I was pretty familiar with the first dozen bands, and then the list veered into "Old school traditional Doom-metal from Finland" (Minotauri) and I started to get interested. Where was this path leading? The next five bands on the list were also obscure doom-metal bands and I was really thinking highly of this list.
Then it took a turn into stoner-rock at #21. I am kind of sick of stoner-rock.
I got lost in the haze here, going around in circles. All of the bands referring to each other. I had to go to the 8th most similar artist at #41 and the 10th at #42.
But that finally got me out of that genre. And on the other side of psych/desert/stoner section are some new doom/stoner bands.
Who knows where it would go from there...

Blowback-Morning Wood Blowback is a combination of “blast from the past” rock band and contemporary stoner-rock! Blowback always hits bulls eye with their mix of 70’s rock and stonerrock. When this band turn up their amplifiers you will be glued to the wall, enforced by riff mania that no one is safe from.

Colour Haze-All Founded in 1994, Colour Haze are a contemporary three-piece German stoner/psychedelic rock band, at least in the literal sense. The band’s current lineup includes Stefan Koglek (vocals/guitar), Manfred Merwald (drums) and Philipp Rasthofer (bass). Hailing from Munich, they follow in the tradition of other classic rock trios such as Cream, Grand Funk Railroad and The Jimi Hendrix Experience.

Drunk Horse-Adult Situations Formed in 1998, Drunk Horse is a rock band from Oakland, CA. The band released several albums on Man’s Ruin Records before the label went out of business. The band then moved on to Tee Pee Records with 2003’s Adult Situations, which was followed in 2005 by In Tongues. Drunk Horse has toured extensively, in the US and Europe, and has played Austin, Texas’ South by Southwest Festival several times.

Graveyard-GraveyardGraveyard is a psychedelic blues\70’s style rock band from Gothenburg, Sweden. Born in Gothenburg, november 2006. They recorded their first two songs after about one month. After just a few months and a couple of shows they signed with Transubstans records & TeePee records. Their debut album is out now on Transubstans. The TeePee release comes a bit later this fall. The album is produced by Don Ahlsterberg

Electric Magma-Snail the Wah Electric Magma formed in 2000 in the melting pot known as Toronto, Canada. Emerging from the ashes of previous musical endeavors, the thunderous trio comprised of Tryg Smith , Tim Reesor and Tom Brouard forged ahead with their vision of sonic eruption. Halfway up the fuzzed-out sludge ladder, somewhere in between the metal boogie rock of Clutch and the surfed-up stoner rock of Fu Manchu, lies the sound of burning liquid rock. Electrified Magma.

positiva-Centaur's Ride Positiva was formed in 2002 with the disolution of Subliminal and Gilah Monster, bands in which Julen (drums) and Txetxu (bass) played. Miguel (guitar and voices, ex-Bliss, ex-Shisha Pangma) and Julio (guitar and voices, ex-Bliss) complete the band formation. In 2004 they recorded their fist demo and started the shows, about 30 since there playing with bands like Los Natas, Amon Ra, Nebula, Viaje a 800, The Sword… also, they play in two editions of “Pop Rock Villa de Bilbao”. In 2005 they recorded their second demo and in 2007 the first album “Centaur’s Ride”

Pearls & Brass-Pearls & Brass “‘Power Trio.’ Say the phrase to any long-hair since its conception some 40 years ago and they’ll immediately know what to expect. Blistering leads, power-house drumming, heavy bass lines and bluesy vocals. Sounds like a formula, yes? Well, it is. Many have stepped up to the plate, attempting to make their 1+1+1=3 but few dare be mentioned in the same breath as legends like the Groundhogs, Grand Funk Railroad, Sleep, Sir Lord Baltimore and the almighty Cream.

The Atomic Bitchwax-The Atomic Bitchwax II The Atomic Bitchwax are an American hard rock band from Long Branch, New Jersey, though they are often grouped into the stoner-rock genre. They formed in 1992, but did not release their first album until 1999. Former guitar player Ed Mundell is also the lead guitarist for stoner-rock pioneers Monster Magnet, he has been replaced by Finn Ryan who used to play in Core. Original drummer Keith Ackerman left at the end of 2006 and has been replaced by Bob Pantella who also plays in Monster Magnet.

