Devastating masterpiece. Only Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts ruins the mood even though it's a great song. Maybe it's there so you could take some rest from weeping.

Behind every beautiful thing there's been some kind of pain

This is easily my favourite Bob Dylan album. It's incredible.

Ha, no I bought it on the boardwalk. And it's just the regular version. I had just always been under the impression that the NY sessions WERE the regular version because of my mislabeled .mp3s

Sharenge, are you saying you found a vinyl of the NY Sessions just laying around on the beach? Sounds like a lottery win.

Turns out I've been listening to the New York sessions all along.

Can anyone explain why the vinyl version I found at the beach yesterday sounds completely different from the version I pirated?? Most of the songs are completely different versions from what I'd been listening to for a while now. And mostly not as good; I was a bit disappointed. Maybe they will grow on me...

There is one thing that is truly amazing and uplifting about this masterpiece: while it's about combating enormous pain, it's also *so* accepting of the circumstances that led to that very pain. At the same time.

It's taken me nearly 30 play throughs (don't ask me why), but I've finally 'got' this. And it's amazing.

ralfsu, have you heard John Lennon's Plastic Ono Band? That one is also quite devastating. Anyway, this album proves he certainly loved Sara Dylan quiet a bit.

This and On the Beach, anyway.

I think this is the most deeply emotional and honest album I've ever heard. It is devastating in its brilliance. [4]

ahh i love it. don't listen to it so much as the others though, a little too depressing. definitely remember listening to it on repeat crying a lot, back in the day.. seems so long ago... simple twist of fate is my favorite.
