    1. What is your favorite song by 29?
Queens of the Stone Age : Probably something off Songs For The Deaf. They have alot of good songs.

    2. What was the first song you ever heard by 22?
Leftfield : Afro-right. It was off the Wipeout XL soundtrack, which acted as my gateway to electronic music. I also discovered Orbital there. Hell, the Wipeout XL soundtrack is easily the best electronica compilation I have come across. What a classic.

    3. What is your favorite album by 33?
CoLD SToRAGE : His WipeOut soundtrack. The original. XL was good stuff, but the original is probably the darkest he ever was. His online albums are a little light, but I dig those too.

    4. What is your favorite album by 49?
Jerry Goldsmith : Alien OST. One of the greatest soundtrack ever composed. Just brilliant brillant stuff. Gives me the creeps...

    5. How many albums by 13 do you own?
Meat Beat Manifesto : Nine. I think I might own more of his stuff than anyone. All it is worth buying.

    6. What is your favorite song by 50?
Don Davis : TocarAnything Is Possible. What an ending piece. So uplifting... Really suits the whole feeling of Neo finding his true place...

    7. Is there a song by 7 that makes you sad?
Enigma : The whole McMxc A.D. album. His darkest piece of work and best.

    8. What is your favorite song by 15?

    9. What is your favorite song by 5?
    KMFDM : Megalomaniac

    10. Is there a song by 6 that makes you happy?

Akira Ifukube : His score for the original Godzilla film Gojira is the only one I would listen to nowadays.

    18. What is your favorite album by 11?
The Future Sound of London : Accelerator. Wonderful early 90s electronic. Up there with Aphex Twin's SAW 1 album. Now this would be Lifeforms, but I still haven't "got" that album even after many repeated listens.

    19. How did you get into 1?
Nine Inch Nails : I had heard of TR and NIN off hand on forums and electronic essentials list. I almost bought it at Best Buy after having read about it one day. Couple years later, my friend in High School had a DAT tape with The Downward Spiral on it. He showed me the intro track and it totally ripped my head off. I had never heard anything so brutal and agonizing. I later downloaded the full album off Limewire and god that first listen... I had never heard such a depressing album before. It totally beat my early conceptions of music to the ground. Rest is history.

    20. Have you ever seen 14 live?

Rage Against the Machine : HAHA actually more pumped.

    33. What is you favorite album by 12?

  • My favourite James Bond themes

    Abr 21 2009, 4h20 por kageru-hinoryu

    1. TocarFrom Russia With Love
Hands down my favourite. And it's an orchestral. You don't need some big budget singer to make a great Bond theme!
    2. The James Bond Theme
Okay, I suppose this really shouldn't go on the list, but it was the theme for Dr. No, so blah. The essential :D
    3. TocarYou Know My Name
I'm probably going to get chastised for having this one so high on my list, but according to my iPod, I've listened to it over 700 times, so Cornell must be doing something right. This was the song to the first James Bond film I fell in love with, and on top of that, it's a really great song. (one consistency - I tend to like the themes done by David Arnold or John Barry. :D)
    4. TocarA View To A Kill
I'm ashamed to say I haven't actually seen the film (I haven't seen a lot of the Bond films, actually), but I adore this track.
    5. TocarTomorrow Never Dies
For some reason, I'm magnetized to this track. It kind of exudes that whole dark spy motif.
    6. TocarNobody Does It Better
This song is ace. Need I say more?
    7. TocarYou Only Live Twice
    Same goes for this one.
    8. TocarGoldfinger
And this. This is the epitome of the titular villain, not to mention it incorporates the James Bond theme motif, which is something I greatly admire in a Bond theme.
    9. On Her Majesty's Secret Service
Another of the rare pure orchestral themes. This one's a keeper.
    10. TocarLive And Let Die
    11. TocarThe World Is Not Enough
Again, I sort of favour the themes written by Arnold. This one's great, and the lead singer of Garbage has a great voice that carries the song.
    12. TocarAnother Way to Die
    Nice effort, but not quite.
    13. TocarDie Another Day
This doesn't even feel like a James Bond theme... it's an okay song though.

  • New and Old, Part 2

    Nov 27 2008, 20h53 por Snikunovits

It's once again time for some .FLACtastic fun with music library ripping. This time I've got just five albums because the sixth one would've been Miami Vice I and I'm going to save it and all the other Miami Vice albums for the next time.

