Em 1996 Scooter Ward (vocalista), Sam McCandless (bateria), Jeremy Marshall (baixo) e Matt Loughran (guitarra) criaram a banda Grundig na cidade Jacksonville. Na esperança de alcançarem sucesso mudaram-se para Atlanta e mudaram o nome da banda para Cold. Durante a estadia em Atlanta o guitarrista Matt Loughran deixou a banda e foi substituído por Sean Lay e mais tarde Kelly Hayes também se juntou à banda.

Os som dos Cold está inserido num panorama post-grunge, hard rock e metal alternativo, que chamou a atenção de Fred Drust, vocalista dos Limp Bizkit, que convidou Ward para gravar dois demos acústicos. Ross Robinson, produtor, gostou do que ouviu e proporcionou-lhes a oportunidade de gravarem o seu álbum de estreia, o homónimo, Cold lançado em 1998 pela A&M Records.

Em 2000 lançam o seu segundo álbum, 13 Ways To Bleed On Stage, o guitarrista Sean Lay deixa a banda e é substituído por Terry Balsamo.

I don't dislike stupid girl, it just pisses me off that thats number 1 when there are so many much better songs with more depth and musical talent than that pop hit....was no one else but me a fan since their very first album? Where is "Go Away" on the top list?!, or any of the other songs off their first album? All I see is mostly Year of the Spider which of course STUPID GIRL was on so I'm guessing everyone started listening at that point huh?....

Sadly, because it was the one song from their record that make it into the Billboard Top 100 and sometimes that's all people are away of when it comes to music...but I completely agree with you...there are so many other tracks they could have chosen from that would have done the band better justice as a single. Nice thing about 'Stupid Girl' though is that the song was written by Rivers Cuomo of Weezer.
