SAN DIEGO, Ca. – February 2007…CAGE, just the name implies the image of unbreakable steel and an inescapable trap. The perfect moniker for the heavy metal leader of the next phase of heavy rock music. Critics and fans alike have tried to label or classify this 5 piece group from the glistening shores of San Diego, California, with terms like “pure millennium metal”, “classic metal for the new age” or “modern day power metal”. Whatever you want call them, you should also add “contagious and infectious”, as they inspire people to continue to press replay when the cd is in their stereo, and “ let’s go see them again” when they play live.
ImageIn 1992 as grunge, despair, and flannel shirts pushed the arena metal sound of the 80’s into the realm of extreme un-coolness, ironically CAGE was born. Some bands are great musicians but just don’t have “it”, that magic that makes certain performers special. CAGE has that “it”, and it comes from following their musical hearts in an uncompromising way right from their earliest beginnings. They could have tried to follow the 3 or 4 different musical trends that have come and gone since then, but instead they wrote songs that inspired that feeling that only the sound of heavy metal can deliver.

you guys who are bashing the metal band for stealing the name realize that they have been around since 1992 right? The rapper didnt appear appear on record until 1993, and that was a guest vocal. That may seem close but realize that the metal band was going by the name Cage since the day they were formed, whereas the rapper didnt adopt his stage name until a few years after this guest vocal. I'm not bashing rap in any way, I like both genres, I'm just trying to educate.

I read a similar interview and I can't really see Cage mentiong acting black or not... I think it was likely to be taken out of context. He'll be well in the knowledge colour has nothing to do with any of this. I think the new sound just demonstrates a new direction in his life. Each album has led to the sound of DFM. Listen to them in order of which they came out and you can see a steady progression. Love it or hate it

Depart From Me was just kind of cheesy to me. His mindset behind it was kind of fucked also. In an interview he was talking about no longer "Acting Black?" Dude, black or white has nothing to do with hip-hop. It's one thing to stop dressing like you're from the hood, and even getting off of drugs and changing your lyrics up. It's another thing to ditch hip-hop in favor for this pretentious indie/hipster sound and THEN act as if the people who have a problem with it are closed minded and idiotic. I mean, even even Eyedea & Abilities stayed closer to hip-hop than Cage did and they went for an indie rock influence too! Also, Sean Martin didn't really add anything good to the mix either. Hells Winter was a good middlepoint, but Depart from Me was just stupid.
