Just like the last time i'm afraid most of the artists here aren't performing anymore for diferent reasons. I don't care. This would be heaven & I'm so making a playlist out of it and picturing myself there.

Every time I listen to this album, it gives me chills, it's so good.
I guess "Station to Station" is mainly known as David Bowie's coke album, as the habit he took on while recording "Young Americans" totally overtook him. I know Bowie prefers calling this material plastic soul, but I don't know why. There is a soul in this music, but it's a frantic, tormented, frankly frightening soul. "Station to Station" is often harrowing, at times desperate, even a bit morbid. But it is so, so excellent.
My favorite track from it is my favorite Bowie song altogether, "Stay." It's my favorite anthem of longing. His lyrics are heart-rending, his vocals so vulnerable. It starts out with a mid-tempo guitar riff, but it keeps picking up, as though he's getting more and more anxious, barely keeping control. of Montreal may have brought emo funk back, but Kevin Barnes must have taken huge cues from this song.

Happy 61st to David Jones aka... David Bowie!

Today is David Bowie's 61st birthday and I thought I'd celebrate by scrobbling some Bowie Albums this fine morning. I am starting off with Aladdin Sane. A venerable classic, for sure, with one of my favorites,Panic in Detroit. I also think you can start to hear the beginnings of his dabbling with the Philly Soul sound on this album that comes to a head on Young Americans.
Next I am skipping forward to Black Tie White Noise which is way underrated even by some of his die hard fans. This was a key album, heavily influenced by the R&B and Hip Hop out at the time that transitioned Bowie out of the dreaded 80's & into the 90's where he reinvented himself yet again and embraced a more electronic sound & eventually blazed the way for other musicians on the "interwebs", tee hee. This album includes I Feel Free, the incredible Cream cover and one of my Bowie favorites, Jump They Say.
Then I will go back to Station to Station because, well, my very favorite Bowie song is on it. …
