This year was full of amazing releases and stylebraking for me.
I was so used to the same things, demonic guitars, screams and hateful lyrics, so used to them, that I started to shut down other music, as if mine was better. BIG MISTAKE.
By then I was starting to act like a music snob, very definite on what I like, even though I always have had a variety I always found a safe spot on rock music in general.
But then pop had an outrage in 2009, with records like "The Fame Monster", "wordshaker", "3 Words", "Here we go Again", "La roux", I rediscovered the joy in listening to pop music, with both heartbraking and heartmending stories, I found confort in them.
In a stage in life in which, to be honest, nothing makes sense. The fusion in between my angels and insects made me strong throughout this event less year.
Music was the only thing that made this year interesting, I've always relied on music being there for me, and me being there for it, but WOW this year was fantastic.
So After all of this being said I am listing my top 10 of "THE BEST OF 09" according to my playlist of course, haha.
This top 10 includes old classic music, fused with old school rock, british pop and electronic grinding sounds. There are plenty of more artists to mention, but thank god Last.Fm makes my listing problems go away. haha
10.
Cheryl Cole

Oh what can I say for Cheryl that hasn't been said already.
She comes out from the ultimate most favorite Girl Band, the second I realized she was releasing an album, I started freaking out, for two reasons. "Is girls aloud splitting? ),: " and "OMFG a solo album!!". Fortunately enough I still haven't heard of any splitting news and we have a solo album by Cheryl Cole, the universe is still in perfect order. I waited for 3 weeks until I could finally hear the preview of "Fight for this love", when I did it was a torture of 2 more weeks until I could listen to the Full lenght. When I finally did, I couldn't be caught without singing and dancing to the beat. (I never dance btw). The single line "quitting is out if the question, when it gets tought you gotta fight some more" made me have watery eyes and think of my loved one. I really don't care if she didn't writte it, compose it, if she cant' sing for shit (I know she can), if she is only a pretty face ( a very VERY pretty one I might add), or if she had to struggle to get a record deal. I REALLY don't care, all I know is that she delivered an amazing single followed by an outstanding video, and awesome live performances. Saddly enough I cannot say the whole album is good, since tbh, I don't like it that much. The Excesive collaborations with "Will.I.Am" made it not that worth it, (specialy coz well I don't like him that much as a producer). Songs that where worth were "Parachute", "Stand up" and "3 words". Cheryl, I love you girl but I hope you stick with Girls Aloud.
9.
The Saturdays

So I have to be honest, I thought "oh no another Girls Aloud wannabe pop trash group", when I first saw them. I thought some of them were ridiculously hot, but nothing more. But I gave them a chance, I listened to "up" and BAM!!! I instantly adored them. Songs about heartbrake in the exact moment of braking up? Cheers for that!!! haha. Mix that with a Girl pop band from the UK, and I'm on board.
"Chasing lights" was an amazing album, BUT since we're talking about 09 I have to mention "Wordshaker", Which was exactly the perfect follow up album for "Chasing Lights". They are truly amazing and came right on time in a drought season for good girl bands, they took advantage of Girls Aloud brake and let me say that was the smartest move. The cover for "I just can't get enough" for the comic relief, Damn, made me love them for braking and unmolding a perfectly amazing song from Depeche Mode and make it into pop sensation. My respect to them for making this possible. Songs like "Forever is over", "I just can't get enough", "Lose Control", "Ego", "Keep Her" and such, make the saturdays not just worth listen, but a MUST listen.
So The Saturdays, please don't EVER go away.
8.
Glee Cast

Now this one was totally a surprise. I was listening to songs from Chicago and Les Miserables on youtube when a Recommendation caught my eye. This pictures of people with a hand doing the "Loser" signal to themselves, to me looked cool.
So i took a chance and watched it, it was a preview for an upcomming Fox show, staring a morbid version of HighSchool Musical (I hate that damn movie). I heard them singing "Don't stop believing" and my heart dropped to the floor. The lead singer Lea Michele caught my heart in her hands, played with it a little and then dropped it in the garbage can. From that moment on, I had to follow the cult of the "GLEEK's" (a fusion in between glee and geek, how clever huh? haha), I just had to. Now I'm proud to say I am a GLEEK, I adore 99% of their covers, Songs like "Don't stop believing", "Take a Bow", "Maybe this time", "Alone", and "Push it, made glee so much more than just a show. So Glee thank you for making life worth it, I will always love you for comming on the right time, I promise I'll never stop believing.
7.
Édith Piaf

