DER ZIBET was formed in 1984. Its founding members were vocalist ISSAY and bassist HAL, who knew each other from their previous band, ISSAY and SUICIDES. The rest of the band included HIKARU on guitars, MAYUMI on drums and MAHITO on keyboards. MAHITO was in the band since the beginning, but in 1985 he decided to leave, though he kept on performing with DER ZIBET as a support musician. Now, MAHITO is once again a full member of the band.

A year after the band’s formation, DER ZIBET went major. Their first release was a single entitled Matsu uta and before the year ended they also released their first album, Violetter Ball. In 1986, their only release was the single Girls radical dance mix on vinyl.

In 1987 DER ZIBET released their second album, Electric Moon and a single called Baby, I love you. The following year was even more successful, witnessing the release of a concert VHS, their most popular single to date, Only you only love and two albums, DER ZIBET and Garden. Garden was recorded in London, and as a result, DER ZIBET’s stay was documented on the video DER ZIBET IN GARDEN.

The following few years saw the releases of various singles and albums, including Homo demens, the cover of which featured ISSAY nude. Around this time, the band changed their label from SIXTY RECORDS to COLUMBIA TRIAD.

Doesnt have to be a guitar solo. Every lead instrument is fine. I enjoyed the violin solo on White Flower or the keyboard solos.

Ah, you and your guitar solos :) Sure, it ain't nothing like Primitive but it's cool for what it is.

I thought it was pure goth (because of the cover). Its none of that. The guitar solo's are kinda pathetic in comparison to Primitive. There are a few good songs here and there, but i still prefer Primitive.

Loving the new album. Some of the coolest, catchiest songs of theirs I've heard.

the Romanoids are FUCKING AMAZING 8D and Angeltearx, it was intentional that these albuns would focus more on Issay. Hikaru once told in a interview that with these new albuns he wanted to show an "even more glam Issay". basically, these albuns are more Issay's than Der zibet's, such thing can be proven by the covers of the albuns, how Issay is the focus of them. it's an old characteristic from this band, since they have different influences :3 like Homo Demens and the other twin albuns also have Issay in the cover and the style of the songs are alike with the Romanoids. damn, this is getting huge,

Just listened to Romanoid and its an nice album with a very varied sound. Some songs have some nice melody and atmosphere. I was disapointed to hear that they toned down the guitar solo's. There are almost no solo's, and all the solo's are short compared to the ones of Primitive. ALSO: I bought the album on Itunes but Sad Sail doesnt work for me, it quits in the middle of the song. Can someone help me out with that?

The reason i listen to Der Zibet is because they combine dissonant and noice like guitarsolo's with catchy pop / rock vocals. Thats why i wasnt a huge fan of Popmania. Primitive however offers both; catchyness and pop (although you can say their music is alternative rock) and weird guitar solo's :). And Romanoid one is part of a trilogy. At least thats what i read. I havent had time to check it out, but the samples sounded great. If Romanoid 2 and 3 are going to be same quality, then i cannot wait to hear them :). Nice to see Der Zibet being active again. Im not a huge fan of them, but i discovered them 1,5 years ago and i enjoy them.

Shall check those out! Thanks! I was worried that early stuff would be too unpolished, and later stuff would be super generic altrock or whatever so I was hesitant as hell with where to start.

I only listened to a few albums. Shishunki had a few nice songs (Masquerade obviously, and Chocolate Dream and Swing in Heaven) and Pop Mania. But Pop Mania obviously has a pop feeling, and doenst have a lot of interesting songs. Unless you want catchy pop, i wouldnt try it out. Primitive is a great album overal imo. And i heard alot of positive comments about Romanoid.

What would people consider the best album from these guys? Both coming from a post-punk/goth/new wave/glam/whatever perspective AND just in general? Their discography is rather daunting!
