Converge is a four-piece band based out of Salem, Massachusetts. Playing a blend of hardcore punk and extreme metal since 1990, this pioneering punk/metal outfit helped define many of the necessities for the metalcore genre’s development.
Converge’s influences range from hardcore punk bands, such as Black Flag, Negative Approach, The Accused and Born Against; metal bands like Black Sabbath, Godflesh, Slayer, and Entombed; and proto-metalcore bands Starkweather and Rorschach. Jacob Bannon’s lyrics tend to deal almost exclusively with romantic relationships gone awry, based on a male’s perspective, until the release of their 2006 album No Heroes, in which topics vary. Bannon usually uses a harsh vocal style of shouts and screams, although there are exceptions, such as in the song “Albatross.” The group’s musical style consists of complex guitar work and off-time polyrhythmic drumming, which leads some to classify them as math metal, which is best exemplified on their album Jane Doe.

The only part I'm able to catch on to is the part that's sung, and then the epic last lines, "Run on. Run on." I've been listening to this album nonstop though. I think some of the draw of the album is that intensity in the vocals. You really have to pay attention. Glass and Ashes (another amazing hardcore/screamo band that everyone needs to check out) was the same way for me. Their lyrics are mindblowing, and they're fun to scream along to once you catch on.

They're pretty good musically and vocally, and the lyrics are good from what I've read online. How do you follow along to them? Is it not possibly or do you just have to listen a lot to start to pick up on them? I'm referring to Jane Doe by the way, as that's all I have right now.
