First, make a list of your top-20 artists overall. Then, for each of these artists, add the 8 most similar artists to your list. Delete any duplicates, count up the number of entries on your list and this will give you some idea of how eclectic your listening habits are. A score of 9 represents an extremely unvaried musical taste while a 160 represents an extremely varied one.

    121...
Meh, that's pretty much what I was expecting. My top 20 is still a little polluted from all the pop punk from last spring when that was pretty much the only thing I listened to. Now I don't really listen to it at all.
Also, I must say, I can't really believe that I don't like Three Days Grace after how many times it popped up on there.

  • 2009 - Top 25 Albums

    Dez 17 2009, 22h12 por groverXIII

Holy crap, so many great albums were released this year that it was difficult for me to narrow this album down to just 25 picks. Before I start naming my top albums, here's just a list of honorable mentions, all of which probably could have found their way onto my list:

3 Inches Of Blood - Here Waits Thy Doom
Alestorm - Black Sails At Midnight
Arsonists Get All The Girls - Portals
    Augury - Fragmentary Evidence
Austrian Death Machine - Double Brutal
    Be'lakor - Stone's Reach
Billy Talent - Billy Talent III
Buckethead - Slaughterhouse On The Prairie
    Candlemass - Death Magic Doom
    Cormorant - Metazoa
    Dååth - The Concealers
    Dalriada - Arany-Album
    Deströyer 666 - Defiance
    Dethklok - Dethalbum II
Dream Theater - Black Clouds & Silver Linings
Eluveitie - Evocation I - The Arcane Dominion
    Evile - Infected Nations
    Exivious - Exivious
    Fleshgod Apocalypse - Oracles
Fu Manchu - Signs Of Infinite Power
    God Forbid - Earthsblood
Heaven & Hell - The Devil You Know
House Of Broken Promises - Using The Useless
    Insomnium - Across The Dark
    Kalisia - Cybion
    Killswitch Engage - Killswitch Engage
Kong - What It Seems Is What You Get
    Lamb Of God - Wrath
    Mantic Ritual - Executioner
    NOFX - Coaster
    OSI - Blood
    Revocation - Existence Is Futile
Scale The Summit - Carving Desert Canyons
Scar Symmetry - Dark Matter Dimensions
    Skeletonwitch - Breathing The Fire
Skyclad - In The... All Together
    Slayer - World Painted Blood
Street Sweeper Social Club - Street Sweeper Social Club
    Suidakra - Crógacht
The Company Band - The Company Band
Them Crooked Vultures - Them Crooked Vultures
    Warbringer - Waking Into Nightmares
White Wizzard - High Speed GTO
    Wino - Punctuated Equilibrium
    Wolfmother - Cosmic Egg

See what I mean? Anyway, without further ado, the list.

    25) Mastodon - Crack The Skye: So many people have this album at the top of their lists. I personally liked the album a great deal, but didn't feel that it was up to the quality of their previous work.

    24) Katatonia - Night Is The New Day: I'm a bit new to Katatonia, but I really found myself enjoying this album early on. I heard some similarities to Opeth that really helped draw me in.

    23) HORSE the band - Desperate Living: HtB can always be relied on for some serious weirdness with their music, and this was no different. I felt it improved upon A Natural Death, although it's not quite as great as The Mechanical Hand was.

    22) Obscura - Cosmogenesis: This was the album that really drew into technical death metal, and was one of my favorites of the year. The fretless bass work is fantastic.

    21) Rammstein - Liebe Ist Für Alle Da: It had been too long since the last album Rammstein had released an album, and considering the direction the band had taken with their last few albums, I was worried at how this one would come out. As it turned out, I had nothing to worry about. Their best work since Mutter.

    20) Koffin Kats - Forever For Hire: As far as I'm concerned, Koffin Kats are the best psychobilly band out there, and they continued to reinforce that opinion with this release.

    19) Celldweller - Wish Upon A Blackstar Chapter 01 & 02: The man known as Klayton began releasing his latest album two tracks at a time this year. These first two chapters are excellent and really left me wanting more.

    18) Les Claypool - Of Fungi And Foe: Ah, Les Claypool. The mad genius from Primus continues to get weirder with age, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

    17) Between the Buried and Me - The Great Misdirect: For a long time I believed BTBAM to be a screamo band based solely on their name; as it turned out, I was completely wrong. And I have never been happier to be proven wrong.

    16) KMFDM - Blitz: KMFDM are a bit like the AC/DC of industrial rock... you always know what you're getting with their music, and yet, it's still pretty damn great.

