  • Top Fifty Interview

    Mai 13 2009, 15h38 por Satin_Gypsy

    1. How did you get into 29? (Marilyn Manson)
It was through Goldfrapp that I got interested. They originally remixed his song "TocarThis Is the New Shit" and after hearing that, I was very interested in hearing the original. So I did, and then I listened to more and more and I liked it.

    2. What was the first song you ever heard by 22? (Bjork)
    "Army Of Me"

    3. What's your favorite lyric by 33? (Blondie)
I don't have any of the lyrics memorized, so I can't really say.

    4. How did you get into 49? (The Pretenders)
I was on a road trip with my family and the song "Middle of the Road" played and I really got into them after that.

    5. How many albums by 13 do you own? (Beck)
    7

    6. What is your favorite song by 50? (The Beatles)
    "All You Need Is Love"

    7. Is there a song by 39 that makes you sad? (Kelly Clarkson)
I don't think so. Most of her songs are pretty optimistic.

    8. What is your favorite song by 15? (Patti Smith)
"Frederick" I love it because it's a really gorgeous song to listen to and sing.

    9. What is your favorite song by 5? (Alanis Morissette)
"Hand In My Pocket (acoustic)" solely for the fact that it is the first song I've ever heard from her. And I loved it and I still love it.

    10. Is there a song by 6 that makes you happy? (Goldfrapp)
"TocarCaravan Girl" because of the optimism it has behind it. It feels like a song about freedom.

    11. What is the worst song by 40? (Paula Cole)
I don't think that she has one.

    12. What is your favorite song by 10? (Liz Phair)
There are a lot of them, but I think that it might be "Whitechocolatespaceegg"

    13. What is a good memory you have involving 30? (PUFFY)
Discovering the "NICE." album. That was perhaps the best moment involving them.

    14. What is your favorite song by 38? (Heart)
I don't really have any favorites. Just about every track from "Dreamboat Annie" were favorites.

    15. Is there a song by 19 that makes you happy? (Madonna)
"Don't Tell Me" and "Hollywood". Those were some of my favorites.

    "DOA"

    18. What's your favorite lyric by 11? (Stevie Nicks)
I can't remember any right now. But there were so many good ones.

    19. Who is a favorite member of 1? (Tori Amos)
There's only one member of a solo act unless you count the backing band. But that would be kind of embarrassing for the lead person.

    20. Is there a song by 14 that makes you happy? (The B-52s)
"Rock Lobster". It's my absolute favorite! :)

    21. What is a good memory involving 27? (No Doubt)
Probably singing the lyrics to "Underneath It All" with my step-sister in my Dad's car. That was FUN!

Without a doubt, "Taking The Long Way"

    23. What is the first song you ever heard by 47? (ABBA)

That's another tough one since there are so many. But I think my favorite is "TocarNo Questions Asked"

Not off the top of my head

    33. How did you get into 12? (Celine Dion)
She was the first ever artist that I heard and I liked. I was really young and my mom would play her all the time. So somehow, it kind of soaked into me and I've grown to love her as well.

    34. What is the worst song by 45? (Avril Lavigne)

  • Mama Mia thank you for the music

    Fev 3 2009, 16h28 por theHallow

    ABBA Gold

I find it very interesting how now years later as I am starting my adult life that one of my favorite artist is one that was played in my home's radio at mom's request when I was a kid. Obviously being gay for some reason makes me genetically predisposed to like Disco music, but I would have never guessed that those sounds that were around my household would ever be the ones I would enjoy most when going out to a club. There are not that many artists whose sounds remain relevant after decades of their success but somehow Abba's sound remains timeless and still keeps getting fresher thanks to new iterations such as the DVD release of Mama Mia and new covers by artists such as Kylie Minogue and Dannii Minogue. Abba Gold really is a remarkable compilation of the groups best work and I am sure that generations will continue to enjoy until they meet their very own Waterloo just like my mother did. So here it is a cheer to my late mother and her remarkable taste in music and for having induced this taste in me from vbery early on in my childhood, so TocarMamma Mia TocarThank You for the Music

  • How varied is my music taste?

    Jan 22 2009, 18h47 por LaTuaCantantex

'First, make a list of your overall top-20 artists. Then, for each of these artists, add the 8 most similar artists to your list. Delete any duplicates, add up the number of entries on your list and this will give you some idea of how eclectic your listening habits are. A score of 9 represents an extremely unvaried musical taste while a 160 represents an extremely varied one.'

  • Beyoncé - I am... Sasha Fierce (Review)

    Dez 2 2008, 19h51 por materialboi2606

    Beyoncé – I Am… Sasha Fierce

If Beyoncé’s overexposed 2006/2007 period taught her anything, it should have been that less is more. B’Day was the best album she’d been involved in since Survivor, but it was eclipsed by other stories such as her being outshone in her breakthrough movie Dreamgirls by supporting actress Jennifer Hudson. Unfortunately for Knowles, Hudson has gone and done it again – her debut album (Jennifer Hudson), if certainly not perfect, is better than I am… Sasha Fierce by quite a way.

For some reason, Knowles has decided to split her third offering over two discs, a mistake that Christina Aguilera made recently, but what’s this? There are only half a dozen songs on each! What bizarre reasoning eventually led to this decision is surely unknown, but the first disc I am…, which is essentially a collection of six ballads, claims to showcase Beyoncé’s true personality while the second disc (Sasha Fierce), apparently lets loose her more confident, sexier alter ego.

What’s most surprising here, if the double disc theory is to be believed, is that the Beyoncé that most people know and love of “Crazy in Love (feat. Jay-Z)” fame is actually not her at all! No, we were all fooled – it was Sasha Fierce all along. Here, Sasha purrs away competently, with only “TocarSweet Dreams and Rihanna impersonation “TocarRadio” actually leaving any lasting positive impression.

On the first disc, Beyoncé runs us through what sounds like a few rejects from the Dangerously in Love sessions, and rather than be one “TocarIrreplaceable” (or even “TocarListen”) after the other, you will find yourself struggling to remember the track names, let alone the melodies.

Aside from the blandness of I am…, the main problem is how unpersonal the supposedly personal songs are – happily married Beyoncé sings of her broken heart, what could be more detatched than that? Beyoncé is such a private person that for her to release a collection of deeply personal songs would have been genuinely interesting, unfortunately the idea was there but the execution was dire.

Only on the fantastic “TocarHalo” do we get the impression that we are hearing the real Beyoncé. Unfortunately, she probably had as much to do with the writing of this song as Cheryl Cole has to do with Dannii Minogue – “Halo” was apparently hand-crafted by Ryan Tedder for Leona Lewis. Regardless, if Beyoncé is going to have a massive “Crazy in Love” or “Irreplaceable” size hit from I am… Sasha Fierce, my money is certainly on “Halo”.
