Em 1969, o mundo presencia os momentos finais dos Beatles, os Stones ainda não são gigantes e o Led Zeppelin dá seus primeiros passos. Neste contexto o Blind Faith surgiu quase que por acaso. Em busca de diversão, Clapton convidou o amigo Steve Winwood, e juntos começaram a levar algumas jams. Ginger Baker ficou sabendo da empreitada, e quis se juntar à dupla. A princípio Clapton foi contra, pois era da opinião que a presença de Baker transformaria o que era para ser uma simples reunião de amigos em algo muito maior, mas foi vencido pela insistência do baterista e de Winwood. Dos ensaios regados a longos improvisos foram surgindo as primeiras idéias para algumas músicas próprias, assim como a necessidade de um baixista para completar o grupo. Rick Grech, do Family, foi convidado e aceitou de imediato. Assim nascia o Blind Faith, o primeiro supergrupo da história do rock.

A notícia que os quatro estavam compondo juntos logo vazou, gerando uma enorme expectativa na imprensa e nos fãs, que logo profetizaram que Clapton, Winwood, Baker e Grech gravariam um dos melhores álbuns que o rock haveria de ver nascer.

Apesar dos exageros, eles não estavam errados. A crença absoluta, que levou os quatro a batizarem o grupo como Blind Faith, se concretizou com o lançamento do auto-intitulado debut, em julho de 1969. O álbum está cravado sobre dois sólidos alicerces: a belíssima “Can’t Find My Way Home” e a antológica “Presence Of The Lord”.

I remember this combination of Traffic and Cream well. I was sad about the demise of Stevie's and Eric's former groups but their collaboration in Blind Faith was classic. Brings back memories of my old 8 track tape player I had installed in my '58 Lincoln Premiere (Bobby Kennedy's when he was US AG).