    15) TrollfesT - Villanden: In addition to possessing the most patently ridiculous album art, Villanden is a deliriously entertaining blast of bizarre folk metal. Enjoyable from start to finish.

    14) Thy Catafalque - Róka Hasa Rádió: I was really surprised at how much this album grew on me, considering my usual opinions on black metal. Then again, Thy Catafalque is not your typical black metal. The highlight for me is the 19 minute, 11 second Molekuláris gépezetek, which digresses into a hypnotic drumbeat with a smattering of saxophone and piano before its final metallic crescendo.

    13) Devin Townsend Project - Ki & Addicted: Both of these albums could easily occupy spots on this list, but for the sake of simplicity I'm combining them. Ki's mellow, propulsive guitars are an amazing complement to the bombastic pop-metal riffs of Addicted.

    12) Rodrigo y Gabriela - 11:11: 2009 was the year I learned that acoustic guitars can shred just as hard as electric when played right. This album blew my mind.

    11) Megadeth - Endgame: Dave Mustaine may be a dick, but he showed this year that he still remembers Megadeth's thrash roots, and subsequently released his best work since Rust In Peace. Endgame is as great a return to form as Death Magnetic was for Metallica.

    10) Supercommuter - Supercommuter: Alright, I like a bit of nerdcore hip-hop now and then, and Optimus Rhyme was probably the cream of the crop until their unfortunate decision to part ways. Take vocalist Wheelie Cyberman, replace the funk rock beats with 8-bit bleeps, and you have a recipe for success.

    9) Animals as Leaders - Animals As Leaders: Tosin Abasi managed to make an instrumental metal album that doesn't really sound like anything I've ever heard, brilliantly showing just what a guitarist is capable.

    8) Metroid Metal - Varia Suite: Seeing as Powerglove didn't get an album out this year, I had to find my fix of video game metal elsewhere. Fortunately, Metroid Metal was more than up to the task, transforming the music of the Metroid games into some sublimely brilliant instrumental metal.

    7) Amorphis - Skyforger: Amorphis' last three albums now have been consistently brilliant, with fantastic vocals, evocative lyrics, and beautifully heavy music. Truly an incredible album.

    6) Baroness - Blue Record: As great as Baroness' previous work was, I felt that there was a certain unevenness that kept me from really enjoying them. Blue Record took care of that.

    5) Diablo Swing Orchestra - Sing Along Songs For The Damned And Delirious: It's not often that you find an artist that truly does something original in music, but DSO do just that by mashing metal, jazz, swing, opera, and electronic into one amazing package. This album is unlike anything you have ever heard, and it's an incredible ride from start to finish.

    4) Priestess - Prior To The Fire: Priestess got some much-deserved recognition when their song 'Lay Down' was included on Guitar Hero, but their last album, while solid, was not great. Prior To The Fire completely and totally blows away anything they've done and elevates stoner rock to a new level.

    3) Ensiferum - From Afar: Ensiferum have long been recognized as one of the premier bands in folk metal, with a flair for epic songs, and they continue to separate themselves from the pack on From Afar. Not only do they have the two 10+ minute epic 'Heathen Stone' tracks, but they actually incorporate some Ennio Morricone-style western sounds and a shredding banjo solo on 'Stone Cold Metal' and make it work. Phenomenal.

    2) Clutch - Strange Cousins From The West: I was almost certain that this album would be number one on my list this year, simply because it's Clutch. They consistently manage to release incredible blues/stoner rock and yet seem fresh, and like a fine wine they only get better with age.

    1) Gorod - Process Of A New Decline: This album came out of nowhere and completely ripped my face off. Obscura may have really gotten me a taste of tech-death, but Gorod made me realize just what could be done within the genre. In spite of the dizzying tempo changes, ridiculous guitar leads, and light-speed drumming, I discovered that the riffs were memorable and that there were moments where the band actually slowed things down just a bit and settled into a groove. I never thought that technical death metal could be described as catchy... and yet, Gorod manages to achieve just that. Unbelievable.

  • Top 50 Artists Meme

    Dez 3 2009, 17h45 por caviesfan79

    1. How did you get into #29? [Manic Bloom]
I was watching a video on YouTube that had the song TocarWhat Scares You Most in it, so I looked them up and was absolutely blown away with the rest of their EP. I eagerly await the day when/if they release a full-length studio album.

    2. What's the first song you ever heard by #22? [Hiroshi Yamaguchi]
I guess Issun's Theme, because it constantly occurs in the game Okami.

