It's actually a good album. Not her best, but it grows on you. Sure, there are some 'meh' songs but others (earth intruders and vertebrae by vertebrae for instance) are extremely good.

Hotterthanjuly, displaying his unjustified and insecure superiority-complex as usual. Tedious. Volta is much less tedious than he is, but it's still a fairly clunking and embarrassing misstep; one that sounds desperate rather than inventive. Hope is indeed dreadful. Her worst ever song, perhaps.

well, it's weird. one timbaland-produced song ("earth intruders") is brilliant and the other two get progressively worse ("hope" is dreadful, for example. but that's not even his fault. the lyrics and the melody are uninspired). the rest of the album seems to be a mixture of mediocre songs with bjork-lite, semi interesting production and great songs marred by one element (see antony on "the dull flame of desire", as well as its length). that's my personal opinion. this album falls especially short as far as songwriting is concerned.

I don't see how anyone can imply Volta doesn't have an interesting or unique sound. Björk has never produced an album of disparate components that comes together in a way quite like this one does. It doesn't receive nearly enough credit. Too many people seem to have wrongfully assumed that just because Timbaland is associated with this effort, Volta must be an unchallenging, unexciting, middle-of-the-road pop album when that's simply not the case at all. Volta is easily as daring and inventive as any of Björk's previous albums, if not even more so. Just much more rounded and only slightly more accessible.
