First, make a list of your top-20 artists overall. Then, for each of these artists, add the 6 most similar artists to your list. Delete any duplicates, count up the number of entries on your list and this will give you some idea of how eclectic your listening habits are. A score of 9 represents an extremely unvaried musical taste while a 120 represents an extremely varied one.

Which of your top 50 have you seen live?, and gigs coming up.

38. Something Less Than Perfect (well, almost. Andy organised a private gig just for me. haha)
40. Incubus
45. The Decemberists
48. Placebo (x3)
19/50. Not bad. considering half of my top bands are dead and/or broken up.
and on another (very lovely) note.
I got my gig tickets two days ago for:
Alkaline Trio @ Flex
Islands @ Arena (not quite as cool as The Unicorns... but almost)
Emilie Autumn @ Szene
God is an Astronaut @ B72
and I am also going to:
Francis International Airport @ Chelsea
Emiliana Torrini @ Szene
Soap&Skin @ Brut
Son, Ambulance @ B72
I don't have my ticket yet for Son, Ambulance yet. not that they are so big here, but still. You never know when shows sell out, which is simply super weird at times. I could get a guest list spot, but I DON'T LIKE GUESTLISTS! (though they are good when you are broke). Also, my friend Laura is coming to play at Arena with her band Medeia on the same day. but I can't go, because I am in love with Son, Ambulance. dilemma. what to do? I've done gig-hopping more than once (Verdena+SoKo in London, Bloc Party+These Arms Are Snakes in Vienna) and yes, it's worth the hassle. and I want to see Medeia. sooooooo... hm. Arena, B72, and some massive backstage hangout maybe? -
survey, because I don't want to do homework

My Musical Journey
Jan 3 2009, 20h14 por neesh
These albums have shaped me into the wide-ranged aficionado I am today. I grew up in a household with my ma who came to the US from the Caribbean as a young woman in the late 60's (she's a fan of Elvis Presley and the Golden Oldies as well as Hindi/Bollywood tunes in addition to Trinidadian music, Norah Jones and appreciates anyone who's "got pipes on 'em") and two much older siblings. My brother was a house/club DJ so that shit was bumping constantly and is embedded in my brain. My sister was into R&B like Tevin Campbell, Jodeci and whatnot yet also smooth jazz. I was all about solo chick singers, Disney tunes, Show Tunes, Carnival music, salsa, merengue and dance hits from all eras (especially disco and club remixes of pop hits) until the fifth grade when I got my hands on Tragic Kingdom and Razorblade Suitcase. Thus began my foray into alternative rock, interrupted only for a brief moment when I became Bad Boy records obsessed as a tween. I first heard
...Baby One More Time on Z-100 in the limo my sister rented to take my friends and I to the city to celebrate my advancement to teenage-dom. I had heard all about the seventeen year old sensation, but hadn't heard the hit until that moment. I was an instant fan. That eased my Backstreet Boys, N Sync obsession. My long-ass-term ex-boyfriend from middle school until college introduced me to the magic of the archetypes of rock. My closest childhood friend reintroduced me to hindi music. My best dude buddy exposed me to punk, ska and Nyack in my mid-teens. The ex's cousin introduced me to pop punk and The Chance. From there I've veered off into the realms of acoustic rock, post hardcore, alternative metal, new prog, downtempo, post-rock, cover songs, live music, indie rock, underground hip-hop, instrumental and psychedelic rock. I'm currently trying to expand my funk horizons. I will always have a place in my heart for soca, calypso and chutney. I find myself leaning toward more mellow (less screaming and metal -- though I really dig when those styles are tastefully sewn into a tune), insightful lyrical content with insatiable driving beats that still leave room for whinin' up. Oh and actual singing is nice too. Seems to be something recent music has lost sight of. I'm also very intrigued by the use of less common instruments such as violin, lap steel guitar, chapman stick, mandolin, warr guitar, sitar, continuum, thermin, chaturangui, stand up bass... I seek out music that makes me think and feel. I really dig concept albums (a cohesive work of art should have some form of continuity). Along those lines, I love me a good rock opera.
I would not be who I am today without these masterpieces
