Here I go again. Now here's my personal top ten bands. I'd make them all #1... however, that doesn't work with a top ten list. I like doing these. Yeah, expect more top ten lists.
1.
Cannibal Corpse
I got into CC back in the late 90's. My former best friend had a tape of
Vile on a cassette tape around 1996-1997. I listened to it over at his house and I was totally amazed by them. I was basically just listening to
Metallica and various rock bands at the time. I never heard anything this extreme, intense and awesome like CC before.
I learned that this cassette tape originated from my good friend
Tom Howell, who later got me into other bands. He had it first, then he gave it to this guy and then the guy left it at my former best friend's house. My ex-best friend was not really into
death metal and it was just a phase for him. However, I really wanted to get more into it.
I remember one night some time (circa 1998) on the computer I listened to a sample on allmusic.com of an earlier CC recording (might have been
Butchered at Birth. I was kind of scared of the vocals, to be brutally honest. I really found it a bit disturbing. I wanted to get more into and I didn't want to be afraid of it. So I listened to it more and more. Obviously, it doesn't bother me anymore.
I didn't buy my first CC album until later. I purchased
Gallery of Suicide sometime in the early 2000's. I listened to it often and then I got more CC albums. Yup they officially became my favorite band of all-time as time went by.
2.
Death
Basically one of the pioneers of the genre I love.
Chuck Schuldiner is the brainchild of this excellent band. Without him, there is no Death. I got into Death around 1999-2001. Tom Howell got me into them and several other bands. The first album I listened to was
Individual Thought Patterns in Tom's old bedroom. I was highly impressed by this. Death got me more into death metal.
3.
Atheist
Another band that Tom got me into. This band really impressed me. The first
technical death metal. They are the most technical death metal band there is. For a while they were my #1 top band (now it's CC). I loved their blend of death metal and jazz. I had the opportunity to see them live Sunday July 12, 2009 (check out my review floating around somewhere). They were amazing and it was the highlight of 2009 for me. They really kicked a lot of ass and I will see them again.
4.
Obituary
They are really really great death metal band. They claim to be the heaviest band in the world. I don't know when or how I got into them. I will say that I really got into them by 2005 when they released
Frozen in Time. After that, I just kept on buying more and more by them. Totally impressive band. I'm hoping to see them live Tuesday September 29th, 2009.
5.
Metallica
The band that got me into
heavy metal. If I never listened to them, I would have never gotten into it. For my 10th birthday, my cousins gave me two CDs. One of them was
Ten and the other was
Master of Puppets. You know which one I favored the most. The rest is all history and I'm a heavy metal maniac forever.
6.
Slayer
I remember buying my first Slayer album. It was
Decade Of Aggression. I was so happy to get it. I knew about Slayer, but never got into their music until that one day. I think this was sometime in 1998 or 1999. I'm not too sure on that. Well they're one of the greatest bands in the world. Hell yeah!
7.
Megadeth
I got into them sometime in the early 2000's. I thought they were better than Metallica (now I say they're equal). I remember the first album I bought was
The System Has Failed the day it was released sometime in September in 2004. I was into it, but then I found other Megadeth albums that totally slayed it like
So Far, So Good... So What! and
Rust in Peace. Yeah these guys rule and I got more and more into them, because my boyfriend has gotten into them lately.
8.
Gorguts
An extremely excellent tech. death metal band. I really like their first couple of albums. Good stuff!
9.
Carnage
Yet another band Tom was into. He told me about 'em years back, but didn't get into them until last year. I don't know why I didn't listen to them earlier. They're an incredible
swedish death metal band.
10.
S.O.D.
MOMO!
That's my personal top ten bands. Hope ya liked reading it!
