  • My Top 20 Tracks of 2009.

    Nov 22 2009, 21h03 por bikescene00

    20. Rave On - M. Ward
An amazing Buddy Holly cover. The harmonies and clapping are perfect.

    19.TocarSatellite Skin- Modest Mouse
After the disappointing "We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank" Modest Mouse returns with a great EP.

    18. TocarSylvia- The Antlers
A beautifully sad song. The reference to Sylvia Plath makes this song even better. "Sylvia, get your head out of the oven."

    17. I Feel A Change Comin' On- Bob Dylan
A gem on Together Through Life.

    16. TocarWet Hair- Japandroids
    "We run the gauntlet
    Let's get to France
So we can French kiss some French girls"

    15. My Body's a Zombie for You- Dead Man's Bones
This song is amazing. It was so great that I had to edit my top 20 of 2009. I just ordered the album. Hopefully the rest of the songs are this good.

    14. Roosevelt Room - Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band
Politically charged and originally a Bright Eyes song. This protest song shows why Conor Oberst is a lyrical genius. "The working poor you've been pissing on
    are doing double shifts tonight"

    13. TocarVices- Brand New
A ridiculous opening track that will most likely make you jump on first listen.

    12. Genisis 3:23- The Mountain Goats
In a way, this song reminds me of the opening credits to a 90's sitcom, but it's so good.

    11.French Navy- Camera Obscura
A sweet song about losing love.

    10. What Have I Done?- Cursive
Tim Kasher - stop being so hard on yourself. We finally get another classic Tim "HA HA HA!"

    9.Ugly on the Inside- Owen
"You look like the goddamn living dead"

    8. Cardinal Rules- Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin
A preview of the their new album. I hope the entire album is as good as this track.

    7.Wilco (the Song)- Wilco
    "Wilco will love you baby"

6.TocarYoung Adult Friction- The Pains of Being Pure at Heart
A song about having sex in a library. Enough said.

    5.Summertime Clothes- Animal Collective
Perfect song for the summer. Too bad I didn't hear it until fall.

    4. When We Were Alive- The Thermals
"Spit on our graves, we don't mind"

    3. TocarMightiest of Guns- A.A. Bondy
A.A. Bondy is at his best when he keeps it simple. This track sounds like it would fit perfectly on American Hearts.

    2.- Two Weeks- Grizzly Bear
I feel lame for choosing the single from Veckatimest which is an amazing album, but this song is easily my favorite. Watch the video if you haven't already.

1.Ahead Of The Curve- Monsters of Folk
It is hard to choose a favorite from the Monsters of Folk album, but the final chorus in this song blows me away every time.

  • Music Game 2

    Ago 13 2009, 4h40 por clizabelle

The “official” rules, word for word:
Step 1: Put your music player on shuffle.
Step 2: Post the first line (or first and second line if it’s completely impossible)
from the first 30 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing.
Step 3: Bold Strike out the songs when someone guesses both artist and track correctly.
Step 4: Looking them up on Google or any other search engine is CHEATING!
Step 5: If you like the game post your own!

    1. Today is a winding road, that’s taking me to places that I didn’t want to go
    2. He left no time to regret
    3. Hey, don’t go to sleep now, it’s not time for that
    4. I hope you hang yourself with your H&M scarf
    5. Don’t want to be an American Idiot
    6. Hello, tell me you know, yeah you’ve figured me out.
    7. Put me in a special school, ‘cause I am such a fool
    8. When I met you you were on your back, we still spend most afternoons like that.
    9. Dearest, though you’re the nearest to my heart.

    11. The Atlantic was born today, and I’ll tell you how
    12. Oh what a noble distinguished collection of fine little friends you’ve made.
    13. My sweet lord
    14. I don’t get many things right the first time
    15. I walk a lonely road, the only one that I have ever known.
    16. I got birds in my ears and a devil on my shoulder
    17. I’ve been driving around town, with my head spinning around
    18. We're a sorry bunch, The odds of it are such a drag my darling
    19. Long ago, just like the hearse, you die to get in again
    20. And I wanna build buildings high for you
    21. Clock strikes upon the hour, and the sun begins to fade
    22. We can do it softcore, if you want, but you should know I take it both ways.
    23. I can ride my bike with no handlebars
    24. You don’t realize how much I need you, love you all the time and never leave you
    25. If you knew, what you do, when no ones in the dark room but me and you
    26. So let me tell you about this girl I know, Molly Makeout whoa-oh-oh
    27. Don’t let it go away, this feeling has got to stay
    28. Coming out of my cage and I’ve been doing just fine.

