(500) Days Of Summer je film o tome kako su u jednom momentu ne tako davno muškarci postali žene, a žene muškarci. (Kako ko i kako gde!) Da objasnimo, Tom Hanson (Joseph Gordon-Lewitt) je veliki ljubitelj muzike posebno grupe The Smiths i sličnih tj. ,,tužne britanske pop muzike” kako sam narator kaže. On se školovao za arhitektu, ali radi kao pisac čestitki. Zahvaljujući svojoj zanesenosti (muzikom) Tom živi u ubedjenju da će biti potpuno srećan tek kada upozna pravu devojku. I upoznaće je, ona će se zvati Summer (Zooey Deshanel) i radiće kao sekretarica u istoj kompaniji i neće verovati u ljubav zahvaljujući propalom braku svojih roditelja. I ona će voleti Smitse ali izgleda ne dovoljno.

Po trejleru biste pomislili kako se ovde govori o zaljubljenicima u muziku, ali nakon gledanja filma shvatate da je američka filmska industrija svesna da ako ne ubaci popularnu muziku u film i po mogućstvu Zooey Deshanel sa svojim vintaž imidžom od filma neće biti ništa. Tako saundtrek počinje narativnim delom ,,A Story Of Boy Meets Girl” baš kao i film, a odmah zatim isto kao u filmu sledi vesela pesma ,,Us” koji izvodi ljupka Regina Spektor, a koja se prvi put pojavila na njenom albumu Soviet Kitsch 2004. godine. Regina-u ćemo čuti i u realnost/mašta momentima uz pesmu ,,Hero” nešto kasnije. Odmah za njom sledi čuvena morbidna pesma grupe The Smiths ,,There Is A Light That Never Goes Out” uz koju će se Tom i Summer upoznati, ali i pesma ,,Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want” koja osim što se pojavljuje u jednoj sceni odlično ide uz samu poruku filma. Obrada ove pesme u izvodjenju She&Him tačnije Zooey Deshanel i M. Ward-a, će i zatvoriti ovaj soundtrek. Još jedna obrada je ,,Here Comes Your Man” koju u originalu izvode Pixies, a ovde mladjana Meaghan Smith. Ova pesma je pored ,,Sweet Disposition” jedina nova pesma na albumu. ,,Sweet Disposition’’ je delo grupe The Temper Trap i ona je zahvaljujući ovom saundtreku postala neverovatan hit, a odlikuje je onaj snowpatrol-ovski naboj i energičnost. Kanadski bend Doves sa sobom obavezno nose neki osećaj neuspele romanse i na saundtreku se našla njihova pesma ,,There Goes The Fear”. ,,You Make My Dreams” koju su nekada davno izvodili Hall&oates je vesela i odlično se ukapa sa Tomovim osećajem zaljubljenosti. Gospodja Sarkozi i manekenka koja se bavi pevanjem (što u Francuskoj izgleda ne zahteva neke posebne glasovne mogućnosti), Carla Bruni, gostuje sa pesmom ,,Quequ’un M’a Dit”. Feist je pozajmila svoju pesmu ,,Mushaboom” sa svog prvenca Let It Die, a Simon & Garfunkel su bili nešto škrtiji pa od njih slušamo ,,Bookends”od samo minut i dvadeset sekundi. Australijanci koji su se raspali pa ponovo okupili, Wolfmother, pevaju pesmu ,,Vagabond” sa svog hvaljenog prvenca. Tu su još i Black Lips tzv. flower-punk (?) bend iz Atlante sa pesmom ,,Bad Kids” iz 2007., zatim Mumm-Ra koji izvode pesmu ,,She’s got You High” i ona je preuzeta sa albuma These Things Move In Trees. Dakle kompilacija već proverenih hitova.

Malo drugačija američka romantična komedija kakva je (500) Days Of Summer ostaviće utisak najviše zahvaljujući pažljivo odabranoj muzici za svaku scenu. Ovo je pre svega terapija i neka vrsta osvete, što se vidi u poruci na samom početku filma, režisera Marc Webb-a. Ovo je i priča o tome kako smo navikli da svoja osećanja izaražavamo (ili sakrivamo?) preko pesama i filmova, delom jer ne umemo i zato što nismo uvežbani, a delom zato što nam je tako lakše. Toliko emocija u kulturnim sadržajima koji nas okružuju, a mi ostajemo nemi ili još gore hladni kada je red na nas da iskažemo svoja osećanja. Paradoks. Ironija. Ovo je i priča o tome kako su idealistima ponekad potrebni i realisti, da ih podsete šta je stvaran život. Ali i kako su realistima potrebni idealisti da ih podsete da nije baš sve tako crno i da ponekad moraju da veruju u sudbinu, zvezde i pre svega ljubav.
