Sob 28 VI – Fight This Generation

Sam się sobie dziwię że trzecia edycja imprezy
Fight This Generation była pierwszą którą uświetniłem swą jakże zacną obecnością. Co dziwniejsze trafiłem tam trochę z przypadku, a Rotofobia która miała zagrać znana mi była jedynie z kawałków odsłuchanych na myspace w dniu koncertu.

Ok.

Shit, I totally forgot to write about Regina's album release -gig...

Being fond of their previous album I was rather curious how they would hold up at a live gig. The surprise was a nice, smooth ohyes-type of experience as they turned out to be a great live act: The gig itself was nicely knit quilt of songs from both the new and old album. Even the occasional stray Kallio-geek didn't effect the experience.

Tuomo of Boys of Scandinavia popped on stage for a song aswell. A Nice, nice set all in all. Hope to see them again live.
  • Recommendations anyone?

Noticed that people have had some succes with these types of journals, so I'll give it a try too!

What do YOU think I should be listening to?

Take a look at my charts (I recommend looking further than just the top 50) and give me your bands. Some samples of their music, if not found in last.fm, would be great! Also interested in genres that are not found on my charts like hardcore punk/metalcore etc. Doom/death/goth metal I've tried, and found a few good songs but I really think it just isn't my cup of tea.

Here are some of my favourites (to get some people here).

  • I'm On A Mission...

    Ago 15 2006, 16h00 por DaytimeDilemma

...to listen atleast one song from each album I own. Except the vinyls, cause I don't have a player anymore. It's not that big of an effort, cause I only have ~330 albums (~25 Gb), nothing compared to that one guy who is listening to EVERY SINGLE song of his 17 000 song (or something like that) library.

But still (I started on sunday, now I'm in the letter R already), it's a time consuming job! And highly addictive as well. I actually haven't done anything else during these two days but listened to music. Well of course I ate and read some and went to the supermarket... But I haven't called anyone, _HAVEN'T_EVEN_SMOKED_, or went to the pub in two days... And that's quite a long time for me.

Well, has this listening experience been of any use (why does everything I do nowadays have to be something usefull? oh well)? I'd say it has, I've listen to a lot of bands I hadn't listen to in a while (The BellRays, The Stooges, CCR for example), even found some music I didn't even remember I had (Van Morrison, Talking Heads, Rush etc).

AND I've fallen in love with old favourites again (Faith No More, Kingston Wall, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden). I've been so facinated by bands like The Faint, Boys of Scandinavia and Fila Brazillia last few months that I had forgotten all about my rock/grunge/what-ever-you-wanna-call-them bands.

But, there's a lot of music yet to be played, I must continue. My only problem is that I keep getting stuck on these PERFECT albums like FNM's King For A Day..., and Soundgarden's Badmotorfinger, Extraordinary Machine by Fiona Apple etc., so my "mission" keeps sucking more hours from my day.

    Oh Well, I'm on holiday!
  • Something while I'm waiting...

    Jul 21 2006, 15h33 por Kaitju

It took me an hour but bloody hell, I managed to pick up something from one of my favourite record stores. The Pink Opaque by Cocteau Twins and Kill The Party by Finland's very own Boys of Scandinavia. These are just to get me over the weekend, I have 7 cd's incoming from CDON, so more about them later...
  • LIVE: Regina

    Fev 23 2006, 1h17 por Ephief

On February 22nd 2006 at Yo-talo, Tampere, Finland

Somehow the whole concept of Finnish alured me until yesterday. I got a track (TocarTokio) from a friend a while back, probably because I went to Japan last year, but my project kept me from listening to it. Basically, I was awestruck after hearing it.

I went to Regina's homepage and saw that they were going to play at Tampere the next day. With the tickets at only 2 euros, I had no choice but to go and see them. This all just after hearing one track. I don't normally even see that many bands live or anything. Later I found three more tracks from their homepage, so I didn't have to totally unprepared to the show.

They opened with Tokio, which I loved, and finished with Salakuvaaja (the encore). Somewhere in between they also played a cover of a Kauko Röyhkä song that made me wish I was also listening to Röyhkä and knew which song it was.

The background visuals were absolutely beautiful. Great ASCII art and nice editing of video material. The visuals fitted the music perfectly. Maybe not so suprisingly, the weakest part of the show was the singing. Still, I don't expect a live performance to be 100% in tune, so no worries there. A great performance from a band that has been playing live for just about a year.

If you like electropop (such bands as Freezepop, Ladytron, Cherry Bikini and Goldfrapp, perhaps) and happen to live in Finland (or Russia), I strongly suggest you make your way to the nearest Regina show.

The next (announced) performances by Regina:

24.02.2006 // Soundscape, Pietari, Venäjä [+Boys of Scandinavia]
    25.02.2006 // Kuningasklubi, Tavastia, Helsinki [+The Embassy]
    25.03.2006 // Ämy-klubi, Hälläpyörä, Hämeenlinna [+Mind Lift]
    12.05.2006 // Valotalo, Yo-talo, Tampere [+Tigerbombs]