  • if crying and holding on and flying on the ground is wrong then i'm sorry to let you…

    Jul 19 2009, 14h16 por whenitthunders

    1. What's your favorite song by 15?
TocarHot Burrito #1, probably. So, so beautiful.

    2. How did you get into 20?
Well, one thing led to another, basically. I got into Poco when I was pretty much obsessed with Buffalo Springfield. I loved the sound of Richie Furay's voice, and at the same time I was going through a country-rock phase, so I was all over these guys' albums. They didn't disappoint.

    3. Who is your favorite member in 1?
Roger Waters. Obvious answer is obvious.

    4. What’s your favorite lyric bit by 29?
By Michael Nesmith & The Second National Band? It's either Wax Minute or In The Afternoon. Probably the first.

    5. Have you ever seen 22 live?
I haven't seen Roger Waters live, no, are you trying to make me cry?

    6. What's your favorite album from 10?
For purely sentimental reasons it's A Quick One. Not the best, but it was the first one I heard and the one that made me fall in love with them. Plus, it's so much fun, you can't not love it. Quadrophenia deserves at least a mention though.

    7. Do you own any merchandise from 3?
No, I don't own any Humble Pie merchandise. I do own a couple of albums though.

    8. What is a good memory you have of 7?
All of my Herman's Hermits memories are good memories. If I had to choose one to write here, I guess it'd be the time I found that greatest hits CD dirt cheap.

    9. Is there a member of the same age as you in 2?
No, all of Buffalo Springfield's members are pretty old/dead. They were around my age when they were in the band, though, does that count?

    10. When did you first get into 8?
I've always known of him (I have the Simpsons to thank for that), but I only got really into Michael Nesmith's solo career just recently.

    11. Who likes 4 along with you?
Lots of people like Donovan. Sadly, I haven't met those people in person. Oh except that guy who sells CDs, I guess. And Valeria.

    12. Which song did you first hear from 16?
Mmm, do Beatles tunes written and sung by him count? It's either While My Guitar Gently Weeps or Here Comes the Sun. If those don't count, it's probably I'd Have You Anytime.

    13. What song made you fall in love with 5?
Who doesn't fall in love with The Monkees after watching the show?

    14. Which song do you not like by 18?
Ah, someone's going to kill me for this, I just know it. I'm not really into The Beatles in general.

    15. Why do you like 14's songs?
Because not only are they fun, they're also very good. Everyone should listen to The Small Faces every once in a while, if only because Steve Marriott had one of the greatest voices I've ever heard.

    16. Where did you first hear 6?
I don't know, to be honest. Led Zeppelin is one of those bands you grow up listening to everywhere, even if you don't know it's them. Everyone knows at least Stairway to Heaven or Black Dog.

    17. How long was 19 a singer before you liked them?
Well, considering Janis Joplin died way before I was born, I'd say her whole life.

    18. Does 13 have a song that gives you a bad memory?
Not really, no. Most of Buddy Holly's songs fill me with joy rather than bad memories.

    19. When did you get into 17?
Only recently. It took me 20 years to get into Janis Joplin, for some reason. I tend to ignore female singers, to be honest.

    20. How long have you been into 9?
Michael Nesmith is featured so much on this list, I'm going to just stop answering questions about him.

    21. If 11 had a concert 300 miles away, would you drive there to see them?
Yes. If Cream had a concert 300 miles away I'd even learn how to drive.

    22. How many CDs do you own of 12?
Only 2 or 3. I'm sure I own Beggar'S Banquet and AFTERMATH, but my memory fails me after that.

    23. Does 21 have a song that makes you cry?
Nope. Wow, and I thought everyone had at least one song that reduces me to tears. Apparently the Red Hot Chili Peppers are the exception to this rule.

    24. Does 27 have a song that makes you happy?
Yes, TocarDominoes and TocarHere I Go are two of them. Most of the songs from his days with Pink Floyd make me happy too.

    25. Does 23 have a song that makes you smile?
Yes, Peter Frampton has a song that makes me smile. More than one, actually.

    26. What's the last song you've listened to from 28?
I have no idea what the last song by John Entwistle I listened to is.

    27. Is there a song by 32 that you've listened to more than 30 times?
Nope. I only got Stephen Stills's albums like 3 weeks ago and haven't had the time. If his songs with Buffalo Springfield count, then yes. I've also listened to Suite: Judy Blue Eyes more than 30 times, I guess.

    28. What is a song from 50 that you've only listened to once?
I have Peter Tork and Shoe Suede Blues, Jaco Pastorius, Sly & The Family Stone and Charlie Watts all tied for number 50. Even though last.fm says I haven't, I've heard their songs more than once, except for Sly & The Family Stone. I gave their album Whole New Thing a listen and didn't like it very much.