    3. What's your favorite lyric by #33? [Masami Ueda]
His music has no lyrics ;)

    4. How did you get into #49? [Kasabian]
In an iTunes Essentials playlist somewhere, the reviewer described TocarClub Foot as "the perfect song to rob a bank to." Deciding that sounded interesting, I found the reviewer was absolutely right, so I went and discovered the rest of Kasabian's work from there.

    5. How many albums by #13 do you own? [David Bergeaud]
Since he composes the music for the Ratchet and Clank video games series, I don't really own any CDs, but I do own five of the R&C games. :)

    6. What is your favorite song by #50? [Red]
    TocarAlready Over.

    7. Is there a song by #39 that makes you sad? [Superchic[k]]
    TocarStand In The Rain.

    8. What is your favorite song by #5? [Muse]
Hard to pick, but probably Knights of Cydonia.

    9. What is your favorite song by #5? [Anberlin]
Again, very hard to pick... either TocarAlexithymia, or TocarFeel Good Drag.

    10. Is there a song by #6 that makes you happy? [The Classic Crime]
There are SO many; I love this group. Tocar5805, however, is a special one because it reminds me of my best friends from my childhood.

    11. What is the worst song by #40? [Ohio University Marching 110]
Considering I'm in the group, I can safely say that it depends on the arrangement of the piece, and how hard we're practicing. I'm not fond of quite a few songs the 110 has played over the years.

    12. What is your favorite song by #10? [Frou Frou]
    TocarPsychobabble, without a doubt.

    13. What is a good memory you have involving #30? [VersaEmerge]
Considering I just discovered VE literally this week, I have already had some really awesome times leaving Perceptions on repeat and singing along (In Pursuing Design and Clocks are great rock-out songs).

It's funny, though, how I found out about VE... there's a fictional character I draw quite often whose name is Versa, and I once made a Flair button with her picture on it on Facebook. When I was looking for the Flair again, I stumbled upon a huge bunch of VersaEmerge flair, naturally, because of keywords in the search. I was curious... and found one of my favorite bands of all-time!

    14. What is your favorite song by #38? [The Graduate]
    Doppleganger.

    15. Is there a song by #19 that makes you happy? [Breaking Benjamin]
They're most depressing/angry songs, but sometimes that makes me happy (I'm a bit of a schadenfreude. Therefore, TocarBreath.

    16. Is there a song by #25 that makes you sad? [Saosin]
Eh, not really. They're hard rock, but generally upbeat.

    17. What is the first song you ever heard by #23? [Jamiroquai]
It was definitely Canned Heat (Masters at Work remix). A friend sent it to me, and I was instantly hooked. They're so fun and unique.

    18. What's your favorite lyric by #11? [Chevelle]
I think the opening of TocarEmotional Drought is striking, and very applicable to parts of my life:

    It's possible that the worst
    Of the inside
    Could take our pencils away
    End creating
Can't let the teachers lay waste
    Of a new mind
    Prevent emotional drought
    And watch the pace quicken
    Try to never touch
    Try to never touch

    19. Who is a favorite member of #1? [Mae]
Dave Elkins, the lead singer. Not only is he a great musician, but a kindhearted soul (what other band starts a co-op with Habitat For Humanity and then records a full-length album about it, with the proceeds from online downloads going to the cause?), and quite funny in band interviews.

    20. Is there a song by #14 that makes you happy? [中鶴純一]
Hour Of Destiny is epic... I could listen to it a million times.

    21. What is a good memory involving #27? [Rei Kondoh]
Any time playing Okami is a good time! The soundtrack is stunning.

    22. What is your favorite song by #16? [Gustav Holst]
Hmm... I'll say 1st Suite in E-Flat: I - Chaconne. Poor guy never gets recognized for anything but the Planets Suite. I'm really a fan of his military band works even more than those.

    23. What is the first song you ever heard by #47? [Samuel R. Hazo]
Olympiada, which unfortunately is not in his track listing here. It was a part of my high school marching band's field show.

    24. What is your favorite album by #18? [Pendulum]
    In Silico.

    25. What is your favorite song by #21? [Three Days Grace
    TocarJust Like You.

    26. What is the first song you ever heard by #26? [Blue October]
    TocarInto The Ocean.

    27. What is your favorite album by #3? [Fireflight]
Unbreakable! Home of my most-played song.

    28. What is your favorite song by #2? [Imogen Heap]
This is almost impossible to choose... it's a toss-up between TocarClosing In and TocarHeadlock.

