OK, another year, another chart..This year I've struggled, maybe I left it too late, maybe there's just been too much great music, regardless, I found a flat 50 to be too tough a challenge..As usual, there's no particular order, other than the top group being an alphabetical list, composed of my personal favourites and the other being solely alphabetical..Enjoy..

  • Final recs for the weekend

    Nov 22 2008, 23h45 por Kapitankraut

    1. DUBSKA - "Avokado"
Polish reggae, and with a charmingly laid-back vibe, sounding more dubby than ragga-ish, which makes a lovely change. This is a nice little summer track all round, even though I have no idea at all what they're singing about. Tasty horn section.

    2. Axel Rudi Pell - "Oceans of Time"
German melodic/power metal, although this is very much a ballad. This is full of those "put your lighters in the air" moments that everyone loves, but as a result feels ever so slightly contrived. Pleasant enough, but not essential.

    3. The Gap Band - "You Dropped A Bomb On Me"
Some honest funk music, by one of the leading exponents thereof. Nice and catchy stuff, even if by this point funk was cleaner than it should've been.

    4. Lustmord - "Part I"
One day I'll remember why I keep listening to dark ambient, since it never turns out to be much good. It also means I get recommended more of it, like this track, which is...well...dark and ambient. Nothing to see here, though.

    5. Boredoms - "Super Are"
The genre here should probably be "Weird Japanese Stuff", as this track has opened with some kind of ambient noodling. Indeed, it may not move beyond that, according to the bio on the site. I'm not interested in finding out.

    6. Nil Karaibrahimgil - "Nek"
She was recommended to me a while ago, but she's back again. Her voice is a bit tricky to get into, because it sounds like that affected "little girl" sound a lot of female singers feel they have to do these days. Nice music, though.

    7. Dahlia's Tear - "3rd Sky In-Perfection, From The Past Subconscious"
More dark ambient, although tending just to be ambient on this track. There's the sound of an orchestra tuning up briefly, but nothing special.

    8. Blood Storm - "Death Thunder"
    Some rather undistinguished black/thrash here.

    9. Beyond Sensory Experience - "The Dull Routine of Existence"
Or indeed the dull routine of dark ambient. Next!

    10. Troum - "Del"
Some more dark ambient, although with a drone overtone to it. This does make it slightly more interesting than the rest, due almost entirely to the rumbling sounds, but still there's nothing to write home about.
  • Dahlia's Tear - Harmonious Euphonies For Supernatural Traumas Mesmerising Our…

    Ago 19 2008, 10h30 por ManOfMotley

Первый альбом Dahlia's Tear с весьма оригинальным названием «Harmonious Euphonies For Supernatural Traumas Mesmerising Our Existences In Radient Corpuscle Galaxies». Dahlia's Tear).
Но если попытаться, то скорее всего это будут: Scarlet Ad Infinitum, Endless Snow Spiralling Gentle, Surullinen Kyyhkynen, Hydrangea Wept In Emerald Lake и Neptune's Sore, The Blueness.

Once again, remember that I'm not endorsing any of these automatically. Some may be terrible, others may be good.

    1. Xuacu Amieva - "Nalón"
Asturian folk music, which is an interesting start. The overall sound is very soundtrack-y, and in fact I would've thought it was one of Mark Knopfler's efforts had I not known better. It's a pleasant track, and with more than a hint of the Celtic influence that many people are surprised exists in Spain overall. Not a track that goes anywhere in particular, but instrumental folk needn't do that.

    2. Sjodogg - "Kiss of the Butterfly"
From the sublime to the ridiculous. This is a black metal concern which doesn't sound particularly good, but has some rather impressive vocals at times.

    3. Oskorri - "Alabaren Ezkontza"
Back to Spain again, and this time we're in the Basque country for some folk music in the incredible Basque language - a language which is often suggested to be a remnant of what was spoken in Europe before the Indo-Europeans got there.
There are heavy similarities to Tri Yann, particularly in the vocal patterns, but the slightly off-kilter rhythm is something I've never met before. The fact that I can't understand a word of the language just adds to the wonder I feel with this track.

    4. Magnus Carlsson - "Live Forever (Acoustic Live Version)"
I don't know how I didn't delete this one from my recommendations, since I've already heard two full Magnus albums in my pre-LastFM days. Still, this one's an acoustic version of one of his better tracks. The vocals are a bit muffled due to it being live, but his voice stacks up surprisingly well.