Brain Police-Beyond The Wasteland In 2007 they got the attention of Small Stone Records who released their fourth album, “Beyond The Wasteland;” on the 28th of January 2008. A dense and thick smorgasbord of riffs and rock that truly showcases the bands growth as both musicians and as songwriters. Having honed their playing sharing the stage with many of the most talented and respected bands in the world, such as Mastadon, Alabama Thunderpussy, Dozer, NOFX and Alice Cooper “Beyond The Wasteland” shows Brain Police can hold their own with the best of them and maybe teach them an Icelandic trick or two. What else can you say about a band when their motto is “We come from the land of ice and snow…”

Blood Ceremony-Blood Ceremony Hailing from Toronto, Canada, Blood Ceremony was formed in 2006. Blood Ceremony is a psychedelic experience with a doom twist. Female vocalist Alia O’Brien’s gives a slightly eerie feeling to the music at times. The bands name was adopted from the 1972 Spanish-horror film, Ceremonia Sangrienta.

Blood of the Sun-In Blood We Rock Blood of the Sun, originated from Fort Worth, TX, USA, formed in 2004.
For their third LP “Death ride” they have teamed up with one of rock’s most legendary singers: Derek St. Holmes from Ted Nugent.
This is the best album to date , after 2004’s debut and 2007’s “In Blood We Rock”, adding ex-Speedealer guitarist Eric Schmidt.

Burning Saviours-Burning Saviours This heavy rock/doom-styled Swedish band that borrowed their name from Pentagram (US) song “Burning Savior” was formed in November 2003. Burning Saviours’ crispy vintage sound of 70’s proto-doom is guided by the names like Pentagram, Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin. Their self titled debut album was released in 2005. “Hundus” came the next year and their last album “Nymphs & Weavers” in 2007.

Witchcraft-Firewood Witchcraft are a hard rock band from Sweden. Strongly inspired by the early ’70s rock, they play heavy and sometimes slightly psychedelic music. They are often compared to Black Sabbath or Jethro Tull, though they have their own specific sound. They’ve released three well-received full-length albums to date.

King Hobo-King Hobo The 2005 Sounds of the Underground festival tour was about as decidedly “un-funky” as they come. Equally put off by the lack of anything remotely “in a pocket”, Per Wiberg of Opeth and Jean-Paul Gaster of Clutch set up shop outside the bus trailers and sent an open invitation to any like-minded musicians. Seeking to further reap the rewards only found in that spontaneity, Wiberg gathered a group of friends in a rented house in Falun, Sweden. It was somewhat of a leap of faith in that the session would rely primarily on the collective writing and recording of one week’s time. But considering whom Per had assembled, there was plenty of reason to be confident. Thomas Juneor Andersson (Kamchatka) on guitar and vocals, Ulf Rockis Ivarsson (Beat Under Control, countless sessions), Eric Oblander (Five Horse Johnson) harp on “Leaving Letter Blues”, Tomas Agnas on sax for “Mr. Clean”, Jean-Paul Gaster (Clutch, The Bakerton Group) on drums, and finally Wiberg on vocals, keys, and guitar.

Love Mound-Blackbird Big Mean Maheen- Tone, Matt "The Baconator" Bouchard (or sometimes) Michael P. "Sweet Funk" Nordberg (or sometimes) Sparky- Thump, Jimmy James Mayer (or sometimes) A.J. "Little Buddy" Mancabelli- Smack.

Low Vibes-Psychic Travel Formed in June 97, in Paris -France-, the band is playing, as the reviews used to say, some heavy psychedelic groove rock. After a bunch of releases, Low Vibes has started to be well-known from the medias & audience of the stoner rock & hard rock scenes. Mentionned in the reviews as one of the leader of the french "stoner rock " movement, the power-trio is currently finishing its first album. Stay tuned...

Maligno-Univesevil Maligno was born in 2004, with the desire of every member in the band to go back to their roots. After years of experimenting with different musical projects. Due to their musical background the band decided to pay homage to the most influential heavy metal band of all time: BLACK SABBATH. During several gigs throughout the country the band decided it was time to write original material. After months of rehearsals and composing, Maligno finally finished 10 songs wich are captured on the groups first album. The resulting sound is a mixture of their 70s metal influences and others that each member contributed. finishing in a progressive but agressive brand of doom metal.

