@Henry994 : Now they are. Well, ever since Into the Pandemonium they were avant-garde metal. Prior to that they were a thrash/old-school black metal band. BUT... it's not hard to hear how they were influential to death (as well as doom) metal bands as well. Honestly, listen to a band like Obituary or Dream Death or Master/Death Strike after listening to an early Celtic Frost or Hellhammer release and try and tell me there aren't strong similarities.

Ahhh, finally found a copy of Monotheist! I've been listening to it online for ages, and now I've finally got it. Fantastic album, very heavy and powerful, but doesn't try overly to show off. Great vocals too, very distinct. A lovely blending of the heaviness and depressive nature of doom metal with the tone and darkness of black metal.
