Mixtape: Chocolate Grinder 20 - "Cornbread, ain’t nothin’ wrong with that"
Out 5 2009, 17h38 por FilmoreHolmes

Alan Ranta sez:
I may be an insufferably white dork from Canada, but I likes me a good broken beat. The odd vocalization of nostalgic pondering or social protest is icing on that bass-laden cake. This here mix tape is the nasty bidnezz, starting off with some more ambient, glitchy numbers before progressing to raucous old-school-flavored beats and booty-shaking breaks, with a righteous rant from future superstar B. Dolan that you will not soon forget. However, if you’re looking for guns, bitches, and bling, you are probably talking to the wrong corn-fed honkey.

Seen Live
Jun 15 2009, 3h58 por ZShevich
The following is a list of bands I've seen perform live (or at least the ones I can remember). I'm adding notes but at the very bottom I'll just do a good old list later.
-Wilco w/ opener Yo La Tengo on July 13th, 2009 at Keyspan Park
I'm going with Chris Lo, Jack Friedman, Dylan, and Steph Yotka so this hasn't happened yet...but I'm excited!
--Grizzly Bear at The Trocadero in Philadelphia (on June 2nd w/ opener Here We Go Magic)
Saw it with Niall, Blondell, Rainer and two of his friends. Great show, the lighting was really cool. This was my introduction to Here We Go Magic. The best songs were probably Little Brother (Electric),
Shift, and Southern Point. Also, Grizzly Bear brought out the lead singer of Beach House to help them perform Two Weeks. Pretty sick.
--Animal Collective w/ opening act Grouper on May 12th, 2009 at The Electric Factory
I went with Logan after the two of us ate brownies. We missed the opening act but got there before AC was on, and met his friend Jake. Animal Collective started and then Niall, who was waiting for Chelsea Williams, ended up coming to the show with Aashima. I wish the brownies kicked in during the show because the experience was so odd and I just felt so sober and not ready for it. Cool show though. They played almost all of Merriweather Post Pavillion.
**Spring Jam in the DAC (Drexel's gym) w/ Lupe Fiasco and Girl Talk on May 9th, 2009!!
Rainer was DJing between Girl Talk's set and Lupe's. The venue was hot as hell (Lupe threw a lot of water into the crowd and ended up taking off his shirt during the 2nd half of the performance because it was so hot in there), and allthough Girl Talk's set was kinda weak (at least compared to [event=]All Points West[/event]) Lupe was RIDICULOUS, he was rocking out and obviously has gotten better live since I last saw him.
--Del tha Funkee Homosapien at the First Unitarian Church on May 3rd, 2009 w/ openers Bukue One, Mike Relm and Serendipity Project
I went with Logan and Niall, met up with Chattin and some of his friends at the venue. It was a pretty awesome show. Opening acts were all fun but nothing too great (Mike Relm's VJaying was interesting, I hadn't really seen that before, but I feel like his recorded stuff wouldn't be good). And of course, Del was cool but he was on stage with A-Plus who talked too much and wanted too much attention.
--Drexel's Battle of the Bands w/ Wyldlyfe, Chiddy Bang, The Summer Circuit, and Seven Grand in Nesbitt 111 on April 24th, 2009.
Logan, Niall and I went together, met up with Popyack, Dao, Aashima, and Sarah there. I also saw a bunch of the WKDU guys coming out to support Chiddy Bang. This Chiddy Bang performance was much better than the last I saw from them, probably just because the acoustics were much better. The first band, Wyldlyfe sounded great live although I wasn't a fan of the recorded stuff I could find. Did they cover Here I Come? Also, I first became of The Summer Circuit here, and Chris Gordon ended up appearing on my radio show (he's a cool guy, and I dig the music). I left during Seven Grand, me, Niall, and Logan had enough of the night (there were two other performers who weren't worth mentioning).
