1. Biomechanical - "Assaulter"
Vaguely progressive, but exceptionally boring.

2. Miguel Poveda - "Alfileres De Colores"
Some flamenco again. This guy's got a very husky voice in comparison to the rest of the flamenco I've heard, but still bla.

3. Dagda - "Criost Liom"
The chillout/New Age band by this name, here. Quite pleasant female vocals, but there's just nothing extra special about the whole thing.

4. Loreena Mckennit - "Bonny Portmore"
Another pleasant voice, but with nothing special going on behind it.

5. Nick & Simon - "Steeds Weer"
Dutch pop. The two vocalists have very nice voices, and the melody works quite well. It's just not going to stick with me in a moment.

6. Jan Smit - "Als de morgen is gekomen"
More Dutch pop, and from the same compilation to boot. This is much more enjoyable, and in fact feels like your classic Schlager. Have the Dutch really not moved beyond that stage? Regardless, it's fun.

7. Strapping Young Lad - "Love?"
A well-known band, and one I should probably have heard by now. Unfortunately, they sound too much like Nevermore for me to like them.

8. Martires del compas - "Juana Peña"
Seemingly a flamenco fusion track, but I can't get into it. The vocals don't work for me.

9. Tannusheim - "Wundenschmiede"
German pagan metal, once again, and with a stronger guitar tone than the norm. The vocals, though, are mixed too far down to be of use to anyone.

10. Julia Savicheva - "Легкие (Navigator Remix)"
She doesn't sound too bad singing in her native Russian, although the mixing here seems to have done something weird to her vocals, which seem buried a bit. Catchy song, though.

Ich war schon länger mal auf der Suche nach Traditioneller Instrumental Musik. Sehr gerne Japanisch udn Asiatischen raum, aber auch Celtic und Irish.

Dabei endeckte ich auf zufall Kitaround war prommt von seiner Musik verzaubert.

Über ähnliche Gruppen bin ich dann auch auf Dagda, Medwyn Goodall und Sacred Spirit gestossen, die mir ebenfalls sehr gefallen.

Da wird demnächst noch Geld ausgeben für einige Alben.

Bonjour, aujourd'hui je vais vous parler d'un genre de musique que j'affectionne tout particulierement, c'est a dire ce que j'appelle les Enigma-like. Tout d'abord une petite introduction, honteusement reprise de Wikipedia-fr.

Au départ, un projet musical, créé par Michael Cretu en 1990 et dans lequel participe activement Franck Peterson,son collaborateur-assistant et sa femme Sandra Cretu depuis le début. Franck Peterson était compositeur et producteur mais n'a participé qu'au premier single. Michael est lui aussi compositeur et producteur tandis que Sandra prête sa voix dans plusieurs titres.

Enigma s'est fait connaître par son premier album où les chants grégoriens (MCMXC a.D.) étaient omniprésents. Depuis ont aussi été utilisés des instruments originaires de l'Orient (The Cross of Changes, Le Roi est Mort Vive Le Roi) ainsi que des sons eléctroniques plus modernes (Screen Behind the Mirror, Voyageur). Le premier succès commercial est venu du single « Sadness », où les chants grégoriens se juxtaposaient à un rythme et des voix très sensuelles ; une grande partie de la musique appelée New Age (ou encore Mood music) s'inspire d'ailleurs de ce premier album. Le deuxième titre le plus connu d'Enigma est certainement « Return to Innocence » dont le clip vidéo est mémorable pour son idée originale : le suivi de la vie d'une personne à l'envers, de sa mort à sa naissance.

Michael Cretu a su produire une musique de grande qualité et très diverse dans tous ses albums, jusqu'au dernier, plus électronique que les précédents, Voyageur. Chaque album comporte une introduction immédiatement reconnaissable suivie d'une voix féminine qui vous invite à un nouveau voyage.

La musique d'Enigma s'attaque à différents sujets comme la sexualité (très présente, surtout dans MCMXC a.D.), l'amour, la foi en Dieu ("Morphing thru times") et l'innocence. Michael décrit sa musique comme sexuelle, pas sensuelle, ce qui est effectivement très différent.

