Fabulous. Listening to Bach is so rewarding.

1966 veröffentlichten Ike & Tina Turner Ihr Album River Deep, Mountain High. Eigentlich war es das erste Soloalbum von Tina Turner, den ihr Ehemann Ike hatte sich vertraglich bei Produzent Phil Spector verpflichten müssen das Studio nicht zu betreten. Das Album wurde mit großem Aufwand produziert und kostete die für damalige Verhältnisse unglaubliche Summe von 22.000 US-Dollar. Der Titelsong "River Deep, Mountain High" wurde komponiert von Phil Spector, Jeff Barry und Ellie Greenwich.

Trotz dieses Aufwands wurde das Lied in den USA ein Misserfolg. Zu dieser Zeit gab es in den USA noch die Rassentrennung und der Song wurde "als zu schwarz für das weiße Radio und zu weiß für das schwarze Radio" angesehen. So erreichte dieser geniale Song nur Platz 88 in den US Charts und zwang Phil Spector sein eigenes Studio zu schließen. In Großbritannien jedoch erreichte der Song Platz 3. Und sicherlich hätte er auch Platz 1 geschafft, wären nicht gleichzeitig Songs von den The Beatlesund The Kinks in den Charts gewesen. Phil Spector nannte den Song einmal das Beste was er je gemacht hat. Bedenkt man was ihn das Lied gekostet hat und welch große Erfolge er z.B. mit den Beatles hatte ist dies schon erstaunlich.

Tina Turner nahm den Song 1969 nochmals auf. Auch viele andere Künstler wie z.B. Deep Purple, Erasure und Céline Dion nahmen Coverversionen auf. Die erfolgreichste war ein Duett von den Supremes und The Four Tops die in den USA Platz 14 erreichte.

1931 wurde am Broadway das Musical "Everybody's Welcome" gespielt. In diesem Musical konnte man das erste mal das von Herman Hupfeld komponierte Lied "As Time Goes By" hören. Gesungen wurde es von Frances Williams. Leider wurde nie eine Aufnahme dieses Liedes mit diesem Sänger angefertigt. Im gleichen Jahr wurden aber Aufnahmen mit verschiedenen anderen Sängern getätigt. Unter anderem mit Rudy Vallée.

1942 erschien der Film "Casablanca" mit Humphrey Bogart und Ingrid Bergman. Noch heute kennt jeder den Spruch "Play it again, Sam" (Spiel es noch einmal Sam) den Bogart zum Klavierspieler sagte. Das Lied das er spielte war "As Time Goes By" und das Lied wurde ein Welthit. Leider gab es zu dieser Zeit einen Streik in der Musikszene und so wurde das Lied nie mit dem Klavierspieler Sam in Wirklichkeit Dooley Wilson auf Platte gepresst. Statt dessen nahm man die Aufnahme von Rudy Vallée. Die Aufnahme hier bei Last.fm ist also ein Mitschnitt aus dem Film.

Seit damals gab es viele Interpreten die das Lied aufgenommen haben. Eine schöne ist die von Bryan Ferry von 1999.

1964 veröffentlichte die kanadische Sängerin, indianischer Abstammung, Buffy Sainte-Marie auf ihrem Debütalbum It's My Way! den Song "Universal Soldier". Das Lied ist vermutlich der beste Antikriegssong der je geschrieben wurde. Doch ein Hit wurde das Lied erst als Donovan ihn 1965 auf einer EP mit dem Namen "Universal Soldier" veröffentlichte. Diese EP erreichte in Großbritannien Platz 5. Daraufhin wurde in den USA eine Single veröffentlicht, die es aber nur auf Platz 53 im vom Vietnamkrieg geprägten Amerika schaffte.

Scorpions - Wind Of Change

Ende der 8oer Jahre veränderte sich Europa. Die Kommunistischen Systeme brachen zusammen. Die Mauer in Berlin fiel und Deutschland wurde wiedervereinigt. Im Jahr 1989 besuchte die Gruppe Scorpions Moskau. Dieser Besuch und der Wandel dieser Jahre inspirierte Klaus Meine zu einer Ballade die zur Hymne dieses Wandels wurde "Wind of Change".

Das Lied erschien bereits 1990 auf dem Album Crazy World, aber erst 1991 stürmte es die Hitparaden in ganz Europa und auch der USA. In der Folge findet sich das Lied auf 3 weiteren Alben der Gruppe. 2000 nahmen sie eine Version mit den Berliner Philharmonikern auf. Auch eine russische und eine spanische Version des Liedes wurden von Scorpions aufgenommen.

1973 kam der Film "Pat Garrett and Billy The Kid" in die Kinos. Bob Dylan steuerte einen Song namens "Knockin' On Heaven's Door" zum Soundtrack dieses Films bei, der weltberühmt wurde. Der Song wurde unzählige male gecovert. Besonders erfolgreich war 1991 die Version von Guns N' Roses, die in den englischen Charts Platz 2 erreichte.

1996 erlaubte Bob Dylan nach dem Schulmassaker in Dunblane, Schottland, dem Dunblaner Musiker Ted Christopher eine weitere Zeile zu schreiben. Diese wurde mit Mark Knopfler an der Gitarre und Verwandten der Opfer aufgenommen. Diese Version erreichte Platz 1 in den englischen Charts, die Erlöse wurden an Kinderhilfswerke gespendet.

Since some People asked me why I'm listening to some kind of classical Music since some Weeks I'd like to write it down here.

It started as a friend of mine showed me a Book which includes a CD. It was a Book about the world famous Violinist Yehudi Menuhin from the US. I read the Book and listened to the CD, which includes Works of Ludwig van Beethoven, Max Bruch and Johannes Brahms. I heard it several times and started loving it more and more. So I deceided to buy the Book on my own. But not only this Book, also the next one. The Book about Yehudi Menuhin is only the first out of 20, called ZEIT Klassik Edition. This is a Collection of 20 Books and CD's which include some the world's most famous Composers and Musicians. The 2nd one was (and still is) the best of the whole Collection: A Record of the 2nd and 5th Symphony of Jean Sibelius, played by the Berliner Philharmoniker under the Direction of Herbert von Karajan.

The are still much more amazing Works in the Edition, for Example the 9th Symphony of Ludwig van Beethoven, the Symphonie fantastique of Hector Berlioz, the Four Seasons of Antonio Vivaldi or the 2nd Symphony of Anton Bruckner.

So, for everyone who's interested in listening to Classical Music (and exploring the most interesting Genre of Music) it's really worth buying these Books with CD's.
