Track 10,000, and a too short list
Jun 12 2007, 9h51 por Nagaremono
well, it was
Rock It For Me, courtesy of the cool for cats tag.
actually it was
Wailing which for some reason wasn't scrobbled, just like a Tony Bennett track that also didn't find it's way to the charts, so maybe the whole counting is off... (anyway, you should really check wailing, it's just a lovely track and it got some cool sounding vinyl pops and crackling sounds)
Track 10,000 is also a chance to mention several artists that i discovered thanks to some very nice friends and neighbors, groups and various last.fm radios (the list is of course incomplete and have no particular order):
Neko Case
Radio Birdman
The Black Keys
Lou Christie
Marie Laforet( or is it Marie Laforêt?)
Jacqueline Taieb
Theo Parrish
Jacques Dutronc
Alexander Robotnick
AUX 88
Robert Hood
Kenny Larkin
Cacka Israelsson
Immortal Technique
Son House
April March
Blind Willie McTell
Georg Philipp Telemann
John Fahey
Mohammed Rafi
Os Mutantes
Bukka White
Al Caiola
Felix Kubin
Armando Trovaioli
Messer Chups
The Langley Schools Music Project
Vive la Fête
Lill Lindfors
and it goes on and on...
i'm sure track 15,000 will bring some more new interesting names:) -

Take your top 20 artists. For each of these artists, collect the top 5 similar artists. The resulting number of unique artists is your eclectic score. If the score is small (extreme = 5) your musical preferences are very limited, and if it is large (larger than 80, extreme = 100), then you have an eclectic musical preference. You can compute your own score at http://anthony.liekens.net/pub/scripts/last.fm/eclectic.php

So, inspired by this journal entry from Sean Antonio (and using a script generously supplied by Keef06) I decided to catch the craze and evaluate the extensiveness of my musical taste.
The result: 137/160, which is apparently kind of extensive.
Wide, but not deep. Most of those artists aren't that obscure (I actually own records by all but twenty or thirty), just scattered across an apparently broad spectrum.

I am a little late updating this, I know. I have been caught up in a deathly spiral of late night trips to Mexico for tequila and lobster, hating the incompetence of Wells Fargo, among other unmentionable circumstances.
As always you can view the archived playlists at:

For my tardiness, I am included two videos! yes two. the first is a short clip of lil wayne, arguably the best rapper alive. he says he is. and I really do agree with him. The second video is a long clip of Frank Zappa successfully defending First Amendment rights on an old crossfire, this is worth watching, even though the counterpoint guy from the Wash Times is obviously retarded.