    The Breakfast Club (1985)

John Hughes' hit teen flick from the '80s, which is pretty awesome to watch even though the whole message about parents not understanding their kids can get a little preachy and tiresome after you watch the movie for the sixth time. Features 'The Brat Pack' as the kids and Paul Gleason as the angry principal whose monitoring their eight hour long detention. The film made Simple Minds' a household name in The United States and for some fans ruined their sound for a long time since the pop song Don't You Forget About Me provided them a succesfull formula of sure-and-safe stadium rock sound.

Notable tracks: Don't You Forget About Me, Waiting, I'm the Dude!

Command & Conquer: Red Alert Soundtrack (1996)

The original Red Alert is, at least for me, the epitome of a perfect light real-time strategy game. It's not a surprise that one of its most memorable aspects is the absolutely kick-ass score by Frank Klepacki. The official soundtrack features a selection of songs that cover roughly 3/4 of the complete score and showcases Klepacki's talent for creating sounds that range from gritty ambient to fast-paced electronica to crushing heavy metal and majestic orchestral pieces.

Notable tracks: Dense, Radio (actually Radio 2) and, of course, the anthemic Hell March

    The Incredibles (2004)

Pixar, alongside Valve Software, is IMO the only studio capable of creating a solid and entertaining 3D animation. Even better is when Pixar is paired with Brad Bird who seems to have the touch of Midas when it comes to cartoons and animated feature films. The Incredibles is a fresh take on the superhero fable and is often considered to be one of the best 3D animations ever, entertaining both kids and adults (but mostly adults, lol). Since the setting is an alternative late '60s environment, the music is naturally fit for a spy movie... and it's, excuse the pun, incredible.

Notable tracks: Life's Incredible Again, 100 Mile Dash, The Incredits

    Independence Day (1996)

An idiotic but so goddamn entertaining Roland Emmerich disaster movie where the president of United States is Mr. Cool Guy who likes to kick some alien ass in his fighter jet and Jeff Goldblum hacks into an alien mainframe with a Mac. It's a really grand movie and boasts one of the most pompous scores ever composed. David Arnold is Mr. Stars and Stripes when it comes to movie composers.

Notable tracks: The Day We Fight Back, The President's Speech and the most bloated End Titles ever created in the history of mankind. I mean, seriously. It goes over the top so many times during the finale that... well, you'll have to listen to it yourself. Holy $#!&. Awesome.

    MDK (1997)

Possibly the wackiest and surrealistic FPS game ever made and entertaining as hell. The game sounds and looks very dated by now but despite the crude quality of both graphics and sounds, the ambient and atmosphere is something else and well worth experiencing. The game is laughably short, featuring only about five levels or so but each and every one of them are unique and memorable. Tommy Tallarico's score is one of the game's better features and I believe the published soundtrack features each and every track (albeit in a slightly rearranged and finalized forms). Unfortunately, the last track included is an awful techno remix instead of Billy Ze Kick's awesome cover of TocarNon Non Rien N'a Changé which was featured in the ending FMV.

Notable tracks: Prologue, New Territories, Tribal Unity

    Hear you later.

  • Stargate OST

    Jul 9 2008, 1h39 por milkita

Am craving to own the Stargate OST (David Arnold). Living in Indonesia makes it impossible to buy it, though. That is why I have asked my brother, who lives in NYC, to buy it for me.

He says he'll send it to me this September. YEY.
  • Discreet Chart Conexions!?!

    Mai 11 2008, 17h55 por NightMoves

In the grand tradition of meaningless internet timewasting, I propose to draw connections between all the recording artistes in my Top 50 list. In doing this, I will have safely put off all the things I actually need to do.

    Starting at Number 50, then:

    50. Wendy Carlos
Scored two Stanley Kubrick movies. Stanley Kubrick directed Barry Lyndon, which was pastiched in the video for CC (You Set the Fire in Me) by

    49. Tom Vek
Contributed a song to the Grand Theft Auto IV soundtrack, which also features Godley and Creme's Cry. Godley and Creme also directed music videos, one of which was for the band Yes, which at one time featured Trevor Horn, production mastermind behind

    48. The Art of Noise
Which also comprised Anne Dudley and Paul Morley, both of whom worked with

    47. ABC
Fronted by the inimitable Martin Fry, who performed a cover of Tom Jones' Bond theme TocarThunderball on David Arnold's Shaken Not Stirred album, which also featured Leftfield, who, on their track TocarOpen Up, worked with John Lydon, frontman of