On Trial-Blinded by the Sun "The band has been around since 1987 and has released a limited edition single and LP in the late 80's of the hard rock style before fully realizing their psychedelic potential. The previous two CD's (70 Kilometers of Underwater Nothingness, Kaptain! in 1995; Head Entrance in 1997) were very heavy and sort of a mixture of Roky Erikson meets Monster Magnet 'Spine of God' era. Way out there. This new CD sees the band bring in a bit more 60's psych style, especially on the first two numbers Flashin'ghast and As if, where the organ sound (only used minimally on the other songs) is very prominent in the mix. Pot of Gold and Long Time Gone are the most aggressive numbers on the CD and quite heavy and some great far out guitar sounds. That is where On Trial excel the most, in the use of the multiple effected guitar sound of both Morten and Henrik. Doubt is a slow, very spacey number highlighting Bo's great voice. The feeling of the guitar playing and the way they layer it all together is masterful! Cast it Aside is a very heavy and fast song that really gets the audience going live! Sleeper is another slow moody song with some excellent spacey guitar interplay between Morten and Henrik and the use of some backwards guitar. Excellent song. Do You See Her is really a trip back to the 60's, with a middle eastern feeling organ sound and highly effected guitar sound. New Day Rising is the true psychedelic masterpiece of the CD, spacing out for nearly 11 minutes. The slow eastern sounding beginning fades into a full-on psychedelic guitar battle that begins at around 5 minutes. Outside the Door closes the CD, as it has on all of the band's CD's. It is a strange piece of a woman's voice from some TV show (I think) that the band mixes in backwards instruments and guitars. Quite strange. Anyway, an incredible and highly recommended psychedelic rock album with some great spaced out guitars. Let's hope there will be another one from this great band." From Aural Innovations #7 (July 1999)

Orange Sunshine-Homo Erectus Orange Sunshine are catching the very soul of the motor-blues garage-punk and acid proto-hardrock era of the late ‘60’s and the early 70’s.

Firebird-Hot Wings Firebird is a British blues-rock power trio founded by Bill Steer in 1999. The music style, reminiscent of seventies rock bands such as Cream, is a radical departure from Steer’s previous work with grindcore pioneers Napalm Death and death metal band Carcass. Firebird’s lineup has seen several drummers and bass players come and go, but Steer’s congenial vocals and guitar playing have kept the band’s vibe stable.

Fluidage-I Ride The Weed Harvester Through Mars Fluidage is the soloproject of me, Tobias Larsson. It all started as a project to do those songs I wanna hear sometimes. But to keep it soft, cause I only play heavy stuff - and I like it hehehe. I guess guitar is fun to play.
The rule is to never use riffs that I can use in the other two bands I play in... Rules are fuckin ment to be broken ! Maybe switch to swedish soon, but probably not. English is a fine fuckin language to sing in.
If ya want my music contact me or add me on soulseek, I'm user "Fluidage"

    Freedom Hawk-Sunlight FREEDOM HAWK IS:
    Lenny Hines-Drums
    Mark Cave-Bass
    Matt Cave-Lead Guitar
    T.R. Morton-Guitar/Vocals
    INFLUENCES:
Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Kyuss, Queens of the Stone Age, Fugazi, Led Zeppelin, Soundgarden, COC, Dozer

Parchman Farm-Parchman Farm "Collectively, the four members of Parchman Farm believe in running with the night, shooting first, barfing last, digging in, getting down, staying true, staying alive, slapping fives, and always living in the deep red. They don't believe in miracles, puppetry of the penis, empty film canisters, serial numbers, the story of Christmas and dinosaurs. They believe in violent metaphors. They are adrift, focused, panic-stricken, unwashed, and slightly dazed. They are like a shark riding on top of an elephant, just stomping and chomping everything in sight"
    .
crooked hook-The Captain Will Be Your Guide "Crooked Hook, a Stoner/Garage/Psyche power trio from New Haven CT, is Joey Maddalena (guitar and vocals), Jason Bates (drums), and Rick Omonte (bass guitar).
Comparisons of their sound can be made with The Melvins, Goatsnake, Pentastar-era Earth, Burning Witch, Electric Wizard, Sleep, Isis and even classic Motörhead but their style, and perhaps spirit, is blues influenced with an underlying groove… more akin to Black Sabbath, Bongzilla and Dead Meadow. Heavy and hypnotic, powerful and persuasive, their simplistic approach belies the effectiveness of their sound to grab you and hold on tight."

Dead Man-Euphoria At the start 2003 four guys with their roots in Örebro, Sweden, got together and began to experiment. It didn’t take long before a new band was formed, and shortly after they decided to go under the name Dead Man. As former members of great bands like The Strollers, The Roadrunners and Norrsken, these four guys have got experience that goes way back. They’ve created a new and unique sound and the harmonies are constantly being developed in an experimental way.

