I really like the Soundtracks of Smokin' Aces, Requiem for a dream is cool, too - but The Fountain is my favourite. It's the best soundtrack I've heard this year. Clint Mansell is one of my favourite composers - next to Hans Zimmer!

Whilst it fits the film perfectly, when listening to it independently it still holds together as an album. Don't get me wrong, I adore Requiem for a Dream, but to listen to the soundtrack as an album, it feels fractured and pieced together, and so it is ultimately evident it is meant as a companion to a film. There are common themes, but for the most part, the tracks are too short to develop them. On the other hand, Mansell achieves this with The Fountain, in such a way as it almost operates as a single Suite. [2]