    29. What was the first song you ever heard by #32? [iiO]
TocarRapture, from some animation on AlbinoBlackSheep.com.

    30. What is your favorite song by #8? [House of Heroes]
Depending on the day, either In the Valley of the Dying Son or By Your Side.

    31. How many times have you seen #17 live? [Paramore]
Unfortunately never. I think I'd need to wear crazier clothing, pierce my nose, dye my hair, and learn to love mosh pits in order to fully enjoy a concert, though.

    32. Is there a song by #44 that makes you happy? [Skillet]
    Really, no.

    33. How did you get into #12? [Shiny Toy Guns]
My friend was driving me home from a graduation ceremony practice when she started blasting TocarLe Disko from her car radio. I asked her who performed it. Fom about that moment, I've loved STG (both versions: Carah and Sisely).

    34. What is the worst song by #45? [Angels & Airwaves]
I don't listen to them much anymore because most of their songs from We Don't Need to Whisper all sound the same. I'd have to say, then, TocarDo It For Me Now.

    35. What was the first song you ever heard by #34? [Hans Zimmer]
I'm not sure... whatever the first thing I heard from Pirates of the Caribbean was.

    36. What was the first song you ever heard by #48? [Kate Ryan]
A friend of mine made me listen to Je t'adore.

    37. How many times have you seen #42 live? [Lostprophets]
    Never.

    38. What is your favorite song by #36? [Celldweller]
    TocarThe Last Firstborn.

    39. What was the first song you ever heard by #28? [Carolina Liar]
I checked out I'm Not Over after a friend plugged it in his Facebook status. I found a great band.

    40. What is your favorite album by #7? [Switchfoot]
    Oh! Gravity.

    41. Is there a song by #31 that makes you happy? [Mute Math]
Typical in particular, but really all of them.

    42. What is your favorite album by #41? [Original Broadway Cast]
I absolutely adore the songs from The Pajama Game.

    43. What is your favorite song by #24? [Moloko]
    TocarFamiliar Feeling.

    44. What is a good memory you have involving #46? [32 Leaves]
Their music makes really great background music for drawing, so I'll give them that.

    45. What is your favorite song by #35? [Bad Religion]
God, there are so many... I'll go with Stranger Than Fiction.

    46. Is there a song by #9 that makes you happy? [Circa Survive]
TocarKicking Your Crosses Down, even though it's rather depressing.

    47. What is your favorite album by #4? [Utada]
    Exodus.

    48. Who is your favorite member of #37? [The Killers]
    Brandon Flowers, I guess.

    49. What is the first song you ever heard by #43? [Kate Havnevik]
    Unlike Me.

    50. What is your favorite song by #20? [The Hush Sound]
Ugh, these guys are so wonderful, it's hard to choose. For now I'll say Wine Red.

  • My Top 50

    Nov 29 2009, 9h26 por ShatteredFlame

Well I've been on last.fm for almost 2 years now and my taste has changed dramatically over time. Looking at my top 50 overall I'm really not happy with most of the artist on their. Partly because at first when I discovered a band I loved I would scrobble the shit out of them until they reached a high status on my charts. Nowadays I can't be bothered with how much I scrobble an artist because there's always so much other music I want to check out. So here I am at 2 am listening to Tom Waits wasting the night away writing about what I think about my top 50.
= Looks great on my charts
= I like them but I'm not for 100% in having them high in my charts
    = GTFO my charts.

    1. Tool
Took me a while for me to love them. Then when they finally grew on me they immediately became one of my favorite bands. All their albums are great even their live album Salival is something worth checking out. And with each album better than the last I can only imagine how amazing their next album will be since 10,000 Days was so perfect.

    2. The Cure
Immediately loved them when I first heard Disintegration. There early post-punk stuff is great but I think they hit they're peak with Disintegration. Weak was alright but everything after pretty much sucks. I still haven't checked out everything by them even with over 2000 scrobbles. They have so much material.

    3. Opeth
First checked out Still Life. Loved it. Then Damnation. Bored me, except TocarWindowpane. Like Tool it took me awhile before fully appreciating them. Now they've become one of my favorite bands.

    4. Pink Floyd
Yeah classic band. Darkside Of The Moon, The Wall, and Animals are all classics to me.

    5. A Perfect Circle
I don't really listen to them at all anymore. At first I was just a blind Tool fan loving Maynard's voice and his lyrics, now I think most lyrics are complete bullshit and appreciate artist for their musicianship. These guys are better than your average mainstream rock bands, some nice song writing that sets them apart from simply sounding generic. Tocar3 Libras will always be one of my favorite songs.

