Well next week it is, the damn festival I've been anticipating like no tomorrow since they announced their list of performers,Ilosaarirock.

I'm a lil bit bored at work so thought I'd write down some of my plans for the weekend. Will see how well I can stick to them =).

So here we go...

Friday 11.7.

Gonna take a day off work. Luckily the buggers aren't too tight about keeping days off. Anyway. Waking up at 4-5 am so we can make the camping site in good time. Damn long ride from Tampere to Joensuu, 5-6 hours probably. Dunno even who's gonna accompany me in the car but I guess there shouldn't be trouble finding someone to pay for all the gasoline my mighty Suzuki Swift consumes :D.

So we should be at Linnunlahti Camping around 11-12 am depending how many breaks we'll have to take. Which should guarantee some decent spots for our tents and cars from the site. Park the car in there somewhere, open a beer, start getting stuff in order. Will also probably have to reserve some space for some mates who are too lazy to get up early to drive across Finland :p. After the tents are all set up the plan is gonna involve opening a whole lot more of them beercans.

Töminä-event in the evening looks interesting, some really good bands there like St. Hood and the tickets are only 10 euros. Might be worth checking out if laying on the lawn doesn't get too comfortable =). If it's anything like last year, rest of the evening will pretty much be very fuzzy and a lot of fun. We will see...

Saturday 12.7

Hungggg... overrr.... like a bitch.... Most probably. Well that should be fixed with a few beers methinks, old trick and it never fails! Next to the artist plans...

14:00 Diablo. Might go see them if I'm not feeling too lazy. Love their music and their live is not bad, but I've seen them a dozen times, last time just a week ago in Tuska.

15:00 Discard. Going to see them for sure. In Tuska they were missing their other guitarist and I damn sure hope he'll get better in time. This band should be a damn killer performing in their home town.

16:00 Heaven Shall Burn. Fuck me sideways. This is what I've been waiting for since the release of their 2004 album Antigone. The absolutely fucking best band in the world. Easily. No shit. I expect nothing less than a complete murder from them. Also will be fun to see if they can live up to my expectations ;P. Highlight of the weekend. Definately.

17:00 phew no interesting bands, time to go back to the campsite and have a bit of rest after hsb's gig.

18:00 Converge. Haven't listened to them much on album, but I'm pretty damn sure they're a killer live band. Must see for anyone interested in some good hardcore. Hope there's still some juices left in me to give it a good mosh =)

19:00 another break, more beer, more rest.

20:00 Cult of Luna Good chill stuff for the evening. Expecting a lot from them.

21:00 Cause for Effect one of the more unorthodox grindcore bands out there. Two guys? Bass and drums? Hell yeah! (Also from my home city so gotta see them =)

22:00 -> Who knows, what do finns do on a festival anyway? ;)


Sunday 13.7

Hung over again, and won't be fixing it since I gotta drive in the evening... Hurrrgghhhh the pain...

15:00 Mad Sin. Maybe. Haven't really listened to their music but the gig should be interesting enough.

16:00 Turisas. Big Maybe. Heard they're live performance is great but I'm not too much into their music.

18:00 Medeia. Hell yes. Another band from my home city Tampere. Awesome bunch and the music they play works awesome live. I also somewhat like the new touch Rotten Sound's Keijo brought to the band with his vocals. Still miss the old vocalist Teemu Karjalainen a bit tho.

19:00 Mogwai. Yeah yeah call me emo but I think their music is pretty good stuff to chill to. Defo gonna see them if we haven't packed our shit and left already. Gonna be a long ride back too and some of us have to be at work on Monday.

21:00 Comeback Kid. Bah I'd really like to see them, but we've probably left Joensuu already at this point. Damn long distances... mehh....

Thu 21 Feb – Cause for Effect, Rotten Sound, Disfear

I showed up quite early to see all tha bands, something that ain't that common nowadays for me. I was delighted to see the Disfear/Rotten Sound shirt stand in all its brilliance. A lot (and I mean a lot) of great looking designs for a bargain, almost a steal. I walked in wearing two Rotten Sound shirts, so I thought it would be only fair to concentrate on the Disfear part. The t-shirt was 12 euros and the cd 10 euros, that's almost nothing. Thanks for the fan-driven scope, I appreciate it.

Cause for Effect was ok, but a little tough on the head. It's a weird form of bass & drum fusion jazz gone berserk and lost in the dimension grind. They played 30 songs and my threshold was at 25 songs. Still, quite nice and the speaks between the songs were killer.

Disfear was fucking divine. They had an amazing sound, ok lights and more stage charisma than Santa Claus on speed. A definitive highlight for the day. Tompa Lindberg was very thankful towards the audience and the band seemed genuinely happy to go live with the new material. They played a good mix of old and new, but of course focusing on the new album Live the Storm. The set was brilliant in length and texture, absolutely nothing to complain of.

Rotten Sound entered the stage after Disfear and delivered a good and healthy dose of friendly audal violence. The material was CYCLES-focused naturally and the songs kicked nutsack live. Rotten Sound also delivered a great sound, something which I was utterly pleased about. The "new" drummer Sami Latva seemed to fit in the band like a glove and the tightness of the sound was almost possible to clench in your fist. Three thumbs up!