Maintenant que vous situez bien le genre de musique que peut etre enigma, voici quelques artistes que j'apprecie enormement se rapprochant de ce courrant musical. J'espere que vous y ferez quelques decouvertes qui vous plairerons (oula est ce seulement francais ca? )

A tout seigneur, tout honneur, l'un des grands groupes du genre est Gregorian "Master of Chant", qui combinent les chants clérical avec de la musique pop d’hier et d’aujourd’hui ! (...) Les albums « Master of Chant » Chapitre I-IV ont reçu des disques en or et en platine, plus de 3 millions d’exemplaires ont été vendus. Chapitre V consiste de hits de Green Day, Deep Purple, David Bowie, Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, et beaucoup d’autres. Les albums de Gregorian ensorcèle jeune et vieux et permet au public d’entrer un mode magique, mystique et plein de fascination.

Une autre pointure du genre est Era : Groupe francais, trois albums a leur actif, ils melangent choeurs d'opera avec musique symphonique, sons pop voir meme rock pour certains morceaux. Ils ont notemment travailler sur la bande son des Visiteurs (deux morceaux).

Toujours dans le tres connu, Delerium: Delerium est le fruit du travail d'un canadien, Bill Leeb, qui est issu de la scène Techno/Industrielle de Vancouver (Skinny Puppy et Cie). Au départ un projet parallèle de Bill Leeb de Front Line Assembly, Delerium devint tôt encore bien plus populaire que sa formation principale. Ce succès vint surtout du fait de l'inclusion de plusieurs pièces de Delerium au sein de trames sonores de grosses productions d'Hollywood. Le projet a plu au grand public.

D'autres francais ont surfé sur la vague du succes d'enigma, c'est le cas de Deep Forest: A la fin de 1991, deux musiciens originaires de la région de Douai, dans le nord de la France, Michel Sanchez et Eric Mouquet, ont l'idée de transformer de rares mélodies pygmées et mélanésiennes en titres "dance". Habitués des studios d'enregistrement et adeptes des prestigieuses collections de disques ethniques (Ocora ou le Musée de l'Homme), Michel Sanchez a gardé le souvenir entêtant de polyphonies pygmées de Centrafrique, collectées par l'ethnomusicologue Shima Aaron, et de chants réunis aux îles Salomon par des chercheurs du Musée de l'Homme de Paris. Le travail de Deep Forest consiste alors, non pas simplement à fusionner les genres, mais à recomposer ce qu'ils avaient déjà samplé (échantillonné) autour des voix et des mélodies. Des rythmes dance, ils ne gardent que les ambiances au synthétiseur, les boucles de batterie mais aussi le mouvement lancinant de la ligne de basse.

Deja nettemment moins connu, le groupe Dagda est une exellente Surprise : Ils melangent des sons electro avec divers ancients instruments pour rendre le tout tres celtique. La melodie est envoutante, energique et un réel succes.

Autre belle decouverte, Conjure One: c'est un projet de production canadien de world-beat créé en 1999 par RHYS FULBER (production, né le 10/10/1970 à Vancouver). Le premier album est une reussite, avec notemment Tears From the Moon chanté par la tres charismatique Sinead O'Connor.

Meme la belgique a son Enigma-like, en effet le groupe Urban Trad a relevé le defi et a proposé une musique envoutante, melant celtique et sons plus actuel, chanté dans une langue qu'ils ont eux meme inventé. A noter que ce groupe a representé la belgique a L'eurovison et a terminé a une tres honnorable deuxieme place.

Bien d'autre groupes existent dans cette mouvance, citons par exemple Solyma, Lesiëm, Pilgrimage, Mythos, Diane Arkenstone, et j'en passe.

L'une des meilleurs facon d'aborder le genre reste encore de se procurer cette exelllente serie de compilation allemande (9 cds et un double best of) Mystera, mais je ne sais pas si elle est disponible a la vente en France (je sais que j'ai du aller en allemagne pour me l'achetter). Elle comporte les meilleurs morceaux du genre, et pas mal de petite perles de groupes moins connu.
