  • The new face of black metal

    Dez 7 2009, 1h23 por The_Night_Head

They said it couldnt be done, they said it was impossible, they said you'd be crazy to even try, but one band has finally done it. One band, Agathodaimon, have finally achieved the unimaginable. The first band to crack the mystery that has confounded musicians across the world for centuries now. They are the first band to flawlessly combine the once incompatible genres of pop and black metal, into one superior art form.

Drawing influences from the timeless greats (Burzum, Darkthrone, Immortal and more), infused with refreshing stylish helpings of 21st century pop, they surpass all predecessors with their extensive discography loaded with masterpiece after masterpiece.Their latest album, Phoenix, caused an earthquake in the black metal scene when it hit the shelves earlier this year, and since then has been flying off them quicker than you can count. I suggest you all go and download them, or better yet pick yourselves up a copy. You dont want to miss the chance to hear is what is quite possibly the most groundbreaking, progressive music to ever grace the earth.

    Dez 5 2009, 14h41 por Lady_Elisabetha

What was the first album you ever purchased with your own money?
I can’t remember, it probably was a single or an EP. But my very first CD was Dangerous by Michael Jackson.

If you could only have 10 CDs for the remainder of your life, what would they be?
    Phew... (No „Charts“)
    1. Dark Sanctuary – Les Mémoires Blessées
    2. Grendel – Harsh Generation
    3. Various Artists – Extreme Sündenfall Vol. 6
    4. Combichrist – Today We Are All Demons
    5. Combichrist – Everybody Hates You
    6. Children Of Bodom – Something Wild
    7. [x]-Rx – Unmöglich Erregend
    8. [x]-Rx – Stage 2
    9. Noisuf-X – The Beauty Of Destruction
    10. A self-made sampler with loads of my favourite songs.

Name a song you can flawlessly sing all of the lyrics to by memory.
Only one? As a singer I have to learn loads of lyrics. ;)

What is the one album you bought with your own money--and which you still own--of which you are most ashamed?
I’m not ashamed of any album I own. If I would be, I wouldn’t have bought it.

Name any rare recordings you own.
Michael Jackson – Ghosts (DVD & CD), Tagismâr – Oder der (Alp)Traum, mal anders zu sein, Eco – Gier, Hass Und Liebe to name a few...

What was the first live concert you ever attended? Can you remember the opening act?
The Kelly Family. No opening act.

If you could have a gross of one CD to give away to friends, relatives, co-workers, and/or strangers, what would it be?
Depends on the person but it would probably a CD by Sido or Bushido.

If you could make all copies of any one album disappear from the face of the earth, what album would that be?
All albums by Tokio Hotel :P

Approximately how many cd's do you own? (not burned copies)
According to musik-sammler.de I have about 734 CDs and I didn’t even write all of them down yet...

Approximately how many LPs do you own?
    No LPs

Approximately how many 45 rpm records do you own?
    None

Approximately how many 8-track tapes do you own?
    No

Do you have a working turntable?
    Nope

Do you have a working stereo cassette deck?
    Yes.

Do you have a working 8-track deck?
    Nö

Do you own any quadraphonic LPs or 8-track tapes?
    Nope

Name any artists of whom you own their entire catalogs.
Children Of Bodom, Combichrist, Goethes Erben, Sopor Aeternus & The Ensemble of Shadows, Blutengel (with singles *yay*), Agonoize, Ashbury Heights... to name a few

What is your all-time favorite album cover?
Cradle of Filth – Bitter Suites to Succubi

Do you own any opera recordings?
Yes, Die Lustigen Weiber von Windsor, der Freischütz, Die Zauberflöte and many more.

Explain, in 25 words or fewer, why recorded music is important to you.
Music is what kept me alive for now more than 24 years. Music heals every wound a person is not able to mend. (23 words)

Do you keep your cd's in their cases or in a book?
In a book. Or better in two books.

Do you think cd's are overpriced?
Some are, yes. And I don’t like artists who release an album and 6 months later they release a „special edition“ with bonus tracks fort he same prize as the first album was.

Do you have any artist or musician posters?
Yes, Dani Filth, Tarja Turunen, Combichrist a few film posters and pics of Jeff Hardy <3

    Do you wear band shirts?
Yes, I usually buy them at concerts.

Where do you usually buy your music?
I used to buy it in the city but now I buy them at Media Markt or in the internet (iTunes, Cede.ch, Gothic-Shopper.de or from the artist himself at Myspace).

  • Why I Stopped Using Pandora

    Nov 30 2009, 9h40 por wingkon

So, some people complain about the comparisons that Last.fm makes. Well check this out. Here are a few ridiculous comparisons Pandora made. I don't know if they changed them yet or not, but here are a few that I've seen. I'll add more. Feel free to contribute, if you've noticed anything like this on Pandora.