Oh Édith, my role model, my inspiration, my goddess, my everything.
Her name by itself tells a tearfull story. Her life inspired me to live mine, made me realize how of a stupid little brat I've been and made be thankful for everything I have.
I can totally relate to her love for singing and music, all she wanted to do in life was performing, she even performed on the streets of France not only to get money for food and drinks, but for the joy of singing. I remember watching "La vie en Rose", with that scene in which she couldn't even stand up, all the people wanted her to go to the doctor, but she didn't care about herself, she thought out of herself, she knew the show was bigger than herself. I sigh just to think about all of this. My heart goes to Édith Piaf.Songs like "non, je ne regrette rien", "mon dieu", "La vie en rose", "padam padam", and others made me remember that music is more than a clear sound or all that technologic crap, is about transmiting a mesage and make people feel, and believe me Édith did that to me. So Thank you Édith por the gift of your music. You are definitely my role model.
6.
Girls Aloud

What kind of british pop fan would I be without having Girls Aloud on my list? yeah you got it right THE WORSE KIND.
By the end of last year they released "Out of Control" some sort of a "be right back" album, and I have to say I was SUPER SAD, when I heard they were taking a break. Like who does that nowadays?, but I guess they do needed a break.
Anyway, I've been a fan of Girls Aloud since 2003, Since the second I heard "Sound of the Underground" I instantly knew they would become my obsession and so for almost 7 years I've been following them up from my tiny tiny cave on Guatemala City far far away from the cold streets of the united kingdom, and I will continue to do so.
I could go on and on and on and on about how much I adore them, BUT I'll stick with why they're on the top 10 of "The best of 09". Songs like "Untouchable", "The loving kind", "Turn to stone", "The promise", and "Miss you bow wow" made this "break" album worth listening, A combination of electronic sounds and the characteristic girl pop band sounds made it a mouth watering album. I can't wait for another album and I cross my fingers that they do have a new one. So Girls Aloud, PLEASE I beg you, stay together for the kids (lol)
5.
Tiger Army

Now this one was a surprise, one day I was thinking to myself, what the fuck? am I going exclusively pop nowadays? I mean I hear rock music everyday, but pop was taking over. Fortunately enough, my bff rough loving punk moshing friend, introduced me to a world of retro and amazingness. I have heard of psych and rockabilly before, and I had been seduced to fall over for that kind of music, but I never quite fully understood what it was about.
The retro hairstyles, up to belly pants and tats made me fall head over heels for Tiger Army, their songs represent a mistic world for me, the dark side that never leaves me EVER. Tiger Army reminded me how amazing can REAL guitars can sound, how a wonderful rock voice can make me feel like my guts are comming out of my mouth. If I could pick a song for my marriage it would definitly be a struggle in between "No. 1 Crush" and "Afterworld" by Tiger Army. It is simply a masterpiece.
They're whole discography is full of excitment and dark scenarios that bring me back to my childhood in which I drew people haning from trees and dark forests (yes I was/am an efed up kid XD)
So, thank the gods for them, seriously Thank every single one of them, damn it.
4.
La Roux

