  • killing time: a list of break-up songs

    Ago 3 2006, 0h02 por the_mean_reds

so today when my itunes (on shuffle) landed on Lisa Loeb's "stay," i went through an ol' 90s alternative afternoon - a guilty pleasure every now and then. makes me really wish all my old grunge stuff was on mp3s. (god i remember i had this plaid/combat boot thing going on in the 7th grade. yikes!).

anyway, so i got inspired to make a list of break-up songs (or rather, songs good for listening during break-ups). also i was thinking about a friend who is going/just went through a shitty break-up. i think i'll select the best from this list and make her a cd or something.

there's some really good stuff (e.g. the Fleming And John one-hit wonder, Ani DiFranco's gravel, Fiona Apple's sleep to dream, a lot of Rilo Kiley), as well as some cheesey stuff (e.g. Taking Back Sunday), but you know that's like comfort food sometimes). i didn't include certain r&b artists (i.e. Usher) for obvious reasons. so here it is, so far, in band-alphabetical order:

  • A Bunch of Music stuff

Okay...This is like my first Journal post (Whooohooo, anyway, I got quite a bit of new songs over the week, and decided to post my personal opinions on them.

Stacie Orricohas a new album [album]Beautiful Awakenings[/album], that was leaked to the net. Ive been a fan of her since her first album [album]Genuine[/album], so it was so awsome to listen to how much she has developed as an artist. The new album shows her dropping the pop styles of her self-titled album and adopting a more "Jazzy-R&B" style. I love this album to death, and will be first in line to buy the CD. The first single [track]Im Not Missing You[/track] was a terrible choice as a first single. Not only is it the weakest track on the Cd, it also doesnt showcase the true feeling of the album. Some of the best songs on this album are [track]Is it Me[/track], [track]Beautiful Awakening[/track], & [track]Save Me[/track]

Brandyhas a new song [track]The Jones[/track]floating around the net. The song is a traditional Brandy song. The song has an awsome mellow beat, and like almost all of Brandy songs, the lyrics are meaningful. …

#99 was a small, sickly monkey abducted from his home in the wild so that he could be experimented on in a cold, dark laboratory in Vienna, Virginia. He never even had a name, only an I.D. number that was tattooed across his chest. Day after day, #99 had large tubes shoved up his nose, down his throat, and into his stomach, where an experimental substance was then pumped. This procedure caused open wounds in #99’s throat, making him choke, gag, and vomit.

Monkeys used and abused in cruel experiments like these need your help. Click here to learn how you can help. Also, be sure to forward this alert to your friends and ask them to help save monkeys like #99.

To launch peta2’s "Save #99" campaign, the members of Alkaline Trio, Against Me!, and Silverstein all signed a petition calling on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to stop painful, and often pointless, experiments on nonhuman primates like #99. Click here to add your name to the petition, and then share it with everyone you know who is a fan of the bands.

  • My favorite artists

    Abr 30 2006, 16h48 por Babydoll724

Because I've just signed up with this account, my charts aren't really reflecting which artists I truly, deeply like the most. So here's a short survey of those I enjoy listening to more than the other artists I listen to. (Although I also like them a lot) :)

    1. Mariah Carey
Mariah is my favorite artist all time. I haven't got enough words just to describe what she means to me. She is also the only artist of who I collect every single album and single which I happen to pass by. I like her music, I like her style, she's (IMO) the greatest singer, and, last but not least, she's the best businesswoman on this planet (c'mon, she knows EXACTLY what she's doing! She plans every single move she makes, making records, movies, doing commercials, tours, having her own clothing and jewelry line - there's nothing she doesn't do and - with a few exceptions *cough*Glitter*cough* - it's all a big success!).

    2. Mary J. Blige
I bought my first Mary record ("My Life") even before I bought…
  • Albums I've Bought This Year (Part One!!!!)

    Mar 29 2006, 9h34 por mymachine

Ok i've decided to review the albums i have bought this year, so far.

    Jagged Little Pill Acoustic
10 years after the original Alanis Morissette decided to re-record her classics album 'Jagged Little Pill' in acoustic form. Although this album flopped and most people won't want to know about it, it is in fact very good and complements the original superbly. I don't know what else to say apart from it's the first album but only acoustic? It's very nice.

Highlight: Right Through You, You Oughta Know
    Lowlight: Mary Jane
Grade: Just like the first album A+

    Saints & Sinners
Second album from girl group All Saints. This is a pop album but with a slightly urban and chillout feel. The singles from the album 'Pure Shores', 'Black Coffee' and 'All Hooked Up' pretty much sum up the album. A decent pop album, apart from the latin one at the end.

Highlight: Pure Shores, Black Coffee, Distance
    Lowlight: One More Tequila
    Grade: A