Sergej The freak-A Land Called Jojotiro Sergej The Freak is a band from Gothenburg, Sweden, formed 1999.
Niklas and Tobbe started at the same school in Karlskoga, and begun to talk about music. They soon decided to try and play some Deftones-like music. Tobbe brought his old friend Janne to the rehersalroom. They connected great and did one own song. After a while Niklas suggested that we should play stonerrock (the other guys hadn’t heard about it before). At that time we didn’t have a bass player, so Janne talked his friend Janneck in to start playing with us. And they’re still the same line-up.

Causa Sui-Summer Sessions vol.1 Causa Sui (meaning cause of itself in Latin) is four Danes in their early/mid-twenties, who have made and released music together since before they were teenagers in various genres.
Causa Sui is not the hipster’s unintelligent 60ies-look nostagia music, not a scholar’s sad search for the most complex of compositions, nor a neanderthal take on sludgy riffs. This is free music – all written, shaped, played and produced by the band during 9 months of isolation.

Shame Club-Come On A real honest to god American ROCK-N-ROLL band. Like Aerosmith when they still did drugs, like Kiss before they took off their makeup or like ZZ Top before MTV. They may look like four guys on their way to a hot dog stand, but they will roll up in the shittiest van you've ever seen and flatten your club. Mixing a love for volume, all things 70’s and the punk rock ethos of Loud Fast Rules, Shame Club comes across as a thundering barrage of their influences. Think Aerosmith playing at the Ramones pace with the guitarist from Thin Lizzy sitting in.

Bomb The Sun-Bomb The Sun Bomb The Sun are a 4 piece Bluesy/Stoner Rock Band from the Marshlands of South Wales. Influences they list are Led Zeppelin, Kyuss, Fu Manchu, Black Sabbath… They released their first EP in June 2007.

Catapult the Smoke- Born In Fire Catapult The Smoke brings you heavy ass stoner rock from the deep forests of Sweden. Mange Linhardt - Bass / Tobbe Larsson - Drums & vocals / Totte Martini - Guitars.

Hainloose- Rosula Hainloose is the heir to Kinch, a group of some small notoriety due to their split release with Shard. Singer and guitarist Haris went on to form Hainloose after Kinch’s demise, bringing along the Kinch songbook while he was at it. Several songs on the Shard split get a reworking by Hainloose, and the results are tighter versions, with songs averaging around 4 minutes each. In fact, ‘Rosula’ is tight as hell, with each song stripped of fat while at the same time rich in dynamics and memorable riffs, chased by Haris’ clean vocals. Overall, Hainloose not only reminds me of Kinch - with perhaps a bit Colour Haze at their most concise - but also of some of the best and cleanest of the Swedish scene, such as Astroqueen, Honcho, and even Mammoth Volume. As you might surmise, there’s lots of desert vibing, but there’s also a leavening of a difficult-to-define sensibility that somehow reminds me of early 70s FM American radio; you know, before it totally sucked. Produced by Colour Haze’s Koglek, the sound is rich and full.

Borehole- Dusty Minded Borehole is a loud & enthusiastic bunch from rockcity Eindhoven, In the south of the Netherlands. Their music can be described as a highly infectious mixture of sleazy stonerrock & roll combined with subtle tension raising and even psychedelic elements. The songs are drenched with raw & intense vocals, and all of their songs are preformed with great confidence, just like a band with attitude should.

Pilotos- Thank God For The Devil Pilotos is a four-piece rock band from Stockholm. They are closing in on the ten year mark of activity wich is when all the cool bands break and become famous. So join the group and later on you can claim that you was into Pilotos when the band was still "underground".. Over the years Pilotos have released the albums "Thank god for the devil" (2006) and "Powers of Evil" (2003). Download their albums totally FREE at their Myspace. http://www.myspace.com/pilotosrock

First Band From Outer Space- Impressionable Sounds of the Subsonic The band was originally formed as a trio and built from the ground by StarfighterCarl on the drums and rhythm tools. On guitars and vocals we have JohanFromSpace and on bass is SpaceAceFrippe who also creates the cosmic oscillator sounds. Later on, MoonbeamJosué joined the group with a creative mind and a variety of different flutes.