Discovery of the year, is the first word that comes to my mind when I think of La roux.
I had heard of them WAY before, but I kept refusing to like pop back then. I then forgot about them, a few months later "La roux" was recommended to be my Last.fm (and people ask me why I LOVE Last.FM, well this is why) I gave them another chance with "Bulletproof" and I have to say they became an instant hit with me, I then realized how amazing the concept of "La roux" was. A perfect bowl of ye old nintendo spoof and popelectronica made me feel like I was back in grade 6. La roux music makes me travel to a world full of lights and sounds, full of an "Idgaf" phylosophy, and androginy and all my friends know how much I love androginy.
Songs AND videos like "Bulletproof", "I'm not your toy", "In for the Kill" and album songs like "Tigerlily", "Armour Love", "Fascination" among others, made me believe in magic again. In a magical own world full of happyness and empty of worries. I have to say La roux, this time baby, I'll be bulletproof thanks to you ♥ <---(The only eheart I'll give on this top, coz I think it's necessary XD)
3.
Cinema Bizarre
Coming close to Number one we have Cinema Bizarre.
Oh this guys have been an inspiration since the old "Myspace Perfection Group" days, yes I discovered them on the "Perfection Dolls" page, like I know some people did. I thought they weren't that big, but when I started to dig into it I realized they were a phenomenon already and that I was late, fortunately enough, not that late.
For those who know me from youtube know for sure, how much I adore them, 50% of my covers are from their songs. BUT I'm not talking about how much I adore them, but of how much I anticipated their new album "Toyz", I waited years and years for this new album to come out, and I wasn't dissapointed AT ALL. In fact I loved it so much, that I even went on a frenzy with my best friend to find it ahead of time, saddly enough we had to wait AN EFING LOT to finally get our claws on it. Countless cancellations of album release date, made us even more impatient, so by the time we finally got it, we were in pure exstasy.
I cannot only mention 5 or 6 songs from "Toyz" I have to say the whole album is a Glamsterpiece. I thank them for doing such an amazing heartbraking album, it reminds me that I'm human and that I can make mistakes. That there's someone and something for us outside of ourselves. Acceptance and Love is the main subjects for their music, and I have to say is something we all need.
So Cinema Bizarre the album was worth the waiting, thank you for blessing us with your music. THANK YOU
2.
Lady GaGa

You all knew she was going to be at least on number 2, In fact she would be Number one BUT stupid chris decided that he hated her when she became ridiculously famous by the end of 08 and beginning of 09 so I deleted all her plays and said goodbye to her for a while.
I couldn't bare it no more and decided to bring her back, I decided that my hate was missdirected is not her the one I hate, it was the kind of fans that like her just coz eveyrone does. Or dislike her just coz everyone else likes her. I then brought her back, and was the best decition I've ever made.
Despite of what everyone thinks "The Fame" is not a new album, however "The Fame Monster" WAS realeased on this year, so yeah I'll talk about "The fame monster" instead of talking about "The Fame" since I think it has been overtalked about.
The Fame monster has "hits" and New songs, as a gaga fan I couldn't wait for the new songs, I had all the demos ahead of time, and still thought "this can't be it", little by little I got my hands on the HQ versions and by the release I had them all, and TBH it was efing outstanding, I was/am listening to it NON STOP.
Then she released the "Bad Romance" video, on a technologic world of decandence and doom. She brought me down to my knees and worship her as the "out of the mold" goddess. I can't get enough of her, but I keep myself silent. I don't like other gaga fans coming up to me with their wise assess about how they love the gaga more than I do, I don't care how much more you love her, or how many times you've seen her live. I care about her music, her voice and the feeling it makes me feel. That is my gaga, the musical diva she is, not the persona.
Songs like "Alejandro", "Bad Romance", "Speechless", "Dance in the Dark" and the beyonce collaboration of "Videophone" make Lady gaga My definite favorite for this year TOO.
I think her and my number one have a very VERY fierce battle but yeah I think number two also deserves it. :] Thank you gaga for your music, thank you for not falling to your addictions and bless us with your music.
So Lady Gaga, I bow down to you.
1.
Demi Lovato

She was my biggest surprise of the year, I started by disliking her, why? I have no idea, there was something about her being a disney star that didn't quite appealed with myself, I kept disregarding her despite the FACT that I couldn't take "So Far so Great" out of my head through 08, I kept avoiding and dodging every "Demi Bullet" that was directed towards me, until one day I heard "Don't Forget", it was love at seconds sight, A mixture of a calm rock melody, an amazing strong chorus with an incredibly POWERFUL voice, made me weak to my knees. i instantly realized that I had been stupid to have been putting Demi Lovato off of my music list.
That song instantly brought me to another universe. By the release of "Here we go Again" I had already thought of naming my kids after her (haha). Songs like "Here we go Again", "Quiet", "Solo", "Remember December", "Stop the World" among others made living a pleasure. I can't wait to hear more from Miss Demi, I might not be the most dedicated fan, or the most obsessed, but I tell you this for sure, her music gets to my soul, makes me feel good and I think music is supossed to make you FEEL.
So demi you have Number one of my top 10
