  • Psilodump - The Nya Albumet

    Jun 9 2009, 17h50 por simonrahm

    Psilodump - The Nya Albumet

Demon Tea is proud to present the third official album by Swedish genre defying electronic music producer Simon Rahm aka Psilodump. Psilodump's sound may be hard to define or explain, but could be vaguely described as flexible, eclectic and maybe even somewhat schizoid. Filled with small details, lush melodies, mysterious darkness, complex but groovy rhythms, clever cuts and breaks, shifting or parallel moods, spiced up with a wild imagination, on the edge to overkill, Psilodump still manages to deliver a recognizable "Psilodumpish" sound. What at one moment is lively, wild, energetic, loud and hard, can the next be quiet, passive, mechanical and/or neurotic, if not all entirely at the same time.

Simon started composing electronic music in late 1991. Although already getting his first record deal offer in 1996, it was in 2001 he got his first official release; a vinyl EP on the Swiss experimental electronica label Domizil, followed up the next year by another two vinyl releases, one on Swedish breakbeat label Sound of Habib, and on on Swedish tech house label Q-Records. In 2006, after numerous releases on netlabels, such as monotonik, Kahvi Collective, 8bitpeoples and Candy Mind, Simon released his first CD album, "Psilodumputer", in strictly limited quantities, on a small Swedish label, Ninjani Diskus. Shortly after, Simon was inspired to set up his own label, called 476 Records, where he released his second CD album, "Never Heal".

Simon has also done remixes for artists such as Kraftwerk, Slagsmålsklubben and Bodenständig 2000. Simon has diligently been performing his music live since 1996, at both big commercial and underground rave-parties, clubs and cafes, festivals, culture events and demo parties. To date, he has covered about 120 gigs, in 15 different countries, including France, Germany, UK, Russia, Italy, Israel and Spain - alongside artists, acts and DJ's, such as Neil Landstrumm, Chris Liebing, Cari Lekebusch, Thomas Krome, Infected Mushroom, Slagsmålsklubben, Bit Shifter and Kleerup. In Sweden, he has performed at notable festivals such as Peace & Love 2008, Norberg Festival 2008, Arvika Festival 2005 and 2002.

you're taking every genre I like. First you took screamo and I was like, okay, that can stand and went back to listening to Saetia like a good skramzer. Then you took metalcore and I was like, hey, that's not cool, and went back to listening to Converge like a trve core fan. Then you took rap and I didn't care because it was totally ghey lolz 3OH3 hurr durr. Now fucking CHIPTUNE? Chiptune was so cool and kind of nerdy but now you've got that too.

  • Bzangy Groink Playlist 14/1/09

    Jan 17 2009, 23h22 por JyotiMishra

Woo, the first BG of this year was quite full and very friendly, lovely bunch of people! I got many great requests (most of which I managed to fit in) and also loads of enquiries about what track I was playing, which always makes me happy. The whole point of my DJ night is to introduce new music to people, after all.

The best new tune was 'The Problem' by Brotherman. It's solid, conscious UK hip hop, great lyrics combined with undeniable beats. It's taken from a great album that only missed out being in my best of 2008 list because I didn't hear it till January!

The best old tune was New Order's 'Confusion.' Yes, it's largely forgotten as it came out in the same year as the monster 'Blue Monday' but if you were there at the time, 'Confusion' was a huge, huge record. Prime Arthur Baker combined with New Order at their most free and experimental, the 12" remains a dance / indie / alternative classic. Search out this track the next time you see some NME haircut indie band prodding a MicroKorg listelssly over someone else's stolen chiptune...

    This is what you heard:

Late of the Pier - The Bears Are Coming
Division of Laura Lee - Anytime, Anywhere
    Sweatshop Union - Us
    The Perceptionists - Memorial Day
Braintax - The Beast Is Us
    Russian Circles - Harper Lewis
    Stump - Buffalo
    Goose - Black Gloves

    Black Elk - Hospital
Motion City Soundtrack - Fell in Love Without You
    Mr. Oizo - Positif
    Mystery Jets - Zootime
    Tech Itch - know
    Tokyo Police Club - Juno
    Brotherman - The Problem
Death Cab for Cutie - Long Division
The Red Chord - It runs in the family
Squarepusher - My Red Hot car
    Afro Classics - rap-fanatic
Pete and The Pirates - this thyme
    New Order - Confusion
Ugly Duckling - I Won't Let It Die
    Benga - go tell them
Promise Ring - The Deep South

  • Netlabel Christmas Music!

    Dez 8 2008, 1h32 por xwdishere

So, it's December, and that means it's cool to play Christmas music. So, here's some netlabels I like which have released Christmas-related compilations.
The 8bits of Christmas by a The 8bitpeoples. Includes all your favorite 8bitpeoples-related artists like Nullsleep and Bit Shifter. Okay, so only those two people are really on the team. But the rest are pretty cool. I mean, there's Goto80 and Vim!. Also that guy who made a synthesizer out of a dot matrix printer.
The X-Dump: The Droidbird Complement contains a bunch of what I assume to be Christmas-related songs but since they're all from Europe I don't know. But hey, it's got Psilodump and Paza and Dorothy's Magic Bag and a lot of funky beats.
Some Candy Before Christmas by Candymind is a bit calmer (if you don't count TocarAlaska). It includes Liquid Stranger as well as more Goto80 and Dorothy's Magic Bag
Christmasasaurus Vol. 2 by Candymind contains a HUGE amount of music (50 minutes!) from many of your (well, my) favorite 8bit artists, including Animal Style (who also did the artwork) and Temp Sound Solutions.
Phlogiston mentioned on II (link) that there was a "winter/snow/cold themed" compilation in the works. So keep an eye on them.
Edit: Sea of Ice. I know, it's a bit late to throw it on your MP3 player and go walking through the nearest snow-covered park at dusk, but there's next year. Maybe it during the summer to be ironic, maybe play Croqel during the winter.

