Hi,
this time... on time :-P
I guess my last week was quite extraordinary because of the multiple times I was coming home late (and that because of card games and movies).
Which brings me to my first point of this entry (and the reason for the title).
Michael Jackson's farewell is currently released worldwide in theatres - talking about "This Is It".
I saw it and afterwards heard about the "This Is Not It" (TINI) movement spreading across the web. But regardless of the intentions of the filmmakers or the upset fans - my decision was already made weeks ago that I would go see it, not because I wanted to prove my thoughts right but because I was curious. I imagined that this film could give me an impression of what a man the late MJ was (next to his roles as artist, singer, dancer, icon, father, celebrity...).
Sadly I have to say that this whole story is still a mystery to me.
There are the facts that MJ had problems with medication and even more problems with pressure and expectations. But on the other side you can see a performer deluxe. And most importantly his music is still so alive and groovy... remarkably timeless.
I wonder why he didn't release more music or why he didn't dare to do some gigs. It's ok to have a break, but why did he feel the need to retire?
Was it really all the media and harsh critics who put him down?
Anyway... now the marketing is rolling and consumers even get a new compilation with those songs which "inspired the film". I think it is a really good mix of classics, though the "new" song (based on an old demo) feels just weak. Or what do you think?
And now the usuals stats which will have a new feature.
If you're lucky (and your browser supports it) you should see a little image representing a random selection of album covers refering to artist I was mostly listening to. ^^
Blimey! The
Black Eyed Peas did make it to the top. After Nick's surprisingly positive review of the current album I thought I might check it out. And guess what... it's a long album (meaning lots of tracks). But... at this moment I'm not so excited about the new songs.
OK... "I Gotta Feeling" keeps growing on me (and that mostly thanks to a crazy one take video shot by some American students - go look for it on youtube ^^ ). And even "Boom Boom Pow" has some good aspects. Still... eventually "The E.N.D." falls flat to my ears. Too many repetitions, dull lyrics and mediocre electro tunes.
Next up would be the
No Angels, a German casting band whose album "Welcome To The Dance" fits the level of the Black Eyed Peas... meaning it's electronic and mostly mediocre... with the exception of "One Life" which is one of the best songs the producers let those girls sing. That's the sad thing about casting bands - they usually only succeed with good producers and rarely because they're talented.
Pretty much the opposite of such music might be songs by Moneybrother who was also on heavy rotation during my last weekend. Although the theme of his songs continues to be tragic love, it's nice to listen to it.
New on my list is Mr Hudson whose new songs I would like to write about some other time.
The same could be said about a band called
The Sounds which I would recommend to you if you're looking for some new impressions. If you're lucky you should find many of their songs for streaming here on last.fm.
And finally I recently had an evening with music by PlayRadioPlay! which still is a nice alternation for me.
Aaaaand... I'm still not finished because I want to mention three songs I was often listening to these days.
The first one should be a surprise (or ain't it?): "
Love Me" by Justin Bieber. This song features tunes and some lyrics by the Cardigans ("Love Fool" from the 90's "Romeo & Juliet" film starring Leonardo DiCaprio). Yep, that was lots of background information. But believe it or not... this new interpretation is really catchy. And lil' Justin doesn't sound like a girl anymore ("One Time"). :-P
The second one: "
We Weren't Born To Follow" by Bon Jovi features some nice lines and I'm still interested in their new songs hoping that there might be an even better hymn for me.
And the third song on my mind would be "
I Like" by Keri Hilson which gets heavy promotion during the trailer time in German cinemas because it is featured in an upcoming film with (and by) Til Schweiger. If you don't know that name it's okay :-D Trust me. But if you're curious take some time to look him up online... but first check out this song (or The Sounds) :-P
Anyway... at first I wasn't sure about it... but meanwhile I like "I Like", a great and catchy midtempo tune :-)
I guess I can be pretty sure that this is one of my biggest entries :-)
And you could celebrate it by leaving a comment ;-)