Snailface- Snailface The sonic trails left on the carpet of an underground room piled with distortion pedals.
    Group Members: Doctor Mindface
    Æon Timerender
    Blar
    The Potentiometer.

Scene Killer- Scene Killer Scene Killer features members of Atomic Bitchwax, Burnout King, Drag Pack, Halfway To Gone, Monster Magnet, Solace, Solarized and many more. Mixed by Jack Endino (Nirvana, Nebula, Mudhoney) and released on Meteor City. This is loud, stony guitar rock with fuzzed-out guitar riffs from New Jersey.

tia carrera- Tia Carrera Tia Carrera is a heavy metal, stoner-blues band hailing from Austin, TX. They are currently signed with the Australian Cattle God label.

Core- The Hustle Is On A three-piece stoner rock band from the US. The band split up some time after “The Hustle is On” was released. Guitarist Finn Ryan is currently a member of The Atomic Bitchwax.

Rodeo Queen- Diva Rodeo Queen was launched in 1999 by four guys who were seriously bored with their localmusic scene. Everyone was into Hardcore or Hip Hop but there was not a single decentRockband around. Guitarplayer Joachim and Bassplayer Stephan, formerly known as members of bands such as Druckkammer or Effendi Effect, decided to quit their bands andto form a new one instead - with the modest claim to blow away everything in their way. Together with singer Miro and drummer Jari - whose local fame up to this point relied heavilyon an excessive lifestyle rather than on his musical background - they started Rodeo Queen.

Lo-Pan- Sasquanaut Sasquanaut is a TKO of an album; guaranteed to knock your ass out with a single haymaker. They are one of the best, if not the best band going in stoner rock right now. Although, I’d hesitate to just label ‘em stoner rock and call it a day. There’s doom, rock and progressive songwriting all throwing down for your soul and they’ve pretty much accomplished mastery of their chosen style. For my money, they are picking up the long vacant banner of OLW and holding it high for all to see. Those looking for soul, vintage heaviness and killer songcraft in their “stoner rock”, look no further than Lo Pan and this album. This is easily gonna be one of the year’s best in that department!

Rollerball- SuperStructure Australian rockers Rollerball, Long regarded as one of the country’s most incendiary live bands, Rollerball are ready to tear the roof off. Sharing stages with stoner legends Queens Of The Stoneage, Monster Magnet, Fu Manchu, Budgie & Oz rock royalty The Angels & Rose Tattoo Rollerball are the the real deal. Take a mix of AC/DC, Kyuss, Blue Oyster Cult & Thin Lizzy & you get a hint of the unique Rollerball sound. Massive riffs, surrealist lyrics, tribal rhythms & pounding grooves, this is hard rock without irony, pastiche or plagiarism. From turbo charged belters, prog mind melters, sing along shanties & epic stoner jams.Prepare to dive.

Wo Fat- Psychedelonaut Wo Fat are true believers. Believers in the Riff. Devout disciples of Rock. They have seen how far off the path purveyors of “Nu Metal” and current day “Punk Rock” have strayed and following in the footsteps of the rock and roll prophets of old, have returned to rock’s roots: the blues. But don’t be fooled; the blues that Wo Fat is mining from is the dark, trance-inducing, backwoods blues of the north Mississippi hill country. The haunting mysterious blues of Junior Kimbrough, R.L. Burnside and Mississippi Fred Mcdowell.

Kamchatka- Kamchatka Classic tones from guitarist Thomas Andersson propel this juggernaut. Unlike other players who end up beholden to their effects, Andersson uses them like weapons, creating a totally stylized Hendrixian bluesy, trippy, greasy and freaky psychofunkedelicized sonic assault with tons of feel and chops to spare. The rhythm section is like a nitro-fueld bulldozer and tight as a vault, creating the launching pad for Andersson’s stratospheric excursions. These guys MEAN it - nothing about their music is contrived or calculated. It’s the real item, folks.

Elder- Elder Elder is "a sludge fan's wet dream with furious, Sabbath tinged riffs, huge bass, screaming vocals, elephantine tempos and some awesome lead work that sounds straight out of the Maryland doom scene," says Hellride Music.
The three piece from Fairhaven, Massachusetts is one of the most promising stoner/doom bands on the horizon, with elements of stoner and psych surrounding their massive sludgy core. The band's 2006 split with Queen Elephantine established the group and it's only going to get better from here.
Elder is Nick Disalvo, Chas Mitchell, and Matt Couto.

