Nascido na Califórnia, Ben Harper cresceu a ouvir blues, folk, soul, r&b e reggae. Aprendeu a tocar guitarra ainda criança e montou diversas bandas em sua adolescência, sempre influenciado por nomes como Blues Traveler, Hootie & the Blowfish e Phish.

Sua carreira profissional como artista solo começou em 1993 com “Welcome To The Cruel World”. Sempre seguindo um intervalo de dois anos, foram lançados “Fight For Your Mind” (1995), “The Will To Live” (1997) e “Burn To Shine” (1999).

Uma caixa especial intitulada “CD Box Collection”, contendo os 3 primeiros álbuns de Harper saiu em 2000 e, no ano seguinte, chega o duplo ao vivo “Live From Mars”. O disco foi dividido em um elétrico e outro mais acústico e traz os maiores ‘hits’ do músico como “Excuse Me Mr.”, “Steal My Kisses” e “Pleasure And Pain”.

Seu sexto trabalho é “Diamonds On The Inside” (2003). O álbum é uma mistura de heavy, funk e folk. Ao lado dele estão The Inocent Criminals, formado pelo baixista Juan Nelson, o percussionista Leon Lewis Mobley e o baterista Oliver Charles. Os destaques foram “With My Own Two Hands”, “Everything”, “Amen Omen”, além da própria faixa-título.

Em 2004 o californiano estava de volta com um novo trabalho “There Will be a light”. O disco que reúne 11 faixas conta com a participação do grupo gospel Blind Boys of Alabama, que deu ao álbum uma nova roupagem e trouxe elementos da música country, gospel e da soul music.

Morning Yearning! My favorite Harper. *** Drandomusic -- retailers don't pay artists. Those payment details are all arranged or taken care of before the products arrive at stores. Distribution is usually handled by wholesalers or direct distributors, and again, usually the artist has been paid or gets royalties on those early sales from their record labels. The artist is paid the same in all cases, depending on their arrangements and representation. Not saying all eBayers are selling new CDs, but many are. Most can do it by buying products with packaging flaws. :)

there are ebay stores which sell albums at lower rates because there are very little costs to running an ebay store, but when you break it down they are still legitimate business' and some of the money still goes to the artist/label
