  • Blackalicious - A to G (Lyrics + Faq)

    Ago 30 2009, 16h27 por boro_jank

    Blackalicious - TocarA to G

We're going to learn to hear words with vowel "A" sound... Listen with care

I be the analog arsonist, aimin at your arteries
    All-seeing abstract, analyze everything
    Adding on, absolutely abolishing
    Average amateur's arsenal just astonishing

Next, we'll learn words that begin with letter "B"

I be the big, bad body rockin Bombay to boulevard bully back
Better bring a bomb to the battlefield
Bloody black beats bringing bottoms that boom
    Basically build barriers bewilder buffoons

Listen now to words that begin with letter "C"

    Crazy character, constantly creating concontions
    Catalyst, a cannabalistic rhymes conqueror
    Correctly connecting, craniums crumble down
    Consistent capacity

Next we'll hear words that start with letter "D"

Done did that done did this diddle don
    Domination don't dignify diction
Doin' it deep down dialect daring
Doomsday dut devastate during the duration

Listen to our song for vowel "E"

    Extraterrestrial electrical, effortless
    Eons of energy, everyone affected
    Efficiently epitomize excellent
Extravagant elevate where the essence is

  • Good hip hop

I believe that there are no good or bad types of music, just good and bad bands. I listen to a lot of alternative rock, but also pop, punk, folk, classical, metal, electronica, etc... I think you get my point. But by this post, I'm going to show you five hip hop songs I really like, and also recommend some albums after that.

The first track is by De La Soul, a 90's group who was one of the very first hip hop groups I started to like. Perhaps they're easy to get into for someone who doesn't like hip hop that much, because their playful style is pretty much the opposite to the stereotypical average gangsta rapper. This song is just as much pop as it is hip hop, and I love it.

De La Soul - TocarEye Know

Most of the hip hop groups I like started in the 90's, but there are a few more recent groups I also like. A perfect example is Blackalicious. Even if they have borrowed a lot from groups in the past, their sound is still pretty unique, in my opinion.

    Blackalicious - TocarBlazing Arrow

A Tribe Called Quest are one of my absolute favourites of all time. Their lyrics are awesome (isn't "I don't eat no ham and eggs 'cause they're high in cholesterol" one of the best choruses of allt time?). The beats and samplings are perfect and both Phife's and Q-Tip's voices are great. "Now here's a funky introduction of how nice I am", as Phife tells us in this song. Brilliant.

A Tribe Called Quest - TocarCheck the Rhime

Youtube sucks, because I can't find Public Enemy's best song, Bring The Noise out there. Anyway, this song is awesome too.

Public Enemy - TocarDon't Believe The Hype

The Roots is a quite unusual group, since they're known for using live instrumentals pretty much all of the time, and rarely use samplings. They're jazzy, cool and a really interesting group.

The Roots - TocarI Remain Calm

The poet, actor, spoken word artist and musician Saul Williams is a genius. Right now, he's probably my favourite artist beside Okkervil River. His lyrics are the best I've ever heard. I just love how he mixes rock, industrial, pop and soul in such a great way. This song is from his debut album, which is a lot more standard hip hop than the other two.

"Dear god, I wasn't breast fed
And most of my conversations with men seem to revolve around music
I'm no musician but the pain has been instrumental
My senses finally tune the instruments of, of
Of being lonely, of being lost, of being loved, of being human
Man I could use a metaphor but I can't get beyond this shit
I could use someone to talk to
But most of my conversations with men seem to revolve around music."

    Saul Williams - TocarFearless

If you liked the De La Soul song I posted, I'd recommend their album 3 Feet High and Rising, and also a band called The Pharcyde. They're very similar. Bizarre Ride II is a great album. All of A Tribe Called Quest's three first albums are great, especially their two first, People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm and The Low End Theory. OutKast is an underrated group, in my opinion. Stankonia, Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, and Idlewild are all worth a listen. Blazing Arrow is the best album by Blackalicious, so far. The Kanye West produced Be by Common is a good album. k-os is an artist who's hard to not like, wether you liek hip hop or not. He mixes reggea, pop, hip hop rock and soul in a very interesting way. Check out his album Joyful Rebellion! The Roots album Do You Want More?!!!??! is brilliant, too.

I know that there are a lot of artists and bands I've probably missed, as an example, I know a lot of people love Nas and his album Illmatic. I don't think it's bad, not at all, but I guess it just doesn't do it for me. Some songs are good, though. Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Sage Francis, MF DOOM, Classified and Jurassic 5 are groups and artists worth a mention as well.

Well, that's all, I guess. Feel free to comment or ask anything below, or perhaps add some groups you think I've missed, because I'm no expert in this genre, to be honest, and I do not claim to be, either. So I'd be very glad for any recommendations. Thanks!