    6. Katatonia
I'm always an "on again off again" type of relationship with these guys. First heard The Great Cold Distance, loved it at first now I can barely sit through the whole thing. There other albums are the same, except Brave Murder Day which will always be their best. Overall, they have a lot of gems spread out in their albums, the best usually being bonus tracks and CD-singles.

    7. Celldweller
I used to listen to this guy all the time. Now I think he is pretty overrated. Being a part of the AMV community is really sickening because everyone considers this guy a genius, pretty much every single song is done to death. Why do people praise this guy for being a one man band? Like there isn't millions of other solo artist who also create great music. He has some great material but I wouldn't call anything he's done a masterpiece. Every song he has released lately has been solid but I really don't think he can create a great album. I'll take a great album over a great song any day.

    8. Puscifer
Actually checked him out before APC or Tool. Still love this project. V is for Vagina is a great album but I do think that it is very hit and miss. The stuff he has been putting out lately especially The Humbling River have got to be the best material released on here. I'm liking this new atmospheric direction.

    9. Rise Against
My favorite generic nostalgic band. I don't really listen to them at all anymore but I don't mind it when I do.

    10. Metallica
Really not sure how they got this high on my charts in the first place. I think they're classic albums for the most part are very overrated. Kill 'em All and ...And Justice For All are pretty good though. When Death Magnetic first released I loved it but since then I've gotten into a lot of other superior metal bands.

    11. Eminem
Yeah hes a guilty pleasure. Will always be.

    12. Devin Townsend
I completely love this guys work. His insanity is of my liking. Great musicianship. Addicted has also got to be one of my favorite 09 releases.

    13. Agalloch
These guys can't release a bad record. Everything they've done is great.

    14. King Crimson
Masters of Prog? Yeah In the Court of the Crimson King, Larks Tongue in Aspic and Red. are all essential for every prog lover.

    15. Shining
Checked these guys out when I read that fucked up description about their beliefs and live performances, I just had to hear how fucked up this was. I'm glad I did give them a listen. Besides being fucked up V: Halmstad has got to be one of the greatest pieces of music I have ever heard. Every track is mind blowing. I haven't really gave their earlier stuff much of a listen. VI: Klagopsalmer was awful though.

    16. Meshuggah
Didn't really want to check them out because how stupid their band pictures look. Chaosphere made me laugh, Jens Kidman sounded like a barking dog and the music just sucked. Catch-33 was a much better experience, their music was kind of annoying but I think that's what inevitably made them great for me....for some reason, don't really know how to describe my feelings toward them. They also became the headliners of the first concert I attended :).

    17. Infected Mushroom
First heard the song Artillery which was great. I didn't check out the full album until a long time after which I regret because Vicious Delicious is a damn satisfying album. I don't care about how pop it is compared to how magical their earlier albums are. Infected Popshroom > Infected Mushroom. Not too much of a fan of them, they're live performance was hands down the best I've been too. I also helped advertise for them in their fanmanager street team and won an autographed poster and CD :D.

    18. Amon Amarth
Twilight of the Thunder God unleashed my hidden craving for death metal. Now I think it's a pretty boring record. Metal gets old fast man.

    19. Jerry Goldsmith
Lol, short lived movie soundtrack craving.

    20. Angelspit
Addicting shit. Addicting when I first heard them. Still as addicting now. Even they're new release cleared my disappointment after a few listens. 2nd album has yet to grasp me.

    21. My Bloody Valentine
    Loveless

    22. Beastie Boys
Hell Yeah! Probably a guilty pleasure, isn't it?

    23. "Weird Al" Yankovic
    Another guilty pleasure, right?

    24. Nine Inch Nails
I never really liked them as much as I wanted to. All these scrobbles are a failed attempt for the most part. The Downward Spiral and The Fragile have some good songs but other than that I have never been able to see the magic.

    25. Linkin Park
    Angry generic emo shit.

    26. Joy Division
A truly great band. Ian Curtis wrote some wonderful songs. Lyrics are all fantastic. Simple but hold so much meaning.

    27. Ayreon
    Gets old after while.

    28. Mastodon
They're pretty good. Crack The Skye is such an overrated album it's ridiculous. Leviathan is great.

    29. Cynic
    Metal Gods!

    30. Tom Waits
    Absolute genius!

    31. maudlin of the Well
Fucking insane band. Toby Driver is a genius.

