Pretty disappointing tbh. I've heard them all so far in chronological order. Way to soft and "pop"-ish in comparison to their earlier albums, which I enjoyed more with the use of electronic sounds. I'd rather listen to the unpolished sounds of "Garlands" then this.

Solid album. 'Cico Buff' is a dream. The 'Itchy Glowbo Blow' is an icy emotional joint. And 'For Phoebe Still A Baby' has a welcoming beauty to it. Just a few of my favorites.

actually, not that anyone should pay more attention to Pitchfork than to other equally relevant sites.. but I guess I'm a sheep as well haha - so I will just say I disagree with the reviewer prefering HoLV over Blue Bell Knoll, to me they are cca equal, each album better in different ways

I have been humming incoherently to this album for 20 odd years.

One of the greatest albums of the 80's, perhaps of all time. Liz's vocals are unbelievable. CT's finest moment.

This album can sound like cold, melancholia for one person, and happiness/bliss for another. That's genius, imo.

there are undoubtedly some of their very best and most passionate moments on this album - "carolyn's fingers", "a kissed out red floatboat" and "ella megalast burls forever" particularly are simply out of this world (the way they closed their albums was simply amazing)

The best & most coherent work by the Cocteau Twins. It's my favourite of theirs. It's also one of the greatest albums ever. It never gets boring or stale, it sounds fresh with every listen. This is the Cocteau Twins at their peak.

My favorite album by my favorite band. And my favorite album. And the remaster is quite worthwhile.

Played this for some friends while they were playing Super Ghosts and Ghouls. They agreed it would make a great alternate soundtrack.

Having access to the Cocteau Twins with out having crank up the Gramophone and get out 33's is rather wonderful!

All the remasters were botched, unfortunately. I agree, try and find the originals!! :)

A perfect example of remaster gone wrong! Try to get the original! It's so much better and a lot more intense in a subtle way!

I just listened to this album for the first time and the standout, without a doubt, is the first track, Blue Bell Knoll. I don't usually use beautiful to describe music but this has to be the only way I can describe it.

  • Imri_N

the order of the tracks is all wrong. order is very important in most of the CT's albums, so mind that...

  • Imri_N

BTW, the blur on the cover? the back of a hand.

    novembro 2007
  • Imri_N

Blue bell knoll was grossly unappreciated commercially. It is however, a masterpiece, structured like treasure, regal as treasure, but in a different way. the main issue i have with this album is the first song also titled 'blue bell knoll' is my second favorite CT song, and the rest of it cannot compare such an outburst of beauty and death.

I love her vocals: so dark and unintelligible, yet so sweet.