  • Blipblop Mix

    Nov 7 2008, 15h52 por weejay

Listen to this mix here - http://lastnightadjkilledmydog.libsyn.com/index.php?post_id=398674

BlipBlop, otherwise known as Bitpop or Chiptunes (and quite possibly a number of other things) is a new type of music, but also a (slightly) old one. The idea is to make music using outdated consoles and computers. Bit Shifter, for example, composes entirely on the Nintendo Game Boy. Strict restrictions on creativity like this are counter-intuitive - the more you are handicapped, the more you think of clever ways to get around problems. Having said that, some of the tracks and artists here stray a fair bit from that idea. But you get the point.

    1. Anamanaguchi- Sting Operation
    2. Bit Shifter - TocarHexadecimal Genome
    3. Teamtendo - Philippines Volunteers
    4. Random - TocarSitges Savepoint
    5. Kid Carpet - Jump
    6. Boy vs. Bacteria - Get Naked (The Stomp)
    7. Paza - TocarCrazy Bird
    8. Slagsmålsklubben - Malmo Beach Night Party

  • 10 chiptune songs that are better than Sabrepulse or Bit Shifter

    Ago 13 2008, 22h58 por lukejonesyes

Don't get me wrong, I like Sabrepulse and Bit Shifter as much as the next chiptune fan (see how I discreetly added them as connections to get more people to read this), but I'm in a mood right now where I find their unashamedly joyful musical stylings unctuous and cheesy. Worse still, their popularity has spawned equally corny cookie-cutter acts in the 8-bit community. With this this list I want to prove that Gameboy-type music can be done differently.

DJ Scotch Egg - TocarScotch Kids (I would have put the moderately superior
TocarScotch Grime but it's not free, so it can die of AIDS quite frankly)
    Zan-zan-zawa-veia - TocarLest Thou
Aleksi Eeben - TocarGround Expansion (Or, if you have the patience, TocarThe Grand Rules.)
Mr. Spastic - TocarSpastic Break Fest
Germlin - Youth Pixxell (Featuring guest vocals from a certain Mr. Scotch Egg)
gay against you - TocarPrincess Diana Walkman
Role Model - Tocarpop5 (see Mr. Bit Shifter? You can do bitpop with subtlety.)
Coleco Music - TocarHoney, We Are Chatting
Crystal Castles - TocarAir War (Ignore the fact that they are popular amongst the indie/dance crowd, ignore the fact that they sampled a single thump on a drum machine from another artist's song and didn't attribute, just, and I know this is downright weird, but JUST LISTEN TO THE MUSIC, and stop letting such trivial matters interfere with your enjoyment of music, or anything else for that matter.)
YTCracker - TocarN.E.S. (There is a particular melody in this song which is brilliant. However, the large majority of 8-bit rap is terrible.)

Oh fuck it, two great ones from the offending bastards in the title:
    TocarHexadecimal Genome
    TocarPurple Haze

  • Let's try this one out

    Jul 19 2008, 10h04 por Serenichi

The idea is to go to the page of your number one artist, and follow the link of it's number one similar artist, then repeating that for this artist and so on, noting down each artist as you go. Do this until you've got to 50 artists. If you get any repeats, just go to the second similar artist or the nearest one that you haven't already had.

    Starting with
    1. Mindless Self Indulgence
    2. The Left Rights
    3. Retard-O-Bot
    4. Vyncent Flaw
    5. uncle outrage
    6. Richee (oh noes)
    7. Gonna Get Got
    8. The O
    9. Eat Babies? (had to go waaay down the list for that one)
    10. The Grape Kool-Aid Experience
    11. Electric Dragon
    12. 8-Bit Suicide
    13. SEXCOPTER RUL
    14. The Rip0phs
    15. Squish Squash Squad (who the fuck? From here on the artists get real weird)
    16. Ultra Cutez
    17. Bubblegum Octopus
    18. Peppermint Pony
    19. Nullsleep
    20. Sabastian Boaz
    21. Tangible
    22. Yuppster
    23. Commie64
    24. Twilight Electric
    25. Mesu Kasumai
    26. Minusbaby
    27. RUGAR
    28. Lo-Bat
    29. Snoopdroop
    30. Amor Antiquita
    31. Divag
    32. Factor6
    33. X-Agon
    34. Yerzmyey
    35. Paul Slocum
    36. Dma-Sc
    37. Hally
    38. Goto80
    39. Bit Shifter
    40. Role Model
    41. Oliver Wittchow
    42. Neotericz
    43. Receptors
    44. gwEm and Counter Reset
    45. Bubblyfish
    46. glomag
    47. Bacalao
    48. Firestarter
    49. Herbert Weixelbaum
    50. Covox

Man, so many loops at the beginning and end. I had to open up the full list to get the next new name for a few of them. I honestly thought I wouldn't hit 50.