The Parlor Mob- And You Were A Crow The band started out as What About Frank? In 2007 the band changed their name to The Parlor Mob so as to “…have a name that’s less hokey and more representative of our music” said drummer Sam Bey in a New York Times interview. On September 14, 2007 the band signed with Roadrunner Records and have recorded an album at Asheville, NC’s Echo Mountain studios. Jacquire King (Tom Waits, Kings of Leon, The Dwarves, Modest Mouse) signed on to produce the album. The Parlor Mob’s debut album, And You Were a Crow, was released on iTunes on March 11th, 2008 and was released in stores everywhere on May 6th, 2008.

Hypnopilot- Hypnopilot Hypnopilot is a band that formed around 2002 in Calgary. The 3 members joined up through an ad posted in FFWD Magazine’s Classified ads for ‘musicians wanted’. Matthew had placed it looking to start a band nfluenced by Black Sabbath, Queens of the Stone Age, Kyuss, Tool, Beaver and Corrosion of Conformity. After playing together a few times, the three pressed on playing various cover songs by the aforementioned bands.

Eighteen Wheels Burning- Tweak'd Out Strung up & Redlined After several attempts to form a new band, EIGHTEEN WHEELS BURNING was unleashed in 2005. The debut album “eighteen wheels burning” was released and the band supported such acts as Atomic Bitchwax, Sound of Urchin and The Moistboyz as well as touring the east coast and southern United States.
In 2007 drummer Matt Cusack came aboard and brought more firepower to the burnin’wheels. Volume 2 is currently available in full-length preview here and will hit the shelves for purchase and download shortly.

Josiah- Out Of The First Rays EP A mid Atlantic blend of ballsy British grit colliding with a rock n’ roll swagger born of the US. Josiah is Mathew Bethancourt (vocal and guitar), Sie Beasley (bass and vocal) and Keith Beacom (drums) with a shared love of the riff, the groove and a big heavy beat. Josiah entered the game early in 2000, formed by Mathew Bethancourt, Sie Beasley (and then drummer) Chris Jones quickly establishing themselves on the worlds underground scene as a powerful riff machine. “Josiah touch on Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Motorhead with their deep grooves, vocal drawl and thick dirty guitars”

The Freeks- The Freeks Formed in 2006 at California, United States, The Freeks are:
Ruben Romano (Nebula / Fu Manchu)
John McBain (Monster Magnet / Wellwater Conspiracy / Hater)
Scott Reeder (Kyuss / Across The River)
    Isaiha Mitchell (Earthless)
Lorenzo Woodrose (Baby Woodrose / On Trial)
Jason Corbin (Bartenders Bible / The Casbah)
John Cobett (Hammers of Misfortune / Ludicra)
Jack Endino (Skin Yard / Earthworm)
Bernie Worell (Wizard of Woo & Woo Warriors / Funkadelic / Parliament)

SvartePan- Sov Gott, Nattvandring SvartePan are a Swedish band that hail from Malmö and play 70’s style classic rock and sing all in Swedish. They have toured extensively in Sweden and have quite an underground following. The bands only other release is a split single with Abramas Bramas, another Swedish band who also sing in Swedish but play a bit harder than SvartePan. If you have ever heard the great Swedish band called November then you should check these guys out. I listened to one of the first November records right after this CD and the similarity is frightening. While the production is a bit more modern the songs and style are convincingly a 70’s rock and roll sound. While I don’t understand Swedish, this is a damn good rocking CD.

Valkyrie- Valkyrie Founded in 2002 by brothers Jake and Pete Adams in Rockbridge County, Virginia, Valkyrie played sporadic local shows for its first two years, and embarked on their first tour in May of 2004. Since then Valkyrie has been cultivating a presence in the heavy rock and doom metal underground.

Bereits die weise Pop-Poetin Nelly Furtado wusste es: „All Good Things Come To An End“.