    5. Manes - "the cure-all, lost time (rachmiel mix)"
Experimental black metal, apparently, although this is an acoustic guitar being played in a sort of remixed way. Probably too experimental.

    6. Manowar - "Dark Avenger"
Another one of those bands I've always been meaning to hear. Manowar are often said to come with a heavy helping of cheese, and the opening riff here is precisely that. The vocals are an extra helping thereof, I think.
This is exceptionally silly stuff, as a lot of classic metal really is if you're listening to it carefully. It doesn't seem to move very rapidly, either, although I can hear enough here to make it worth my while to listen to a bit more of this band.

    7. Cor Scorpii - "Transcendental Journey"
I seem to recall coming across an interlude of theirs some months ago, so it's good to get a full track. This was the band which the keyboardist of Windir kept as a side-project, before unleashing it after Valfar's untimely death. There's a considerable similarity to the more well-known Windir, but the coldness of the vocals (which are decipherable and in English) are a very different touch. I quite like what I'm hearing here.

    8. Shoosh - "Elastic Soil"
Apparently an ambient folk band, whatever the hell that means to anyone. The music itself isn't too bad, although it seems to be played backwards. The vocals, however, have a similar effect on them and sound horrible. I certainly don't want to hear this again.

    9. Age of Silence - "I No Longer Know If I Am Mad"
A Norwegian progressive/black metal supergroup, of which there are several hundred. This sounds a bit like an interlude, but given the experimental background of the band, it may be a full song. It doesn't grab me much, though.

    10. Dahlia's Tear - "4th Sky Convergence and Pointless"
Dark ambient, apparently, so "pointless" may be close to the truth (he says snarkily). As with most of the music in that style, it takes forever to do very little.

i'm very happy to be born in a year.

how easy i've been flowing. i only do what anyone can do.
why i want to praise Muse has a reason. because of their web-site. if anyone don't have any experience to buy or go to their show, can listen their songs full. And absolutely radiohead and NIN are fantastic too if i didn't download them.i like herand sheemily play i cannot remember why picked them up to write but it's true i like them 中川翔子FlyleafUnknownNine Inch NailsMuseSaul WilliamsDahlia's TearInsaneGenius
yesterday in my dream i was forced to be a patriot and i thought a bit that only for the fact that i'm now writing in English means selling my soul( i don't have already) to stronger???? ones(why i am doing it so was to get to know something). and i don't need to like all of them would guarantee me a happiness. and there were an apartment of having cells have pink doors for children only to confine in a while to blame their faults.

it's not about a bad thing cannot love/like anyone now. feeling nothing is also nice.

Certainly, this computer is addictive but i never be fit to learn its science and how it is working. this is what i've learnt most. i'm now very looking behind of my way how i could be modern like you can see this, yet i want to go back faster to a broken typewriter when i saw before also at the time it's no longer deemed as useful for every work place.

  • Welcome

    Nov 26 2007, 4h01 por StuckInOrbit

Ahh... delayed welcome message to all who have joined this group!

Autumn quickly faded here in northern Wisconsin and the cold winds of the great lakes are upon this tiny island. This evening I stepped outside to gather firewood and took a moment to enjoy the nearly full moon as it was hidden and then revealed by quickly moving clouds. The view was superb as I was staring up at it through leafless trees leaning and creaking in the high winds.

I'm highly anticipating the new album from Dahlia's Tear entitled Under Seven Skies. Not exactly sure what happened to this as it was supposed to be unleashed to us on the 18th and apparently never was.

I ordered the new Taphephobia from Reverse Alignment the other day and am anxiously awaiting its arrival.

Well, with the winter nearly upon me (and possibly you all too) I am hoping to have some more free time to spend working on some projects, this LFM group being one of them.

On another note, if you have not yet found this, I would recommend taking a look at the LFM Open Mind Index. Very interesting statistics about your tagging habits and also a nice code snippet to pop into your LFM profile.

I recently was married and signed up for a Facebook account so I could access some of the photographs that were being maintained on a friends profile. Not sure if any of you are members there or not, but if so i'd like to be added to your friends list. If so, my email is scott@scottreedtechnicalservices.com

    Darkest regards,
    Scott