    32. Mindless Self Indulgence
Yeah I considered myself daring for listening to a band like this. They still have a few classics but I don't really listen to them anymore.

    33. Modest Mouse
Have some great songs but as albums go they tend to fade with time.

    34. John Carpenter
    Only around Halloween

    35. Scarling.
They are great...I haven't listened to them in a long time now

    36. Guns N' Roses
    Meh.

    37. Shpongle
Should be as high as Infected Mushroom. Great music.

    38. Porcupine Tree
I haven't really listened to many albums by them. I love Deadwing and Lightbulb Sun but most of the other stuff I've checked out is pretty boring.

    39. Astronautalis
Amazing artist. TocarBarrel Jumping (A Man Of Letters), The Waterfall and TocarThe Story of My Life all have got to be some of the greatest songs I've heard.

    40. Thousand Foot Krutch
    Generic Christian Rock

    41. System of a Down
    Such a faux pas

    42. Vader
They won't be relevant in a couple of months

    43. Have a Nice Life
Great album. Great bootleg demo album but recently I'm not feeling what I felt when I first listened months ago.

    44. ASHES dIVIDE
Wow something completely shot out of my life.

    45. Gojira
Metal that doesn't get boring. Great drumming also.

    46. J.Viewz
Local New York band. Chill out album. So great.

    47. Unwound
Leaves Turn Inside You is so great but like Have a Nice Life I think I'm growing out of this depressing shit.

    48. Dane Cook
Why did I have him to begin with? =(

    49. Bill Conti
Short lived Rocky soundtrack addiction. Still great but not something meant for heavy listening.

    50. Black Light Burns
I kind of forced myself to like them. They suck. Only New Hunger, Cruel Melody and Lucretia My Reflection are good.

Final Verdict: Only 23 out of 50 artist I am satisfied with =(

  • Voicians - Shift EP review

    Nov 22 2009, 14h13 por shamikebab

    Voicians - Shift

    Track Listing:

    Back Down
    To The Core
    Trigger
    Dead End
    Nails
    Blaze
    Along my Mind
Goodbye feat. Martin Harp (Celldweller Cover)
    Limitbreaker

Shift is the second EP by artist and remixer Daniel Voicians. His debut release, 2007's The Inner Frame showed Voicians' ability to meld beautiful orchestral sections with harsh electronic beats. Shift shows the same eagerness to fuse sounds from a variety of different genres. However, Shift has a greater sense of urgency and power to the sound. Without diminishing his first release, you can quickly see how far Voicians has progressed, both in musical ability and general production values. If The Inner Frame was the first tentative steps onto a new world then Shift is a full on invasion.

The opener, TocarBack Down hits you like the starting pistol of some futuristic conflict, machine gun synths and distorted guitar riffs are beautifully complimented by a haunting, high pitched melody in the background. TocarTo The Core was initially released as a demo track to show fans what the second EP would sound like (the demo itself is still available for free download along with a number of other tracks at www.voicians.net) The final version of the track has some subtle changes from the demo but the overall heavy layered sound is still present, the track leads on very well from ]Back Down. Voicians has really spread his musical wings with Shift, there is a greater EBM influence, especially on the third track TocarTrigger, the intro is quite a change from the first few tracks, a fast paced EBM type sound, similar to artists like VNV Nation and Covenant. The progression continues throughout the track, with a fast paced beat joining in. The piano breakdown at around the half way mark is simply fantastic. Piano driven closer TocarAlong my Mind is a notable shift in tempo and is more similar to the down-tempo sound of Voicians first release, in particular the track TocarI saw you run.

Since Shift was released Voicians has produced two additional tracks, TocarGoodbye feat. Martin Harp (Celldweller Cover) and TocarLimitbreaker. Goodbye is a cover of a track by the one man band Celldweller and features vocals from fellow remixer and now solo artist Martin Harp. The cover stands up really well to the original, Harp's lighter vocals compliment Voicians moody synths perfectly. This track is available for free download from the FiXT store. The instrumental version of the track is also available to anyone who purchases Shift. The second track Limitbreaker is only available to those who buy 'Shift', it's an instrumental track more in fitting with the rest of the EP.

Shift is a superb release, a cohesive collection of orchestral and electronic tracks that would not sound out of place on the score to a futuristic action film or game. It's always hard working out whether it's worth spending money on an unknown artist, if you're still in doubt then download Goodbye (featuring Martin Harp) and the demos available from Voicians website at the links throughout the review, you can also stream the full tracks from his Last.FM page. The EP itself can be purchased from the FiXT music store at www.fixtstore.com.
