Recent purchases (Numero Uno)
Abr 3 2011, 16h37 por M60Berserker
I am bored, so I guess I'm gonna start writing what CD's I bought, like so many others do.
I am also gonna write my impressions with them, and maybe follow up next time, if they grow or die on me. I'll also try and put up some youtube videos for each album.
This week I bought 2 CD's from the Italian label Cruz Del Sur Music, even though only one is actually released by them.
First up is Defender of the Crown by Brocas Helm.

Title track of this awesometastical disc
This band is considered somewhat legendary. I am not exactly sure why. They make excellent music, sure - but alot of bands do. Anyway, a few years ago I learned about them, and tried finding some CD's online. Every album was impossible to find, unless I wanted to pay like a hundred dollars for a used copy on ebay.
I just recently looked again, and found this self-released reissue of Defender of The Crown.
Have spinned the disc a couple of times now, and it is indeed excellent. … -
The 6 best countries in Heavy Metal
Mai 30 2010, 20h01 por Izzystone
This is a list of the 6 most important countries when it comes to development of heavy metal and when it comes to the metal scenes and the best music!
This is a little subjective entry, so don't complain!
1. United Kingdom
The creators of heavy metal, the original country. Metal started in the UK, and from the NWOBHM movement came the subgenres.
Notable genres: heavy metal (classic), nwobhm, doom metal, speed metal, thrash metal, black metal

2. Germany
Creators of many original classic metal bands in the 70's and 80's and also responsible for the development and forming of teutonic thrash and euro power metal.
Noteable genres: heavy metal (classic), power metal, speed metal, thrash metal, industrial metal, melodic metal, melodic hard rock

Scandinavia To Re-Invent Traditional Heavy Metal? - An Ode To 40 Years Of Metal
Fev 25 2010, 5h08 por MasterOfPizza99
As of Saturday February 13 2009, Metal’s initial offering - the reknown and revered Black Sabbath self-titled LP turned 40 years old. For fans of the music, including myself, this begs the question of who will follow this style long after the inevitable demise of the band?
You can’t kill the Metal, and we can all agree that Scandinavia is perhaps the coolest region for Metal. Do you love Death Metal, Black Metal, among other dozens of forms of Extreme Metal? A substantial cut of their asses are certainly owed to that specific region for their creations and maintenance. Do you love Traditional Heavy Metal - As in the prototypical sound of the more classical guard of the genre; pioneered by the formative works of Sabbath, Rush and Rainbow, the expansive New Wave of British Heavy Metal dream team of impact players Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Motörhead & Venom, alongside Diamond Head, Angel Witch, early-Def Leppard and Doom Metallers Witchfinder General and Pagan Altar, as well as American acts such as Pentagram… -
Holyfuckingshit, who's back?
Nov 1 2009, 22h52 por FeatherofHuginn
Whether due to the steady culmination of a cult following, fan pressure, snaky cashgrabs (*cough, cough, Pestilence, cough*), or simply the will to show the new kids on the block how it's done, waves and waves metalbands have been reforming left and right over the last few years, doing tours, releasing new material (for good or bad), and generally kicking ass. This journal is a little tool I'm going to use to keep track of who's back together, and who (in my opinion) still needs to get their ass in gear.
If you think I'm missing something please leave a comment.

Thank you Brutal Legend
Out 16 2009, 8h56 por Lysanthris
I never thought that a video game would bring to me more metal. Fortunately I was wrong.
The game Brutal Legend has introduced me to bands like Brocas Helm, who are unheard of in Australia.
It also taught me there's so many ridiculous genres out there.
So my mention of the post Brocas Helm and their album Defender of the Crown -

Eclectic Score
Mai 8 2007, 12h48 por Kaess
Take your top 20 artists. For each of these artists, collect the top 5 similar artists. The resulting number of unique artists is your eclectic score. If the score is small (extreme = 5) your musical preferences are very limited, and if it is large (larger than 80, extreme = 100), then you have an eclectic musical preference. You can compute your own score at http://anthony.liekens.net/pub/scripts/last.fm/eclectic.php
My eclectic score is currently
87/100
