The missis has described the style of electro that I play as "Boys Noise" (Partly from the artist "Boys Noize") so much, that my head has almost started treating it as a genuine sub-genre.

It's probably worth noting that she's used it as a somewhat derogatory term suggesting that the music isn't very 'dancing' friendly or popular with women and is lacking in melody.


Proxy - Dance In The Dark

Boys Noise is characterised by harsh, distorted, often unfiltered bass or lead-synths, and computerized electro drum sounds. Whilst frequently the tracks are rooted in the new wave of French electro and electro-house they don't have to be and can include breaks or electro, hip-hop styled tracks. Distorted electric guitar samples or sequences are also quite common as is the chopping or slicing of the track to create breaks or drops.


D.I.M. - Is You

The overall sound is brash and noisy, sometimes creating walls of distorted sound or tearing riffs not dissimilar to that of heavy rock or metal instrumentation. The vibe of the dance-floor also has similarities to rock music with pogo-ing and arms-in-the-air very common.

Yes...it's October already, packed month, tons of events involving Artificial Intelligence, Tayo, DJ Lee, London Elektricity, Tes La Rok, Benga, Dillinja, Krazy Baldhead, Beat Assassins, Fort Knox Five (to list just the ones I'm 100% interested in). We (Dubstep.ro, Yazee, Fabrica) are also proud to be part of the autumn's welcome comitee preparing a "first" for Romania on 24th of October, this coming after, what I consider a big success, the party on 19th of September, Can You DUBstep? with boc (Forecast, Bassism - Hungary) headlining. Big thanks to everyone who was there, it was a hell of a show. This keeps us going and I'm telling you, there's much more where that came from.
The next event is a milestone for us and to get personal, the headliner is one of my favourite artists since I started listening to bass music a couple of years ago. I hope this project, the main ideea of this event and of course last but not least, the music will get to you folks as much as it got to me. On one hand Can You SUBstep? is gonna be a first for Bucharest from 2 points of view (which I'll let you figure out yourselves next week when we get the full line-up on the site), on the other hand it's gonna work as a time machine for the people rooted in this scene for some years now, because the supporting line-up, I promise, won't be a common one. 24th of October people. SWIVEL!
Concerning the tune list for this month, the last 4-5 weeks were a total mess for me from every single point of view, so I found myself in the position of not having the time even to listen to new music. This month's 20 is going to be a bit of a challenge for me. My school puts on open mic nights where people go to perform and watch the show. Most people play guitar or read poetry and a lot of them are really good. I let everyone else go before me because I knew I'd go long and I wanted everyone to get their chance to go on.

Fortunately, it all worked out and I helped end the night with lots of people dancing. I recorded the mix for you all to enjoy too. I haven't touched it up at all, so please excuse the imperfections.