--Drexel Homecoming with Chiddy Bang, G-Eazy, DJ Jazzy Jeff, and Mike Jones on January 24th, 2009 in the Drexel Armory
Will came down for this. We went with Dan (who I smoked a bit with before hehe) and some others from the Drexel gang. Chiddy Bang was awesome even though they performed like...three songs. DJ Jazzy Jeff came out next and performed the first part of his set which was like an awesome dance party, then G-Eazy was up and was nearly booed off stage (for good reason, he may have become my least favorite artist ever that night). DJ Jazzy Jeff's second set was even better, and there was a part where he transitioned from
Paper Planes to Swagger Like US which was just the SICKEST. Finally, Mike Jones was on and since he's generally speaking a bad rapper, he didn't end up doing anything interesting. My group left halfway through his awful set. Oh, and his name is Mike Jones, btw. He'll want you to remind him.
--Coldplay at Madison Square Garden on June 23rd, 2008
It wasn't the greatest show but Jai took me (with two of his Dad's 30-something Indian friends) and it was the free concert. We (or at least I) got REALLY drunk before the show, which always makes concerts more fun, so I got to enjoy the night even though Coldplay mostly played stuff off Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends, which I don't love. I do remember Lost being quite epic though. They opened
Life In Technicolor, perhaps my favorite song off the CD and of course
Viva La Vida was great fun.
**Lupe Fiasco w/ Matthew Santos at SOBs on May 14th, 2008
Jai and I went (because Cree-Lo backed out) and even though my fake ID was shitty, they let me in. The venue only holds a couple hundred so it was really intimate and cool to watch so closely. I flirted with an older hot black chick (after making her spill a bit of her cosmo). Matthew Santos opened and played some songs with Lupe Fiasco, but spent most of his time chilling in the crowd. Lupe brought out his gold record that night, it was really cool.
--Louis XIV w/ openers What Made Milwaukee Famous and Carolina Liar at The Fillmore (Irving Plaza) on March 14th, 2008
I went to this with Sarah, Cat, and Barak. I think we missed Carolina Liar (Barak and I had trouble finding the venue) but got there to enjoy What Made Milwaukee Famous although I don't like them recorded as much as I did live. Louis XIV was really weird and while some songs were pretty cool, for the most part it just wasn't my scene and we left before the encore.
**Muse w/ opening act Cold War Kids at Madison Square Garden on August 6th, 2007
I really got into Cold War Kids after they opened here but the Muse part of the concert was insane! Being next to the mosh pit with Carolyn may have been the best concert experience I've ever had. Muse is SOO GOOD live.
--OK Go at Jones Beach on June 27th, 2007.
The headliner was The Fray (rolls eyes...) but they didn't play because of the AWFUL rain. We got soaked! The opening artist was Mae (which was a strange pairing for this concert) but we only caught like two of their songs. I went with Karen, Sarah, Barak, and Aarshiya the night before I left for Japan.
--Radiohead at Madison Square Garden on June 14th, 2006
This was before I really understood or loved Radiohead so I was standing there confused for the most part. Jai took me and we also went with Will. I remember them playing
15 Step and not being able to follow but I also remember the absolutely epic 2nd encore featuring
Just AND
The Tourist. I'm pretty sure this was also the night (or maybe two nights) before I had to take my Spanish final... haha! I wish I had seen this show after developing my appreciation for Radiohead.
** = my favorite shows
Ones I haven't organized yet:
-OK Go at the TLA
I went with Sarah and Cat.
-Eric Clapton at MSG
Jai took me.
-Coldplay (the first time at MSG)
Did I just go to this with Jai?
-[event=]All Points West '08 - Friday night[/event] Grizzly Bear CSS Andrew Bird Girl Talk Radiohead
-Cold War Kids (at the TLA w/ Niall, Niall's friend Dave, and Ari)
**Arctic Monkeys (w/ Dylan and Shir)
**The Swell Season (w/ Carolyn)
-Justin Timberlake's FutureSex/LoveShow at MSG (the 2nd night, HBO taping)
-Stereophonics
**Chad Perrone at the Paradise Rock Club on June 20th, 2008.
-The Fratellis w/ openers The Airborne Toxic Event and Electric Touch
Both Jesses and Sarah were there.
-Snow Patrol and opening act OK Go
I went with Carolyn. -
