  • Dirty Three RAGE guest programmers!!!

    Out 7 2008, 13h51 por BlackCoffeeDuck

On the 19th August 2006 Dirty Three guest programmed RAGE. Dirty Three is my favourite band. And RAGE is a late night Aussie TV show which invites bands or artists to pick favourite songs or video clips or the video clips of their favourite songs. At this time it was Dirty Three’s last full Aussie tour for the new album Cinder which was a year old anyway. So writing now means it has been almost five years since a new Dirty Three album. At the moment bands like Portishead and The Drones are my favourite bands but off course both have pulled out new albums this year. Portishead took ten years for Third but it is one of the greatest albums ever. But I hope Dirty Three don’t take that long for a new album.

Warren Ellis has joined Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and started a new band with Nick Cave called Grinderman. Jim White is playing for Cat Power, PJ Harvey, Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, Beth Orton, Nina Nastasia so he’s a drummer for hire for anyone he wants to play for. Mick Turner has been the quietest but has had solo albums and painting exhibitions. Dirty Three have played together a few times but these shows are getting less and less. Since this tour they have done Chinese tour, curated the ATP festival in England and played festival shows in France, Spain, Australia and the last one being The End of the Road festival in England. So there haven’t broke up but just haven’t done anything new for a long time. Anyone who has not seen the Dirty Three DVD which came out last year should check it out because it’s the closest to a new album and one of the greatest music docos and live show double DVD ever.

Anyway here what Dirty Three picked that night -
    Nina Simone - TocarRevolution
    Erykah Badu - TocarTyrone
Ol' Dirty Bastard - I Got Your Money
    Cat Power - Living Proof
    Deerhoof - TocarWrong Time Capsule
Art of Fighting - Reasons Are All I Have Left
Joanna Newsom - TocarSprout And The Bean
Art of Fighting - The Unappreciate
Smog - TocarI Feel Like The Mother Of The World
Joel Silbersher - Through the manoeuvres
    Tendrils - Soaking Red
Joel Silbersher - Flappin' On A Hook
Russell Morris - TocarSweet Sweet Love
    Robert Forster - Baby Stones
Palace Brothers - Ohio River Boat Song
    Crow - Railhead
Jerry Lee Lewis - Whole Lotta Shakin'
Them - TocarBaby Please Don't Go
Canned Heat - TocarOn The Road Again
Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band - TocarIce Cream for Crow
Beasts of Bourbon - TocarWords from a Woman to Her Man
Ed Kuepper - The Way I Made You Feel
Dave Graney with the White Buffaloes - Robert Ford On The Stage
    Dragon - TocarGet That Jive
Slade - Get Down & Get With It
Rose Tattoo - Rock & Roll Outlaw
    God - My Pal
    The Saints - TocarRun Down
Sex Pistols - TocarAnarchy in the U.K.
The Only Ones - TocarAnother Girl Another Planet
    The Stooges - TocarLoose
    Laughing Clowns - Holy Joe
The Reels - Bad Moon Rising
    Jimmy Cliff - TocarReggae Night
Bob Dylan - Things Have Changed
    The Who - Can't Explain
The Birthday Party - Release the Bats
    Einstürzende Neubauten - TocarHalber Mensch

Well what happens next is RAGE plays all of the Dirty Three video clips which you don’t really get to see that often. Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds videos follow that night too. If anyone knows what the Dirty Three are up to now please let me know. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did.

  • Missing my stereo

    Jul 4 2008, 17h58 por netclectic

So I've been working in Ottawa, Canada for the past 6 weeks now and I'm really missing my home stereo :( The charger for my mp3 player isn't working and to make matters worse the sound card on my laptop is goosed so I can't even listen with the terribly bad built in speakers.

My only respite has been Chez 106, Ottawa's classic rock radio station. I feel like I've really got to know Doc and Woody from the morning show and I ought to buy them a beer for keeping me sane.

Thankfully though I managed to pick up a full pass for the Ottawa Bluesfest. Last night I managed to catch some of Secret Machines, Taj Mahal, The Blind Boys of Alabama and The Tragically Hip. Over the next 10 days I'm mostly looking forward to Hamell on Trial, Richard Thompson, Canned Heat, Primus, Brian Wilson and Ray Davies and lots besides!!

And then it'll only be 4 more weeks to go and my ears wont know what's hit them (and neither will the neighbours!!).

  • How varied is my music taste?

    Jun 20 2008, 13h49 por peteratkin

First, make a list of your top-20 artists overall. Then, for each of these artists, add the 8 most similar artists to your list. Delete any duplicates, count up the number of entries on your list and this will give you some idea of how eclectic your listening habits are. A score of 9 represents an extremely unvaried musical taste while a 180 represents an extremely varied one.

  • UN KUARTITO's tour diary: the final episode for 2008!

    Mai 7 2008, 11h33 por UeberseeRecords

They've kept us posted on life on the road, they've shared background stories with us and they've conquered our ears and hearts on their European tour - thanks, gracias and Danke for that! Un Kuartito is back in Buenos Aires now and they're already working at new material - we can't wait compedres!! Hasta la proxima!

Ok, Kontanz was a good concert, people dance and some old faces from old tours and also from concerts that we left behind. Aftershow we talked with them and we were the last ones to go, wrap the back line and to sleep.

Next morning before take the ferry to the other side of the lake, we walk around the Bodense lake, and then to Lindau another old and familiar place. That concert we share stage with SuperSKAnk, nice fellows and after them everybody to dance, great response from the crowd, Club Vaudeville always nice to us and specially the food, what a chefs they have there!!!.

