When she said, "Don't waste your words, they're just lies"
I cried she was deaf
And she worked on my face until breaking my eyes
Then said, "What else you got left?"

Underrated song this - a nice shimmering guitar line and great storytelling. I think it was Dylan's sly way of responding to the way Lennon aped his style on "Hide Your Love Away" and "Norwegian Wood".

Homage, shot, rip-off I don't care, the 66 "Royal Albert Hall" version is musically beautiful and his delivery is outstanding. [2]

Funny...I knew about the simialirity to Norweigan Wood but only heard Lennon refer to this song as stealing from The Beatles. Didn't know it was probably on purpose. Anyway, this is the last album in which Dylan actually mattered.

no, I disagree, I like this better than norwegian wood, it's cascading organ riff alone is truly haunting and breathtaking. Yo La Tengo's cover is excellent too, despite being not that different sounding

Or, according to Wikipedia: the two tracks boast a reasonably similar melody and lyrical premise. Norwegian Wood was considered an artistic leap for Lennon, as it was his earliest story-song and boasted an obvious Dylan-influence. 4th Time Around has been seen as either a playful homage, or a satirical warning to Lennon about co-opting Dylan's well-known songwriting devices.
