mraz either! really loved his latest album,
We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things. sadly, ive missed 2 opportunities to see him. or rather, i didnt really make the effort to go =P
so entering university, i was invited to attend the Passion 2007 conference with a few friends. and that really broadened up worship music for me. before the conference, i knew maybe most of Tomlin's songs, a few songs here and there by the other 3 main Passion worship leaders (
David Crowder Band,
Charile Hall,
Matt Redman, and i had heard of a few others such as
Shane & Shane,
Steve Fee,
Christy Nockels/
Watermark,
Tim Hughes,
Kristian Stanfill, etc
another new discovery is
Lincoln Brewster. c'mon.. a worship leader with a mohawk and has crazy skills on the electric guitar. if you're ever in the car for a really long time (aka road trip, travelling back and forth from home/school towns, etc), stick in a Brewster CD. catchy riffs, catchy beats, catchy melody, great lyrics, yeah!
obviously i couldnt list out every single artist i listen to, but this is the general gist of it.
oh, and i got an iphone! so once i figure out how to scrobble that... BOOYEAH! :D