    Arch Enemy and Pantera
    Atreyu and Rise Against
Bullet For My Valentine and Rise Against
Bullet For My Valentine and Breaking Benjamin
Cradle of Filth and Children of Bodom
Cradle of Filth and Arch Enemy
    Dido and Enya
    Disturbed and Linkin Park
    Emilie Autumn and Within Temptation
    Emilie Autumn and Nightwish
Eths and As I Lay Dying
    Eths and Atreyu
    Evanescence and Seether
    Evanescence and Linkin Park
    Evanescence and 3 Doors Down
    Evanescence and Three Days Grace
    Lacuna Coil and Flyleaf
    Lacuna Coil and Fireflight
    Lacuna Coil and Breaking Benjamin
    Metallica and Guns N' Roses
Kittie and System of a Down
    Kittie and Flyleaf
    Metallica and AC/DC
    Opeth and In Flames
Otep and System of a Down
    Pantera and Rob Zombie
    Pantera and Alice in Chains
    Pantera and Tool
    Twisted Sister and Metallica

    A few trends I've noticed:
Many metal bands comapred to Tool and A Perfect Circle
Many melodic death metal or metalcore bands compared to In Flames.
Pretty much every metalcore band comapred to Killswitch Engage, All That Remains or As I Lay Dying
Any nu-metal, and a other types are compared to Slipknot, Korn or Mudvayne
Any female fronted gothic/symphonic is compared to Within Temptation and Nightwish
Most hard rock bands compared to Breaking Benjamin
And thrash metal compared to Metallica or Megadeth
And female fronted pop-country compared to Taylor Swift or Carrie Underwood

I could go on and on...

  • Amon Amarth - 28th Nov. '09

    Nov 29 2009, 6h34 por kensai_D

Sat 28 Nov – Amon Amarth

    Awesome.

That's usually a good start to a review, and thus it is how I will start this one. It... Was... Awesome. 8:00 the doors opened, giving us all half an hour to grab our merchandise and prepare for the Vikings to command us and lead us into battle... But that's not what happened, instead we walked in and were greeted with the first supporting act of the night, Eye of the Enemy... Now, don't get me wrong, I do have a broad range of musical tastes (especially when it comes to metal) but I really had trouble getting into this. Although they were the first act, I think it's safe to say that most people there didn't think much of them. The mosh remained still, those of us in the mid-section remained still and those further back were even more motionless. The tuning and organising of the sound led to the vocalist being practically impossible to hear, leaving just the guitars and drums to give is the impressions of what they had to offer. However, most every song sounded the same and, overall, I found these guys fairly disappointing, especially when compared to Cradle of Filth's first support (Naetu) when they were in Sydney... Was this to be our modern sign of the coming storm? Well... No.

After the 15 minute intermission, Bane of isildur (which I still have trouble pronouncing) made their way onto the stage and fixed everything that was wrong with the previous act. The vocals, the costumes, the performance, the music, the energy... Everything just suited the feel of the night and was truly preparing us for what was to come as they eagerly led us without fear into the main act of the night. I don't have much else to add about these guys except that they were really good and definitely worth checking out if you're a fan of Amon Amarth or the like, last.fm offers free downloads so it is worth your time.

30 minutes passed. 30 silent minutes of waiting, they felt like an hour. The crowd was eager to get started, and suddenly the lights went dim. An instrumental/orchestral track began playing, the lights started to come on then silence. Music stopped. Lights went out. Darkness. Nothing to hear but the crowd, but even the roars of excitement were silenced out of fear when the riffs of Twilight of the Thunder God began. The entire theatre was filled with Johan's vocals coming from each and every person there. Johan made great interaction with the crowd, consistently questioning and performing. Combining light-hearted humour to settle our nerves, once we were calm, Amon led us on one hell of a victorious march, going through some of the best songs that they've released.

The set-list (please bear in mind I am writing this from memory)

    Twilight of the Thunder God
    Free Will Sacrifice
    Valkyries Ride
    Bleed for Ancient Gods
    Varyags of Miklagaard
    Where Silent Gods Stand Guard
    Tattered Banners and Bloody Flags
    Runes to my Memory
    Asator
    Victorious March
    Live for the Kill
    Death in Fire

Amon Amarth left the stage, the crowd drew them back, as to be expected, and they closed the set with

    Cry of the Black Birds
    Pursuit of Vikings

(I apologise if this is not the correct order, these were the songs in the show however, but if anyone would like to correct me, please do and I'll make the relevant changes)

Overall, Johan's interaction with the audience, the bands' clear passion for what they do and the atmosphere and sound just culminated into one hell of a concert. This review may be generic, or sound biased, but the concert was brilliant and, if ever they come back, I'll be there and I hope you will too. They truly are the masters of war.

  • I have a dream

    Nov 29 2009, 3h22 por The_Night_Head

I have a dream that one day metal elitists will take their heads out their arses, and realise taste is purely subjective, such that "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all genres are created equal."

I have a dream that one day on the grim frostbitten hills of Norway, the black metalheads and the gangsta rappers will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.

I have a dream that one day even Gothenburg, a place sweltering with shitty melodeath, and rife with generic sellouts, will be transformed into an oasis of progressive soul nurturing music.

I have a dream where bands will not be judged by how 'catchy their riffs are' but by how well they accomplish what they set out to do.

    2. Amy Winehouse - nie mam pojęcia. XD Prawdopodobnie będzie to TocarYou Know I'm No Good, aczkolwiek nie mogę być pewny. Pamiętam, że na początku nie podobała Mi się jej muzyka, nie wiem czemu..
    3. Lamb - zdecydowanie Heaven, z tej racji, że należy do ost Six Feet Under (skąd zresztą znam Lamb).
    4. Cradle of Filth - Nymphetamine i nie wiem, czemu tak dużo ludzi go nie lubi..
    5. Apocalyptica - 17.
    6. Lacuna Coil - jakby Mnie ktoś spytał, to powiedziałbym, że TocarHeaven's a Lie, ale tylko dlatego, że TocarEnjoy the Silence to cover ;>
7.The Dresden Dolls - tak, TocarHalf Jack.
    10. Portishead - zero jakichś nadzwyczajnych wspomnień, czy przeżyć...
    11. The Knife - nie :<
    12. o.n.a. - TAK! I nigdy się to nie spełni T_T
    13. Marilyn Manson, a dokładniej Brian Hugh Warner <3