    46. Public Image Ltd.
Toured with New Order on The Monsters of Alternative Rock tour in 1989. New Order's Peter Hook has claimed that he had been invited to perform onstage with

    45. Interpol
Who played the Curiosa festival, organised by Robert Smith of

    44. The Cure
    A much credited influence on

    43. The Killers
Whose video for TocarBones was directed by Tim Burton, also director of Batman. Batman: The Animated Series was graced by the voiceover talents of one Stuart Goddard, better known as the frontman of

    42. Adam and the Ants
Who recorded a song called Friends,in which Jim Morrison is namechecked. Jim Morrison had an affair with Nico, of The Velvet Underground, which was primarily fronted by

    41. Lou Reed
A contributor to the soundtrack to David Lynch's Lost Highway. Lynch also directed Dune, which Ridley Scott was originally intended to direct. Instead, Scott worked on Blade Runner, which was scored by

    40. Vangelis
That movie score is being performed in full at Massive Attack's Meltdown festival, where

    39. Grace Jones
Will also be performing. Jones co-starred with Arnold Schwarzenegger in Conan the Destroyer. Schwarzenegger appears as himself (apparently) in the comedy movie Dave, which stars Kevin Kline, who recorded vocals for TocarDisco Clone, probably the most famous song by

    38. Cristina
One of the acts on the Ze Label in New York. New York is also the home to

    37. Yeah Yeah Yeahs
One of many bands to appear on the Gang of Four tribute album Return The Gift. Another was

    36. Bloc Party
Whose frontman, Kele Okereke, was born in Liverpool, home to

    35. Echo and the Bunnymen
Frontman Ian McCulloch is a fan of David Bowie. In the late 70s, Bowie declared that his idea for a multimedia stage show had been anticipated by

    34. The Human League
Who were asked to tour with Talking Heads. The frontman of Talking Heads was half of the informal partnership behind the My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts album:

    33. Brian Eno and David Byrne
Eno produced David Bowie's Lodger album, which featured the single TocarBoys Keep Swinging, covered by

    32. The Associates
Bono wrote the foreword to a book on Associates frontman Billy Mackenzie. Bono sang on a Michael Hutchence album produced by Andy Gill of

    31. Gang of Four
Whose bassist, Dave Allen, later joined Shriekback, which also featured members of XTC, one of many bands covered by

    30. Nouvelle Vague
Who also covered a Generation X song. Generation X's Billy Idol is famous for his song TocarWhite Wedding, partially covered in a version of What You Waiting For by

    29. Franz Ferdinand
Past recipients of the Mercury Music Prize, an accolade last bequeathed to

    Who were covered by

    26. Siouxsie and the Banshees
    An acknowledged early influence on

    25. U2
Who recorded Achtung Baby at Hansa Studios, Berlin, the same place that The Idiot by

    24. Iggy Pop
Was recorded some thirteen or so years earlier. Iggy Pop is one of the favourite artists of Alison

    23. Goldfrapp
Who played Coachella this year, along with

    22. Kraftwerk
Kraftwerk's Karl Bartos guested on an album by Electronic, the Johnny Marr/Bernard Sumner side project. Whilst in Joy Division, Bernard Sumner worked with Martin Hannett, who produced much of the recorded output of

    21. John Cooper Clarke
Was a friend of Mark E. Smith's. Apparently, a song on The Fall's debut album refers to Julian Cope of

    20. The Teardrop Explodes
Julian Cope is a much regarded historian of Krautrock, Prog and suchlike, and has written about King Crimson. Robert Fripp of King Crimson once asked David Sylvian of

    19. Japan
To serve as the frontman of his band. In an anecdote about the making of Tin Drum, Mick Karn notes that Paul McCartney asked to appear on the album. McCartney and the other Beatles were parodied by The Residents on their debut album. The Residents also recorded a cover of TocarSatisfaction by The Rolling Stones, as did

    18. Devo
A parody of whose song TocarWhip It features in an episode of The Simpsons. The Simpsons devoted an entire episode to a parody of Citizen Kane, directed by Orson Welles, who also directed a film version of The Trial by Franz Kafka. The protagonist of The Trial is

    7. Pulp
The video for Pulp's Bad Cover Version features a

    6. David Bowie
impersonator. Bowie is the credited writer of Blur's M.O.R., due to it borrowing the melody from TocarBoys Keep Swinging. Blur's Damon Albarn was the partner of Justine Frischman from Elastica, who also plagiarised a song, albeit one by

  • 60,000 songs... a new frontier?