Long way to Jena and the place: Kassablanca. Wow!!! around 800 people, xlnt sound, stage a wild party in a packed place. Next morning back to Reutlingen and again for third time in this nice city with a day off before the concert, so everybody to buy some presents for the families. The concert was good, wasn't full only half, for a monday is OK and with good feelings that is more important.
Augsburg was our next stop and this time to the city were live our friend and promoter Manne. Good to see him again a warm hearted person that always took care of us. Again the place was full an a lot of students from Spain that come to see a latin band that sing in their own tongue, also friends from Munich came. The concert finished late and to bed because the next day to Switzerland and the old town of Fribourg.

This city is very old and we visit the old town next morning before return to Augsburg for a second gig, but first the concert was packed, of course the venue was little but were so many people that some stayed outside to only listen the concert. The concert at Augsburg was in a school and again our friends of Munich and the new friends from Spain showed up, a very good concert that we finished very late. Thanks Manne!

2 more concerts to go and back to Switzerland, back on the roads, as usual we got stop and the polizei start to look for drugs and guns, what they think we are????. Of course they didn't find nothing except: candies and some beers, two bottles of wine, and autographed picture of the outlaw Pretty Boyd Floyd, 3 machine guns, 5 rifles, 1 bazooka and my personal Magnum 44 the replica of Dirty Harry so I said: Do you feel lucky? So do ya punk!!!. What and assholes this bavarian Polizei.
They let's go after checking documents but they took a long time and after them the swiss border also stop us, so we got to the caffe Mokka very very late almost minutes before they open the doors.
Long time friend and owner Bert was there and also Andreas that they gave us a hand and in minutes we set up, we made sound and ready to roll. Bert is a very cool person, lot of experience and a kind of groovy collector that he put all as decoration at his place. If Andy Warhol were alive I'm sure that they become instant friends. Good concert and always Caffe Mokka take good care of the bands we appreciete that.

Finally the last concert in Jona, Susanne and Rodolfo were the organizers, very good concert and specially the last one of the tour, friends from Fribourg showed up and Julio from Zurich (well originally from Peru), he is part of our famly a very long time friend that always is ready to work and gave a hand, with him the end of the tour was complete.

Next morning with all our bags we travel non stop to Frankfurt airport, we left Jenny the minibus with some guy from the rental company that he woud return the backline to Gate to hell. Happy goodbyes and the band start the check in were in the meantime Ana Sol and this reporter took the flight to Barcelona. Here we close the log tour and as always some music were the one that were there all the time pumping the ears of everybody. In the past was Seeed first album, this Eurotour 2008 was and old band from Los Angeles, "Canned Heat", On the road again the leit motiv song and Remember Woodstock was always in our brains and singing everytime. A big thank you for Canned Heat drummer Fito de la Parra that he gave me that cd long time ago and make this long driving road much shorter. Keep rockin' Fito!!!!!.
    That's all folks

  • Life on the road: UN KUARTITO's tour diary - Part 2!

    Mar 7 2008, 7h10 por UeberseeRecords

This is the second part for Un Kuartito's tour diary!

OK, here we are back again and as Canned Heat used to sing: on the road again!

Kiel was a good show, the people were great and everybody dance, we received friends from Lübeck so that complete the party. Also were a lot of Latin guys from different parts living at this north and cold city and they were very happy so they promise to come to the net show. Thanks Carlos you are my carnalito.

Next stop Hamburg and the Hafenklang, rainy as usual but what the heck is The Beatles town, so we arrived very early and there was Lars a warm and very tall German promoter that speak Spanish and was Andrea and Siri that they make it us feel at home. Concert packed and we have a great time, we got to come back here. Thank you Hamburg, thank you Lars, thank you Siri.

Next stop Hannover, Übersee home so double opportunity to be there with friends. Henning Übersee head man), show up with records, friends and co-workers so everything ready to rock the joint. We sleep at the same place so afterwards we stay there with more Latin immigrants and old friends, interviews, TV, everybody was there and the place was almost full and was MONDAY, incredible.

Karlsruhe, 5 hours drive to this legendary place were Dio, Fish, Mike Patton, Biohazard also play. Jörg, Kyle and Vivian were there so unload and sound check fast so we can have dinner with the excellent food that Vivian made. The concert was good and Martin our lead vocal and bass was with some fever for the last days so he made a good effort to put a good show, the rest of the band made double effort too. At the end everybody was happy and the people came to buy records, t shirts, pins etc... Thanks Substage for a good evening.

Next morning after have breakfast with Jörg we walked a little bit looking for internet and record stores and then head up to Wermelskirchen. Snow on our way but didn't stop us, we made it in time
and there was Steini and Carmen to receive us. The AJZ is a place that are making concerts for the last 17 years and at that place came bands like The Offspring, Green Dayy, NOFX, Wisecräcker, Laurel Aitken and many many more. The concert was good half of the venue with people and some technicals problem during the show, at least Martin is already well. We stayed for a while and then went to the bedrooms to sleep because next stop is Siegen and the famous Vortex.

Siegen concert is done, finish and a good feeling. Not too many people but from almost the first song they start to dance. After the concert people bought records, t-shirts and they really love the band, taking pictures with the musicians, autographs, guau feeling like rock stars NEH,!!!! just regular persons doing what we love to do, made people happy and a little bit more. So is time to sleep tomorrow we are going to Netherlands and for Un Kuartito is the first time but that is gonna be another story. So long for now

    Continuara