    29. Is there a song you are sick of hearing by 24?
Nope, David Gilmour's work is the kind of music I usually don't get sick of hearing.

    30. What song got you into 40?
Well, I'm not really into The Beach Boys, I just listen to Pet Sounds every once in a great while. As for the Faces and John Paul Jones, it wasn't a song that got me into them.

    31. What is your favorite single by 25?
Was TocarPsycho Daisies released as a single?

    32. If 49 hated you, what would you do?
    There is no 49.

    33. What would you say if 42 or one of the members from 42 asked you out?
    No 42 either :(

    34. Would you care if 41 had a boyfriend/girlfriend?
No 41... Wow, this is starting to get really boring.

    35. Who has the best voice in 46?
Seriously, stop it with the ties, last.fm!

    36. Do you think 26 is/are good looking?
I guess Chris Hillman wasn't bad looking. Otherwise no, I don't think The Byrds are good looking.

    37. How many times have you listened to your favorite song by 36?
I don't have a favorite song by Peter Tork & James Lee Stanley

    38. How many CDs do you own of 30?
2 solo and another 2 with the Red Hot Chili Peppers. John Frusciante albums are hard to find here.

    39. Is there a song from 38 that makes you mad?
No, Gram Parsons' songs don't make me mad.

    40. Which member from 31 do you want to see go solo? If 31 is only one artist, what would you do if they joined a group?
Well, 31 is Ronnie Lane, so this question is pretty pointless. He was in several bands and he went solo, so. If he joined a group now I'd be freaked out, but that's mostly because he'd be a zombie.

    41. What does your favorite song from 48 remind you of?
    48 doesn't exist.

    42. Did you hate 43 at first?
No, I never hated Rick Wright or Iron Butterfly. You can't hate people who make songs that are 20 minutes long and never get boring.

    43. Does your best friend also listen to 33?
No, my best friend doesn't listen to Crosby, Stills & Nash. She should, though.

    44. Do you think your parents would like 37?
My dad probably liked at least one Jefferson Airplane song back in the day, but my mom would probably hate them.

    45. Does 47 have a song that makes you want to dance?
The Kinks and Queen do. I've only heard one of Steve Marriott's solo albums, and the songs weren't exactly for dancing, but if we're counting The Small Faces (I hate that last.fm adds the "the" to their name) songs, then yes.

    46. Have you ever seen 34 in person?
No, I haven't seen Derek and the Dominos in person. I wasn't even alive at the time...

    47. Do you like 44's name?
    There's no 44.

    48. Is there someone in 45 that you want to go out with?
There's a two-way tie here. All of them are old, so no. If I'd been around when Roger Waters & Eric Clapton were young (except Yardbirds!Eric Clapton), then yes. The Animals not so much, they were all ugly.

    49. Do you know anyone that hates 39?
I don't know anyone that hates Les Fleurs de Lys. I don't know anyone that knows Les Fleurs de Lys.

    50. Have you ever danced to a song from 35?
Peter Tork and Shoe Suede Blues and Sly & The Family Stone, yes. Jaco Pastorius and Charlie Watts no, because how the hell does one dance to that?

  • Bob Dylan

    Jul 10 2009, 14h23 por FunkyNunRiot

The whole world loves Bob Dylan and is conviced that he is one of the best and most important musicians in the world. That he achieved much, that his lyrics are matchless and that he cannot be compared to anybody.

That is not true. In my opinion he is just another small event in the long row of harmonica-playing singer/songwriters. Born in 1941 (as Robert Allen Zimmermann) as a son of working-class immigrants, he soon becomes an important rock influence in the 1960s. The question is why.
Sure, he worked a lot, disclosed lots of albums with his singing and his guitar and piano playing (later of course also the infamous harmonica).
But noone got the way he did this. Most of this songs were covers of some other songs, published 10 years earlier. He tuned them, today you would call this a remix, still everyone was delighted.
But then it was the situation I cannot really judge, because I wasn't even born then.

The time I can evaluate is now. Now I am absolutely sure he is a decadent snob. If you've read the interviews he has lately given to the Rolling Stone for example you would understand it. Talking like his ass would be the only one on the throne of rock makes me really angry. I think in his eyes he is like the wise Gandalf or something alike.
"You know, I was on the last concert of Buddy Holly."
"There is this strong connection between me and Neil Young."
I really don't have everything that he said in my mind because it was just too stupid to read.
Thank god his tactics of covering other songs weren't always successfull, like the old, strongly criticized album Selfportrait.
And so I am pretty sure his new piece of art, Together Throuh Life won't be a bestseller.
I really dont want to annoy his fans, because I really do not dislike his music, just the way he presents it.
So, Bob would you please be a bit less lordly? And put the harmonica away, please.