    Out 21 2007, 20h37 por Rian

Wow! Sixty thousand songs! With an average of three minutes, that makes for nearly three thousand hours of music played, or 125 full days. It looks like this time, I’ve managed to play those 20,000 a bit faster than last time; only ten months now. In this time, I’ve came across some new music, some new artists and even a couple of fellow soundtrack enthusiasts. Thank you all (even the songs and their artists) for the wonderful year!

But on to the music; these were last year’s results:
    01. Bear McCreary - 4622
    02. Richard Gibbs - 2904
    03. John Powell - 2213
    04. John Williams - 1875
    05. Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard - 1285
    06. Danny Elfman - 1073
    07. Hans Zimmer - 1070
    08. Greg Edmonson - 810
    09. Howard Shore - 785
    10. Brian Tyler - 727

    #10 Asche & Spencer - 1,225 plays [newcomer]
A newcomer in my top played artists, of whom I only have one soundtrack: Stay. Telling you anything about the story would be a shame. I’ve watched this movie without knowing what it was about and it amazed me in so many ways. The music is soft and totally fits the movie. A must-buy if you ask me.

    #9 Brian Tyler - 1,266 plays [up 1 place]
More worms! Still only one excellent score. I don’t listen to it that much anymore because it sounds somewhat repetitive, but it has 35 or so songs, which makes up for the number of plays on last.fm. Sorry Brian, but you should be going down. Make more music!

    #8 David Arnold - 1,325 plays [newcomer]
This is an artist that I somehow rediscovered. I had his old Independence Day album lying around, but there has been a Stargate re-release. Somehow, I’ve gone through my bond collection too and Arnold popped up. Good to see ya!

    #7 Danny Elfman - 1,646 plays [down 1 place]
Still my first love. I remember playing The Nightmare before Christmas quite often recently, because I saw it for the first time this year. (I know, I should be ashamed.) However, I haven’t played that much of him lately. Next year, Danny, I promise!

#6 Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard - 1,864 plays [down 1 place]
Talk about a co-operation on this one: Batman Begins. Still one of my favourite scores to date. I wish they would make more like this.

    #5 Hans Zimmer - 2,145 plays [up 2 places]
I’ve fallen in love with his score to Hannibal, but his latest two Pirates of the Caribbean were also very good. I can see this one rising even more in the coming year.

#4 John Williams - 2,486 plays [same place]
Only about 600 plays this year, and I’m afraid Mr. Williams won’t make it to the fourth place next year. Maybe I’ve been a Star Wars fan too much in the past years, and to be completely honest, I don’t like his other music all that much. Mmmyes, some of the classics maybe. Who knows, next year he could be performing the new Indiana Jones. I’m willing to give him another try for that one.

    #3 Richard Gibbs - 3,902 plays [down 1 place]
Yeah, still that guy. About 1000 plays this year and still only one soundtrack. The Battlestar Galactica Main Titles song keeps stalking me; and it’s a shame that they’ve never used it on the show itself, only during the miniseries. Go Gibbs, I know you’ve got some other fabulous work in you!

    #2 John Powell - 3,914 plays [up 1 place]
I can’t believe my eyes. I really can’t. Richard Gibbs has been beaten, and Master John is now in second place. What can I say? His Bourne trilogy scores are simply a-m-a-z-i-n-g! The third one took some getting used to, but I grew to love it; very up-tempo. Keep’em coming!

    #1 Bear McCreary - 6,285 [same place]
I know, it’s my personal addiction. That’s another 1600 plays, and the season 3 soundtrack has just come out. That one will surely be on repeat for a couple of weeks. Oh and what I said about season 2 being the best Bear’s got for us, well... you’re in for a surprise ;)

So, who’s gone then? Poor Marco Beltrami, I love your music, but Die Hard 4 was somewhat of a disappointment. I’ll try to play something more of you this year. Greg Edmonson, goodbye! Revelations of the year? Try the French rock band M83, they have an excellent mix of ambient and rock. Also Mogwai; can’t believe I’ve never heard of them before this year.

My advice for you this year: try new artists, you’ll be surprised!