  • My One Year (The Quest of Becoming Musically Wise)

    Jun 19 2007, 20h30 por meleemario

Holy crap, I can't believe one year has came and gone already, it seems like just yesterday I registered, and it seems like just yesterday I got into music, heavily. Well, I started getting into music when I got Limewire,
back in January of 2005, I downloaded songs here and there, mainly songs I heard on the radio, or on TV, or
mainly songs from bands I knew. I didn't consistently follow any bands as my tastes were forming, but the
bands I was following were Iron Maiden and AC/DC, at this time, I was just
getting into The Ramones and Motorhead. In August of 2005 did I start to get experimental by downloading stuff from Skinny Puppy, Electric Wizard, and Type O Negative, bands I had never heard of before, those were 3 major ones I was getting music from at the time. Then in October of 2005, I got into Horror Punk, which is a genre of punk rock with horror themes, I got stuff from The Misfits primarily, and Samhain (Glenn Danzig's post-Misfits project, which turned into Danzig). Then it went back to just getting random stuff, and dabbling with obscure bands every once in a while. 2006 was pretty much the end of Limewire, as I had started using it less. By the end of my time with Limewire, I had heavily gotten into stoner rock, likeDozer, Five Horse Johnson, Nebula, Spiritual Beggars, and High on Fire.

June 10, 2006 was a day that changed my life forever musically, my friend Juano (Who is known on last.fm as
jonfled) finally convinced me, making me realize that Limewire was a shitty program to get music from, and
looking back, Jon was absolutely right, Limewire is a terrible program to get music from, it corrupted my music, and the music of all music lovers everywhere (Check out my group for this while i'm ranting about Limewires crappiness). Nine days later, I made a last.fm, if I didn't make a last.fm, I wouldn't know about most of the music I have today, and I wouldn't be here typing this journal this afternoon, on the one year anniversary of mine. So during my time on Soulseek, the friendly denizens of the stoner rock room, whom I am good friends with now (Born With A Tail, Thorgrim, Clevemire, nchl420, Jay_O_Doom, zemure, zappawizard, DARfuckinROCKS, LordStoner, LysergicAcidDiEthylAmide, and Chieftain), I talked to them, and they turned my tastes around, I heavily got into music, and Stoner Rock and Doom Metal, getting me into bands such as Clutch, Bongzilla, 35007, Asteroid, Blowback, Zebulon Pike, Goatsnake, Sleep,
Electric Magma, Planet Gemini, Blue Cheer, The Melvins, Indian, Witch, Yawning Man (The very first album I downloaded was Rock Formations), Sgt. Sunshine, Sixty Watt Shaman, Monkey 3, Truck Fighters, Electric Frankenstein, Bad Wizard, Dixie Witch, Dot[.], Mountain Maker, Graves at Sea, ADMIRAL BROWNING, Sahg, Sunn O))) (Through Juano), Boris (Through Juano), Tusk, and Ufomammut, not in that particular order of course. Then after I got acquainted with all these bands, when I got my 1,000th download, I took a hiatus from Soulseek, and pretty much looked to download music from other sources.

During my hiatus on Soulseek, I downloaded albums from various websites, not listening to stoner rock as much
as I did during the slsk days. Then, in February of 2007, I started catching up with my friend Morrissey (Who is known as TehMorrissey on last.fm), he was really into Extreme Metal (Death Metal, Black Metal, Viking Metal, etc), and he compiled the Death Metal pack for me, getting me into bands such as Necrophagist, Death (Though I had known who they were for quite a while),
    Atheist, Ensiferum, Kalmah, Haemorrhage,
Windir, Cacophony (They're not DM at all, he just threw that into the pack by mistake, but I wouldn't have known who they were if it weren't for him), Carcass, Morbid Angel, and Napalm Death. I'm still kind of getting used to Extreme Metal, but I certainly have my favorites in that genre. Then in March of 2007, around the time I met Melanie, (Who is known as missvici0us on last.fm), I started talking to her, and she got me into old school hardcore punk, getting me into bands such as Black Flag (I can only stand the Keith Morris era of BF, any other
is inferior in my opinion), Minor Threat, State of Alert, and Reagan Youth. I can only listen to old school Hardcore, because todays Hardcore is too noisy and filled with screaming. I also tried getting into old school emo, which was known as Emocore, the only band I can stand is Embrace, I tried Rites of Spring, they're alright, but they're too unusual for me, and I can't stand emo music really anyway, it all sounds the same to me.

Well, I guess this is the end of this journal, explaining how I got into music and such. To sum it up, I listen to a little of everything, Punk, Metal, Doom Metal, Stoner Rock, Psychedelic (60's Music), Folk Metal, Viking Metal, Indie, Industrial, Hardcore Punk, (Very little) Emo, Thrash Metal, (Some) Nu-Metal, and many other genres. Though, I can't listen to too much modern music, cos most modern music these days is terrible. This has been one hell of a year here on last.fm, thats for sure, but it's certainly been a good one!
