Indeed, this is a ridiculous debate, as you are unable to understand the fault of your ad hominem argument.

So you seriously think charles manson's actions are separate from his music? when you do something as extreme as charles manson the music is irrevocably intertwined with the man who created it. a man who killed people. if it's not, then what's the relation between an artist and his work? they don't have anything to do with each other? you mean to say that the music charles manson created existed as some kind of separate entity in his head that broke free? wasn't charles manson ball shit-crazy pretty much the entire time during his adult life? (i could be wrong, and then i'll gladly stand corrected) so it's not like he created his music in a different state of mind than the one he was in when he killed people, or ordered others to do so. i hate sounding like a conservative moralist, but this is a ridiculous debate.

Glimmer-Twin: "there's quite a big difference in being "normal" and writing a book about a psychopath, and killing people and making "normal" music." I don't see the difference. The music is still "normal", irrespective of Charlies actions. You don't have to support the man to support his music, as his actions do not reflect on it.

i haven't heard his music, but it doesn't really matter what it sounds like. it's pretty obvious that you can't separate the man from his music, not when it comes to what he did. trying to twist that fact around is just stupid. i don't really wanna join the hater-club, and i'm a very liberal person, but come on. it's charles manson. you don't really need to debate this. and the american psycho-example was pretty stupid. there's quite a big difference in being "normal" and writing a book about a psychopath, and killing people and making "normal" music.

No, it is not the truth. In music, truth is aways subjective. It is merely your oppinion.

I don't dislike his music at all, but the truth is, he's not a good musician.

Please! People! Manson is a very unpleasant person! That's not an argument against his music! If you don't like his music, that's ok. But saying everything he produces is automatically horrible, just because he's the kind of person he is, is stupid and inane. Reverse example: The person who wrote american psycho is not a psychopath! Art and the artist are separate entities.

cazeer: No kidding. He's a great musician. The fact that he's a bit fucked up doesn't change that.

He might be whatever he is, but he has some really good folk songs that I enjoy. And that's all that matters to me as far as music is concerned.

Are you kidding me? Charles Manson was a sadistic fuck. He's not even a great musician.
